With health care reform, when you go to the doctor you will not get a bill in the mail. If you or a member of your family is sick or injured, and have to go to the hospital, and have an operation, you will not receive a bill for the hospital stay, or even a doctors bill. And the premiums from a health insurance company won't even exist. And from what I understand there is no limit on what they can charge.

I went to a rally for H/C reform today, it was interesting because the audiance had more info about HR3200 then the people running the prg. The panel didn't answer any of the ? proposed to them about H/C. When we would give them specific pg# and detailed info of what was on that pg and how it would effect us, they told us to shut up and leave. After the rally we were asked where to go on the web for info. The org of this rally were caught off guard with all of the details the audiance had. .

Over all the citizens in the US are less satisfied with their health care than any other developed country with the exception of Italy.. it must really suck there.. Also doctors in this country spend less time with their patients than they do in any other developed country. Imagine that yet they get paid more. If you and your neighbor both bought the same car but you paid twice as much but yours ran worse wouldn't you be pissed? That is what out healthcare system is like now.
Other than South Africa, America is the only developed country in the world that does not provide health care for all of it's citizens. Yet the US ranks 26th in infant mortality and 24th in the number of healthy years a person can expect to live - putting Americans healthcare system in the company of Cuba and Slovenia rather than Canada and Western European nations.

I raised reaganomics as an issue to counter the idea that we don't need to raise taxes. We do, Historically, our lower taxes to get more money (get something for nothing) plan have failed. But the US government can't just say to the banks "we are not paying you back for the 10 trillions we owe you." this burden was passed down from the last generation. what we can do is not pass it to the next generation.

Agreed corporations can do ethically horrible things & how there can be any justification for a 10, 20, 30, 40 million dollarparachute for a CEO who has run a company into financial ruin is beyond me. I think learning from the recent past there needs to be regulatory measures taken (which I wouldn't have thought before) but profit is needed to make a company viable money for R&D, investment opportunity, expansion & growth. It's not totally evil but there needs to be ethical limits.

I would like to see how you define failure. I see 10 trillion dollar in national debt as failure. This is a direct result of Reagenomics. Our post war national debt was lowering before reagan, he decided to cut taxes without decrease in spending. Our national debt has been growing since. that is failure. So now this generation has to pay for it. and the only way to do it is increase and taxes and cut spending. Everyone want to pay lower taxes, but money does not fall off trees.

Obama's plan is complicated, and many details needs to be finalized, but the implication of doing nothing is not no cost. you have to take both into account and figure out which one is better. if you do, you will see that Reform is better.
Consider... if you have health insurance at the moment, and you're not satisfied with the coverage provided, you have the option of changing carriers.
Once the Gov takes over H.C. & removes competition for insurance companies, they will eliminate them.
Then the Government monopoly begins.. you'll no longer be able to tell the government that you don't want their coverage or to pay taxes for this and discontinue your policy if you're not happy!
That logic makes no sense. While i believe the government should do that. that is not what Obama is proposing. He is proposing that the government compete with the insurance company. One more choice. If you are in favor of more choice, you should support the H.C Reform.

While it is indeed true that Obama has taken the first step as you described it, but the rest is pure speculation. Obama has made many public announcements on the fact that he does not want to own GM, He had no other Choice but to buy GM. I am not pleased about the government getting in to GM either, although for different reason.
Then...since Ford cant compete with obamer Motors, theyll go out of business! Meanwhile, taxes skyrocket and the taxpayers will be footing the bill for G.M. forever more whether they like it or not.
And... since obamer Motors had removed competition in the field now, theyll now hold the monopoly on the poor and middle class since theyll not be able to afford the price of the remaining companies like Mercedes, BMW, etc..

At that time GM was on the edge of liquidation. What the means is the company was about to disappear. We are talking a major industry, Million of Job effected. GM BEGGED the government to step in, many times.
I agree with you that this should not happen. However consequence of not stepping in was too high on the American people. We can prevent this from happening in the future, making new rules so that companies don't get too big to fail. So that the companies can't hold us hostage.

