I was at JWA/ SNA just a while ago and Virgin America was nowhere to be seen. Did they quit this route already?
Apparently Virgin America couldn't handle the competition from Southwest and United. All those inflight and publicity gimmicks are useless if the airline cannot sustain themselves against direct competitors.

Don't forget his signature company, Virgin Atlantic, is 49% owned by Singapore Airlines. Genuinely successful airlines do not need foreign backing.
