Yes the Hymeks had a larger power unit to the ones that are in the Westerns. 1 16 cylinder Maybach MD 675 instead of 2 Maybach MD 650's in the Western's.

This big Maybach is called MD 870 (nowadays MTU MD 16 V 538 TB). It was used in the german Prototype- Diesels V 160 (216.0) and V 169 (219 001- 5) of the early sixties with 1900 and 2200 hp. The Hymek- engines are licence products by bristol-siddeley with an output of 1700 hp. The Western Maybachs are MD 655s with 1350 hp each due to their intercoolers. Great engines, nice locos, cool vid !
