I put another layer on top and changed the Blending Option of that Layer into "Overlay" or "Soft Light" and painted colors on that layer.

Both versions are pretty good and get the job done. You'll only really notice differences in features if you're an avid photoshop user :)

CS2 is cheaper, assuming that you can still find someone who sells it but its still as good as CS3.

Ah, most of the time I work around 200-300 dpi on a 8.5x11 sized canvass. This was done at 200dpi since I don't think I'll be printing this out. It varies, really.

Hi ^^

Well.. this is one of few paintings I've seen that doesn't let me say a word.. it's simply beautiful. Lines, shapes and colours, grew up step by step. I notice it's quite better start with simple lines and going refining them instead of drawing cute lineart and colour it only at the end.

Moreover, smooth colouring results in a more real painting, and you achieved it so much ^^

One more thing, I noticed you're using a custom brush, was it done by you? I wish to know something about it ^^

Thank you for the kind words ^_^ I do enjoy drawing roughly at first then refining them little by little. As for the brush, believe it or not, its just one of the default "chalk" brushes that photoshop has. I just turned the pressure sensitivity on and tweaked the settings just a tad bit. It gives you a textured look but it can also smoothen and smudge the colors pretty well :)
