  • Awesome footage, great themes!

    Good job!

  • We took the Zephyr to Chicago then hopped on the Cardinal to Baltimore. It was a round trip in first class bedrooms. I've uploaded vids if you want to take a look. Thanks for a great video!

  • This is basically the se footage from the first vid.

  • Have taken Amtrak #5 & 6 several times and plan on it again. What an enjoyable and relaxing way to see the country.

  • I was an Amtrak Engineer for 15 years. The F40PH was the very best, EMD Passenger Locomotive, ever produced, in the United States. It is without question....

  • @Robertrosemarynicole I can say I remember the F40's they could use the hell out of those I remember 15-16 Car 5/25/35 Supertrains (This is when they had like 15-20 Cars at least) and they'd only need 3 of them. Wonder how many P42's they'd need....

  • Can someone please explain why American train drivers sound their horn like that?

  • AH! Timtrain now owes me 20 bucks! Amtrak STILL uses F40PH's.

  • I'll Take A Cross Country Train Trip..Anyday Before I Ever Take An Airplaine.

  • Love those F40s

  • OMG GREAT VIDEO! :) but tell me : WHAT IS IN THOSE FREIGHT CARS near the 2 locomotives?! Greetings from Serbia! :)

  • Those freight cars behind the F40s are the Amtrak Express Reefers. Those were used for carrying mail and express packages. Amtrak has abandond it's Express bussiness now.

  • Dude! Is that engineer wearing PINK pants?

  • Without a doubt, the very best video of the F40's being paced, anywhere....In the middle of the pace, listen to the tail end of the lounge, passing over those frogs at 79mph....Totally Incredible!!!! WORD!!!!

  • The California Zephyr does NOT go to Oakland. that is 10 miles from Emeryville.

  • @howardkevinm it used to

  • @1985MANAmericana well it used to use the old southern pacific tracks through nevada and california, but now it uses the western pacifics old tracks. i do know that the train travels a good distance on the transcontinental line. (well its location actually).

  • i have never seen a california zepher phase 3

  • Amtraks f40s are the best.

  • ah brings back the memories

  • this is so cool. The MHC's on the head end, something you dont see anymore on the Amtrak trains. Just hope that they bring the mail and frieght service back to Amtrak and the money pot was there for Amtrak. I got 5 of them (HO scale-Kato versions). One time, i remember seeing up to 13 of the MHC cars on a EB train speeding thru Morton Grove, Illinois.

  • @BNforever2009 when was this?

was it on the Empire Builder or just a fast mail train?

  • Amtark put ditchlights on their f40s in their last years

  • The very best video of Amtrak F40's, being paced, anywhere....

  • I have this video.

  • with no ditch lights on Amtrak's F40's how did the engineers see the track ahead at night ?

  • i remember when i took this from naperville to colorado.

  • WOW great video! Nice shots of Burlington and Ottumwa! 5*****

  • What year was this video shot?

  • I miss PHIII

  • @invaderzim222 heak I miss F40s

  • BTW: Since you have video here of Amtrak's old equiptment you should do like a re-make or something with Amtrak's new equiptment like P42's.

  • This is literly about as hard core as you can get!!! I have ridden this train several times round trip between Reno, Nevada and Chicago, Illinois

  • This has to be of the best F40 videos I've seen on Youtube!

  • Great video! What is that? phase lll paint scheme though?

  • Nice video 5* :)