I recall GM was in bad shape even if they had liquidated they would sold off entities in a fire sale which would have saved a lot of jobs. Oh I agree completely, I don't like the bail out, but i understand it. this is because i do not agree with the statment that GM would have been baught up quickly. Almost no jobs survives liquidaton. think of it like a garage sale. The bankruptcy they went into is to protect them from creditors, very differenet from liquidation.

Interesting argument, however, it seems to me that this "MUST MEET" is trying to prevent employers from only buying substandard health care for employees. While this does reduce the number of choices, i argue that this is not a bad thing. Just like Health Code regulations Limits your right to buy substandard food by say all food "MUST MEET" certain requirement. But i think you will agree that this kind of limitation has a place in society.
First, you understand and agree that there should be minimum standards for food. The excerpt you quoted simply apply a minimum standard for health care. That Bar might be set at "Catastrophic" coverage only. We don't know.
Second, the excerpt you quoted applies to company plans only. The government don't want companies to buy really bad H.C. As an individual, you can still buy "substandard" H.C from a private company. At least the excerpt does not limit that.

I don't know what makes you think I have total trust in the Government. I don't. It is my understanding that unless they come up with a way to make this deficit free it will not be signed. I live in the UK where every citizens health care needs are provided for. If I or any loved ones get ill and needs to see a doctor or go to hospital, we don't worry about how we are going to pay for it, its already covered in our taxes (which are not that high!). Surely the very least we should expect from our elected government is protection and care for the most vulnerable of our society?Good luck Americans, I hope you all realise healthcare is not a business, it's a basic human right.

Is it possible that there is a special arrangement between the insurance company and Claudia's company. Insurance company may be willing to pay Claudia's company to fire Claudia. Is it a win-win situation for both Claudia's company and the insurance company? This scheme could save the insurance company a lot of money!!!

Where do these people get the idea that the government should not care about what the people is going through, or should not be involved in people's lives. The purpose of the government should be to take care of it's people. Hands off approach is irresponsible. The government should be doing the best it can to protect the welfare of it's people.

I would suggest you talk to someone who has a heart condition, cancer, kidney problems or has kids and ask them what it cost.
How you have to think very carefully about whether to go to the doctor or hospital; To buy food or medication that is needed.
America has the best health care in the world until you get sick.
I would ask all those against the reforms to go to their health providers and ask them the level of cover they would get if they suddenly became ill and needed urgent care?

With health care reform, when you go to the doctor you will not get a bill in the mail. If you or a member of your family is sick or injured, and have to go to the hospital, and have an operation, you will not receive a bill for the hospital stay, or even a doctors bill. And the premiums from a health insurance company won't even exist. And from what I understand there is no limit on what they can charge.

I went to a rally for H/C reform today, it was interesting because the audiance had more info about HR3200 then the people running the prg. The panel didn't answer any of the ? proposed to them about H/C. When we would give them specific pg# and detailed info of what was on that pg and how it would effect us, they told us to shut up and leave. After the rally we were asked where to go on the web for info. The org of this rally were caught off guard with all of the details the audiance had. .

Well I would not define myself in the same light as I believe the best way to run a country is to promote individualality. I would definitely argue that not a whole lot of what he's done has made sense (to me that is) his ideals definitely collide with each other. I'm want the government to get off my back & let me prosper. I will help people when it's needed but I have expectations of them to take personal responsibility. They need to breed a generation of individuals not dependance.

However, social research have shown that in United States, the biggest determining factor of personal income is the wealth of your family. There are rules in place that help people already. While everyones path to success is different some harder than others it does not mean the system is broken. You can't legilate someone to take opportunity that is a choice from within. I'm not saying there can't be help but all we a doing is furthering the complacency of the US. In the United States, more than any other developed nation, your family wealth is the greatest determining factor of your future income. this means that statistically speaking, individual merit is not as important as what family you're born into when determining future incomes in the United States. This is not what the founding father has envisioned. I consider this to be broken.

It's just food for thought. I would argue (with admittedly no facts) there has always been a portion of the population that has lagged behind the difference being now we people who study the percentages. All I'm saying is you can't force people to prosper if they are satisfied they may complain about not having enough but that is all they will do. They will do nothing else to improve their situation just complain that is the definition of the easy road & shouldn't warrant advancement.

