  • I'm wondering what make & model you're playing on

  • dude, thats awesome...

A lot of people don't realize what the mando is capable of; I prefer bluegrass, but have played impromptu jam sessions with a local punk band a few years back...

amazing playing man! Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful, just get my mando like a week ago. This gives m e something to work on. Totally stealing some licks with from this that'll sound great once I get my speed and rythm up to snuff.

    Thanks, man.

  • Trully amazing!!!

  • perfecto...

  • This spoke to my soul! I totally want to learn to play the mandolin now. Thank you for sharing.

  • Those pulloff slides down are really nice. Especially picking almost INSIDE the slide, not after fretting. It really gives you a POP on that note that gives the mando a ballsy tone.

Really a good vid that I watched over and over. I wish I could make out like a bandit here, but I will likely not be stealing too many of your licks. Bwwaaaaaah.

  • WOW!!!!! :O

    damn!i have to practice...

how much time do you start mandoline ?

    Great playing there, buddy!

  • I'm a guitarist, so I can't figure out how that is possible on such a small neck. I'm amazed! What's the trick to nailing all those notes on such a small scale?????

  • My most favourite Mandolin solo ever I wanna play like this.

  • like Sea-Sick Steve on a Mandolin!!!

  • 02:32 !! PRO !!

  • The guitar influences really sound sweet man. Wicked playing.

  • Ah..cool!

  • its got a very herb ellis-ish jazz blues touch. very nice.

  • That is an awsome sounding mandolin, I'm sure the man playing it has something to do with it too, but man sweet sound!!!!!! What kind of mandolin is it??????

    peace,,,,,,

  • That's some sweet playing, man. Nice.

  • Smoooooth playing! Sounds great :)

  • Sounds terrific, I'm impressed. I like how there's somehow the suggestion of comping and percussion, between the tapping leg and the picksound. I used to live in Bloomington, back in college days, that's a wonderful place to be making music. Remember the Dorkestra? Oh, and hi Neal! I'd love to bring this guy up to Kavarna sometime.

  • if you could keep that little part you had going at

2:17 it would be an awsome song

  • Yeah - I wish I could get a look at the headstock - It probably wouldn't tell me much though.

  • It resembles a Dudenbostel built for a friend in the midwest - binding, fretboard inlays ...

  • You are awsome! Can you tell us what kind of Mandolin you have. I just love the tone...Memphis Blues Man

  • Wow, I've never heard playing in that style before, bravo! I'd be curious to hear what some more variation in the loudness and softness of playing would do for the effect.

  • Thanks for your comment. Considering it's a swing, it's going to be pretty much balls to the wall the whole time. Check out some of the slow blues videos I have to see the use of dynamics.

  • Hey, I hear lots of dynamics in there considering the style. Oh this is just righteous!! I love it! I want to take me little bowlback, Melvin, there someday but alas, I only have time to use him as a composing tool. Thanks Jim, for this inspiring performance. You rock!

  • Wow that was excellent. Wish I could play like that.

  • awsome. Im a mandolin student. ive played guitar forever but i have not picked my guitar up since i bought my mandolin. And i love this blues run!!!!

  • ow man..even with the bluegraas trouwsers on.....fkn A!!

  • Niiice.........sweet....good job!

  • what kind of mandolin is that nice tones.?????

  • your very good at blues style playing... wish i could do blues style, looks like so much fun! ah well, im happy with my bluegrass

  • Very nice playing.

  • your mandolin is awesome, same goes for your playing

  • wow, really impresive

  • you're awesome! haha i suck at mandolin...and its like my culture's most popular instrument

  • great stuff!

  • Ukelele generally has 4 strings and is tuned sort of like the top 4 strings of a guitar.

Mandolin is 8 strings (4 pairs of unison strings) tuned in 5ths, like a violin. In fact the mandolin could be considered a cousin of the violin family.

Ukelele is generally nylon stringed. Mandolin is usually steel stringed. Bracing and top construction is different with mandolin being louder and projecting more, as well as having a different tone.

  • It's a mandolin. Pretty big difference. Construction, tone, tuning--all different. Do a Wikipedia search to review the differences. Good question

  • Yes. Only one word... Yes...

  • okay, this is great. Really great, youv'e got the touch. I'll pick up some inspiration here..

  • Dude, that is amazing. Nice playin.

  • i love it! what kind of mandolin is that?

  • Total sweetness!

  • That was fantastic!

  • Damn Good!

  • Sounds great! Hey, do you happen to know any madrigals? I'd love to hear some.

  • wow! Great swing on a mandolin

  • he keeps himself quite well amused! & i sure love them mandoblues!!

  • great pickin! it would sound fantastic on fiddle to if you transferred it across!

  • WHOA!!Now I have never played anything like that before. It is on my list Iam gonna use this video to start, loved it,I love the blues, its time I widen my playin horizons!

  • Good stuff!

  • Nice pickin Jim!
