@lyfe24seven you have 10 kids by 7 different women...you haven't worked in over 2 years and live off a woman who is so blinded by your bullshit. you are a lost soul and i hope and pray you can one day be a good father to all your children
@lyfe24seven you should listen to this song! how you have kids and not take care of them? you are a poor excuse for a human being!!!...you give black men REAL BLACK MEN a bad name. Its boys like you who give other races a reason to point fingers and think all black men are dead beat fathers.
Love love love this song!! wheres the RESPECT? if you get a woman pregnant at least show respect for YOUR child and show up to the birth. men and women need to accept the fact that you DONT have to be in a relationship to be a mother or father to your child. child support is NOT the end all be all!! its kids hurting out here just because they want TIME with their mom or dad, they dont care about money
NOW THAT THIS IS OFFICIALLY 20 YEARS OLD. ED OG NEEDS TO REMAKE THIS SONG WIT A CAT LIKE NAS OR COMMON, BUT HE ALSO NEEDS TO RAISE THE ISSUE OF THESE WOMEN BEING MOTHERS TO THIER CHILDREN AS WELL. ALL OF YA'LL BE MOTHERS AND FATHERS TO YOUR CHILDREN,NOT SPERM DONOR, DEAD BEARS AND HOODRAT CHECK COLLECTOR, BABY DISPENSERS. AND THAT'S REAL!
Real talk, My daughters mom is the opposite of what this video portrays. She wanted to stay single and keep her options open so she could date and have sex with whomever she wanted. Her dad was a dick and she thought my daughter would grow up unhappy just like she did but in reality her choices caused my daughter to be unhappy. I was there from day one and she knew i would go whole ass for my daughter.weak selfish check seeking bitches need sterilization procedure! fuck oklahoma D.H.S.
This song hit home immediately because of how I grew up. My father wasn't in my life like I wanted him 2. And if he was, there was always some condition. Or my mother was always having 2 hunt this niguh down so she could take him 2 court & make him pay child support. He was always playin games, and never seemed like he really cared. I stayed @ odds with him off @ on through out my childhood. I'm 35 yrs old and 2 this day I still don't have a stable relationship with him. !!!!!!!!
Man the saxophone is killing it, I can't believe you don't hear large scales done in saxophone anymore in hip hop today. Music is now all electronic and boring. Instrumentals is where it will always be at, second only to lyrical ability and third to beats.
Insha Allah (Allah Willing) this song/video by ED OG & The Bulldogs, is gonna be my theme music when my movie goes into production. This message is so powerful and still on time (from 1991) and needs to be blasting on all airwaves!

Being an RnB/Jazz Guy, This was the tune that first got me listening to Hip Hop, especially a tribe called quest. All because the message was strong and correct!!
The industry does not promote this type of music anymore because it makes 2 much sense. They want blacks, whites, latino's to combat amongst each other.Anything that promotes peace no longer exist in music today. there's no more love, soul, respect ect.it's all about bitches,ho's,guns, bling, cars, drank, strip clubs ect.90% of today's fake,skill-less,pre-school rapping,lyrical-less,bubblegum ass rappers are all about the quick dollar.that's why i keep it straight 60's through 90's h.h.,r&b,funk, & soul
@str8outtatexas1 Yeah it is a trip. Like T.I. said if you try to get a record deal and come with something positive you will get denied. The label will be like don't nobody want to hear that and it is about selling records and positive don't sell. We want you to rap about drugs, guns & hoes RIP Hip Hop and R&B for that matter
im white and never listened to much rap, but this track is a killer and sounds just as good as when me and my friends first heard it back in junior high, so many assholes out there who forgot to wear a condom need to hear this song
@ MrTobinorris he knows how to dress? what kinda shit is that? he can dress in a different style every single day of his life. hes rich. i dont wanna wear my sisters pants yo and then try saggin to think i have "swagga.." the shit doesnt look proper i outta pop you and jet without a gettaway car your gonna have to pull your pants up to catch me sonny
The Jazz samples dominated in the early 90"s. For instance A Tribe called quest and ED OG songs were the most popular at that time and it had a message. Now days guns and drugs are the only substance.....2011 Hip Hop is Plain Garbage.....
it pisses me off to listen to real hiphop on VEVO and see some lame MC singer (*cough kanyewest *sneeze) Dear Kanye, YOU ARE NOT HIP HOP! and Dear LIL Lame, i mean Wayne, YOU ARE ALSO NOT HIPHOP! FUNK ALL THE LIL DISRESPECTFUL KIDS THAT WEAR THROWBACK CAPS AND DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT THE OLD SCHOOL... i mean, myself, im 18. but i have plenty of respect for society.. kids my age piss me off, wearin skinny jeans and saggin them down the ass. im not diggin the trash they and radio present....