Whats next Universal Appliance Warranty (UAW). My HDTV is broke and I don't have the money to fixed it, I was just fired to pay for the new healthcare taxes. My neighbors won't let me watch their HDTV, and it isn't fair that they have one and I don't. Gov't should make them pay for my warranty so I can fix my HDTV. Please, Mr. Obama, fix this HDTV problem! Tax everyone with a HDTV so 47 million can have one. Why only the rich have access to working HDTVs?

This is exactly where we are going, I want my rent/ mortgage paid, give me more money, My husband and I have worked all our lives to have what we have, No one handed us a pile of money and said you have done enough, We both work 6 days a week to make ends meet. Our kids are all adults now and support themselves. But when the government starts handing out those HDTV's and takes everything you make in return you will get it. Great post Dkkght46.

If we don't do anything our country will definitely be bankrupt in a matter of about 15 years.. which they know and have known for about 60 years which is one of the major reasons why they are trying to get something done. So they calll thia a public option but I will bet the farm that within10 years we will be on a single payer system & within that same time frame we will have federal tax increases to subsidize the health care system as all of the great countries with single payer systems have. That is Obamas prefference. I'm just asking what makes you look @ any model of government & say "let's give it to them". Definitly a slippery slope.

The slippery slop argument is not a rational argument. It can be applied to anything to make it seem messed up. 10 years later is 2 more election. There is no way Obama would be president then. Over all the citizens in the US are less satisfied with their health care than any other developed country with the exception of Italy.. it must really suck there.. Also doctors in this country spend less time with their patients than they do in any other developed country. Imagine that yet they get paid more. If you and your neighbor both bought the same car but you paid twice as much but yours ran worse wouldn't you be pissed? That is what out healthcare system is like now.

Other than South Africa, America is the only developed country in the world that does not provide health care for all of it's citizens. Yet the US ranks 26th in infant mortality and 24th in the number of healthy years a person can expect to live - putting Americans healthcare system in the company of Cuba and Slovenia rather than Canada and Western European nations.

All they've done over the years is raise taxes & run the country into a perpetual deficit now they want to add more & tell you well they'll pay for it. Why the trust? Look the whole basis for Obamas reform is to make health care "affordable" for all. There are ways to do this without handing it to the FED. You look @ the government in a tainted light. They don't have "capital" all they have is tax revenue either from business or personal tax & the only ways to increase the revenue is to raise taxes or increase the volume of tax payers. This administration has not done a thing to successfully stimulate growth in volume of taxpayers only grow government ie increase spending ie increase the volume of revenue needed on the same amount of taxpayers (actually even less taxpayers). There are many who makes that point. The first who proposed it is president Reagan. the idea is that by lowering taxes, it increases jobs and ultimately increase tax revenue.
However history has shown that it does not work. The national Debt has consistently climbed starting from Reagan, stop for a little Clinton, then sky rocketed under Bush tax cuts. It did nor achieve what is was set out to do. Reaganomics don't work, and the debt can't keep raising, we need to increase taxes.

I raised reaganomics as an issue to counter the idea that we don't need to raise taxes. We do, Historically, our lower taxes to get more money (get something for nothing) plan have failed. But the US government can't just say to the banks "we are not paying you back for the 10 trillions we owe you." this burden was passed down from the last generation. what we can do is not pass it to the next generation.

Even by your own definition of reagonimics it brought more money into the treasury by creating a bigger volume of tax payers ie creating more jobs. How is that not better than raising personal income tax? More tax revenue & a healthier economy with unemployment being lower. Once again it's not the "plan" that failed us it is the politicians. Agreed corporations can do ethically horrible things & how there can be any justification for a 10, 20, 30, 40 million dollarparachute for a CEO who has run a company into financial ruin is beyond me. I think learning from the recent past there needs to be regulatory measures taken (which I wouldn't have thought before) but profit is needed to make a company viable money for R&D, investment opportunity, expansion & growth. It's not totally evil but there needs to be ethical limits.

