@SailorEevee It's a metaphor since a "bad apple" is someone who meant good but became rotten due to the events around them. It's a great translation though, and I love how they Cristina Vee was able to keep the meaning and the melody when she translated it, which is probably the hardest thing to do in the realm of music.
