Wow! Awesome! As a diver/snorkeller/kayaker/nature nut, who lives in York County PA, I should know more about these critters. I am researching them for an educational art project for a local county park, and this gives great insight into a critter that deserves more public education and notice. The videos show much more of their true character and grace than still pics (which often make them look slimy and lumpy). Keep filming!
Thank you so much for posting this. As a life-long resident of the West, it's been a dream since I was 6 to see one of these in the wild....yeah, I DO have better hobbies, but amphibians are magical animals! Thanks again.
Beautiful video accompanied with music that fits the spirit of things. FYI: As a matter of interest, hellbenders are also found in the Blue River of Southern Indiana.
hahahaha, finally found out what they are! I saw one of these things in my backyard and i live in front of a small pond. I ran away thinking it was a komodo. I am reading an article about them right now and it says they are endangered
Nice video! My friend is in an environmental organization that just came out with a film about hellbenders. I think its called "In Search of the Hellbender". He showed me a preview they made for it. It looks like it should be pretty good. I think they might have put it on youtube...
the hellbender is my favorite animal in the world. i'm only 16 but with the Great Smoky mountains institute at tremont i've worked with them a bit. I just love them and i'm sad to see them disapearing.
These are incredible animals. I'm currently working with hellbenders in the allegheny river. There numbers are dropping around the country. A three day seach for them turned up only 10 in what I was told is one of the largest habitat areas in that river. Thanks for the great video.
Awesome footage of these monstrous amphibians. Currently writing a term paper on C. alleganiensis for Herpetology :)

You obviously put a lot of time into this, great job!
I especially like the shot from above of the hellbender walking along the river bottom, with the leaves drifting past.

A fine tribute to an under-appreciated animal. I enjoyed parts II and III as well! Keep up the good work.