Cutting taxes doesn't work? Tell me when raising taxes has helped the economy? Carter tried it.. massive failure! Now Clinton was far better at tax cuts and reducing the government somewhat and focusing on the deficit. Bush's fault is that he followed the Democrats ideals and fell into the trap of government programs and spending. But ALL have NOTHING on obamer! obamer, if he had his way, would gladly turn the U.S.A. into a socialistic country!

I would like to see how you define failure. I see 10 trillion dollar in national debt as failure. This is a direct result of Reagenomics. Our post war national debt was lowering before reagan, he decided to cut taxes without decrease in spending. Our national debt has been growing since. that is failure. So now this generation has to pay for it. and the only way to do it is increase and taxes and cut spending. Everyone want to pay lower taxes, but money does not fall off trees.

And so far, the government, with the exception of the Military, has run every social program into the ground. Social Security is bankrupt, Medicare & Medicaid massive failures, and the list goes on!

yeah but you are not looking at how much health care and medicaid will cost now. As the baby boom reach retirement, health care is expected to sky rocket. I really don't know why you arbitrarily believe the situation we are in right now is ok. Obama's plan is complicated, and many details needs to be finalized, but the implication of doing nothing is not no cost. you have to take both into account and figure out which one is better. if you do, you will see that Reform is better.

Consider... if you have health insurance at the moment, and you're not satisfied with the coverage provided, you have the option of changing carriers.
Once the Gov takes over H.C. & removes competition for insurance companies, they will eliminate them.
Then the Government monopoly begins.. you'll no longer be able to tell the government that you don't want their coverage or to pay taxes for this and discontinue your policy if you're not happy!
Why do you support obamer's policies?

That logic makes no sense. While i believe the government should do that. that is not what Obama is proposing. He is proposing that the government compete with the insurance company. One more choice. If you are in favor of more choice, you should support the H.C Reform.
of course you can make the slippery arguement that this is the start of a government monopoly. But the slippery slop argument is not a logical argument. sure people use it a lot, but that dos not make it logical.

Here's some logic for you that may help...
on the H.C. proposal...... and I'll use G.M. as an example.
obamer's taken over G.M. and now dictates how the company will make cars and trucks. (youll wait months to get one!)
Then obamer lowers the cost of cars at G.M. BUT uses taxpayer money to lower the costs and run the business. Meanwhile to compete, Ford will only be able lower their costs so much until they can no longer make a profit.

While it is indeed true that Obama has taken the first step as you described it, but the rest is pure speculation. Obama has made many public announcements on the fact that he does not want to own GM, He had no other Choice but to buy GM. I am not pleased about the government getting in to GM either, although for different reason.

And... since obamer Motors had removed competition in the field now, theyll now hold the monopoly on the poor and middle class since theyll not be able to afford the price of the remaining companies like Mercedes, BMW, etc..

At that time GM was on the edge of liquidation. What the means is the company was about to disappear. We are talking a major industry, Million of Job effected. GM BEGGED the government to step in, many times.
I agree with you that this should not happen. However consequence of not stepping in was too high on the American people. We can prevent this from happening in the future, making new rules so that companies don't get too big to fail. So that the companies can't hold us hostage.

I've been kinda watching this conversation & couldn't help but interject. I recall GM was in bad shape even if they had liquidated they would sold off entities in a fire sale which would have saved a lot of jobs. Everyone (me included)against bailing them out was saying don't do it because they are going to claim bankruptcy anyway & I not saying I'm always right but about that I was. Dumping Billions of taxpayer dollars down a hole to try & avoid the inevitable. Just some food for thought.

I don't understand how hand picking who survives if fair & equal treatment for all Americans there were all kinds of buisness suffering struggling & going out of buisness due to the economy all jobs lost but for some reason GM was hand picked. I'm just trying to shed some light on the argument that this was all a "pay back for the unions". I Must go have lots of work to do & a lot of grown adults to pay for. Just a joke take it easy.

Oh I agree completely, I don't like the bail out, but i understand it. this is because i do not agree with the statment that GM would have been baught up quickly. Almost no jobs survives liquidaton. think of it like a garage sale. The bankruptcy they went into is to protect them from creditors, very differenet from liquidation.
There is one way to avoid this in the futrue, better comptition laws so ono one becomes too large to fail. that way we would not need to bail them out.

