Right on. Big fan of your playing on those First two Kim albums (and the EP). Your riffing at the end of 'Chain of Events' kicks butt. What are some of your fave performances on those releases?
NOT trying to stir up dust (at all), but can I ask why you left? Do you still speak with Kim? He always has fantastic drummers.
I heard you taught drums somewhere in the GTA. True?
Sorry for all the questions and my ramblings, man. However, I am a huge Kim Mitchell fan.
No problem, and thanks for all the kind words. I loved playing in that band until Kim hired a producer that didn't like my playing and said I wasn't a rock drummer! So all of a sudden I was out of a gig. That was 22 years ago though and it actually turned out to be a good thing, because my career really opened up after that. Very painful at the time though. Kim and I are are good now though so all is cool.
I teach privately a bit and at Humber College part time.
That stinks about the producer casting you off like that. Not cool. Your playing added a lot to those releases. I suppose Kim was in a tough position, eh?
I'm glad you and Kim are on good terms. He seems like a genuine and nice fellow.
I actually graduated from Humber with my journalism diploma, in '93. Good school.
@greatgs52 Paul, your Purdie Shuffle on All We Are was scary good - the whole arrangement, performance and production of that tune was just so good, it's actually a bit intimidating - Kim really had lightening in a bottle with that band: one of the best things ever to come out of Canada.
Who knows ... maybe Toto got scared & paid the producer off?
As well, although I am NOT a drummer, I very much enjoy great playing behind the kit, and I like to think I know a little something about the instrument. Guys like you would likely laugh at what it is I think I know, of course (ha, ha).
hey paul. how are you? glad to see you still banging. can you believe i still practice with that stick control book? been a while since we played on the same stage together.
Paul DeLong performs with Dominic Troicano and David Blamires.