Interesting argument, however, it seems to me that this "MUST MEET" is trying to prevent employers from only buying substandard health care for employees. While this does reduce the number of choices, i argue that this is not a bad thing. Just like Health Code regulations Limits your right to buy substandard food by say all food "MUST MEET" certain requirement. But i think you will agree that this kind of limitation has a place in society.

Under the obamer plan, if I want "catastrophic" ins. coverage only, the obamer plan will NOT let me do this!
If I CHOOSE to save money like this, under the obamer plan, I'll have to pay a premium if I like it or not!
And under the USDA, it regulates companies, especially foreign ones from attempts to sell the public sub-standard food & products.
But, we're not FORCED to buy our food from the Gov, we simply get the basic safeguards!

First, you understand and agree that there should be minimum standards for food. The excerpt you quoted simply apply a minimum standard for health care. That Bar might be set at "Catastrophic" coverage only. We don't know.
Second, the excerpt you quoted applies to company plans only. The government don't want companies to buy really bad H.C. As an individual, you can still buy "substandard" H.C from a private company. At least the excerpt does not limit that.

I don't know what makes you think I have total trust in the Government. I don't. It is my understanding that unless they come up with a way to make this deficit free it will not be signed. It is also my understanding that until they have figured out all of the financial aspects of the bill which is the main part they are waiting on.. nothing will be signed. Nobody knows what that is going to be just yet and people are just jumping to conclusions. I have more of a wait and see attitude.

This is largely due to administrative costs which account for 19-25% of healthcare costs, and up to 34% at for-profit hospitals. We have the best specialist and technology but out failed profit driven system is ranked at a low 37 on a world scale.

The reason our healthcare costs are high is due to Frivolous Lawsuits. If we would not allow scum bag lawyers like John Edwards to get rediculous amounts of money for finding flaws with our doctors. The doctor needs to preform unnessesary tests just to CYA. Smartass, you can make up numbers all day long and if you don't show where they came from they are just numbers.

Yes, expensive due to many of the government regulations that force the health care industry into following what the government wants. Examples are Medicaid & Medicare run by the government. Complete disasters and you want the same thing but on a National level?
Other countries may offer FREE H.C., but their high taxes go to prove that they pay dearly for it!

A Staggering 47 Millions are Uninsured!! This is due to the rising unemployment, cost and also pre-existing medical conditions which make them unable to be insured.

I don't make a habit of watching how other people spend their money so I wouldn't know.. but I can say that all of the people I have known who have had to file only did so as a last result they were very worried about their credit scores so doing that was the last thing they wanted to do. You must be surrounded by idiots. You obviously have no clue as to how expensive medications are.. I was on one once that was 750.00 a month.

if you see Fox as "fair and balanced" I can see how you think abc is running an infomercial. but that is besides the point. the right has Fox, Left has MSNBC, both national networks, both very powerful. There is a balance here.
What i am pointing to the contrast between how Obama respects open and free speech, he CHOOSES to leave the comment section open. At the same time Republican posts (many of them) CHOOSE to only allow prescreened comments. From this, we can see which side is open to debate

When the CBO numbers were opposed to the Democrats proposed plan's numbers, they discounted them and discouraged these numbers from getting out into the public.
The 787 billion dollar stimulus was passed SO fast that the general public had NO chance to see what was in this bill let alone those in Congress not having any chance to even read the bill.

you see that does not make any sense. The first part of stimulus was passed by Bush. Obama continued it. You can attack the stimulus, I attack the stimulus. This is not really a partisan issue since both side allowed it.

I feel welfair is for emergency help. Not 2, and 3rd generation income. My husband and I worked very hard to raise my children.

This is only the beginning.. should obamer have his way and our taxes skyrocket, so much of our personal income will become the property of obamer! Currently we work until April 13th to pay for our taxes.
{(In 2000, Bill Clinton left us paying up to May 3rd for our taxes (33.60%) and Bush reduced that to April 13th (28.30%)}
Under obamer & should his massive government intrusion into our lives follow other countries, we'll be well into July in 2012 to pay for our taxes!