@JazzyBlues420 dude, u are a fucking idiot! how in the hell u gone say kanye aint hip hop. u GOTTA be white...AND rhythmically challenged. Kanye is single handedly responsible for bringin the shit back to the essence with raw samples and dirty drums. Dont hate b/c he knows how to dress and understands that the business is about SELLING records. Do u know that he has worked with Pete Rock. No I.D is his mentor..look up State to State by No ID feat. Common. U sound stupid
Damn I wish Hip Hop was still genuine and represented something. No catchy hooks in this song straight truth. Someone has to start the reintroduction of real music back to OUR culture.
ive still got the vhs i recorded this on the firt time it was shown on mtv raps, to many this might not be a big deal, but rap in england back then was hard to come buy
Hands down, this easily beats any song right now on radio and on Billboard Top 20. Instant classic. Ed O.G, this song was pure genius when u made it then and is still relevant now.
" TO ALL THE REAL FATHERS? " by that you mean the one who puts up with your shit, the one who you keep taking from, the one who supports you and your two children from another man!! hahahaha!! ya, the Real Ones!!!
This song has got to be the realist song ever made for hip-hop!! Ed O.G., you made a timeless classic that will never be forgotten! That's more respect than any platinum plaque can ever offer!!
thia is my joint right here. im a mass kid, so ED o.g. is like my home boy, up there with new edition and BBD. i tried to buy this cd, and only found like 4 available on the internet, i spent $55 on this cd, used, but hey its that good of a cd. you know treat it like gold to, im trying to perserve it so it can go to the grave with me, lol.. to bad none of his other music fallowed this like, he kinda went gangster on me, and i aint fellin that stuff. music should be uplifting, not degrading. love

Before you heap praise upon the ideals of Ed O.G. check the rest of the album.. it's hardly all feminist and preachy.. i feel like some people put 'message tracks' in albums to get the female vote in hiphop sales and maybe some positive press, but then the rest of the record is business as usual. I don't care, i like both kinds of tracks, but it always struck me as hypocritical.
This single father learned from his single mother and this song, as well as my father not being capable, due to his mental disabilities. Big up ED O.G. and conscious caring lyrical songs - REAL HIPHOP!! Not this boring slow south coast dopey new low class music now a days, redundant and copying the old and new, be original like this and other diversity risk taking songs!
There are alot of dads that need to listen to this song i thank god that my daughter has a father who know how to be a dad any man can be a father but a daddy is always there
I loved this song when it came out. I especially loved the version of the video featuring sign language. This message NEEDS to get out there... Whatever happened to these guys?
@dsm7051 yeah it do take two the key word two so that mean afterward take care of them these babies didn't ask to be here my daughter dad is a wonderful father even if were not together he takes care of his daughter and i can say i'm proud of him
@mistaiikonz - The dead beats won't ever see this video to read your comment, they're busy watchin' a lame ass "Lil' Lizard" or "Soulja Clown" video, not a quality 90's hip hop track like this is, they can't relate to this, it's too deep an real...
Believe or not but I remember this as a teen and it stuck with me for ever. so props ed o G and the bulldoggs for the message because I heard it and I feel i am father of the year every fathers day.... one of my fav songs ever
@guthrielindquist1 unfortunately it wouldn't work. You wouldn't find companies who want their commercials on your channel and so you wouldn't have the money to sustain it.
This is truly a classic when music was music man. Now its all bout money clothes and hoes big rimz and dope saellin. Please yall let us end this self deteriorating BS we doin to r selves man.
This is truly a classic when music was music man. Now its all bout money clothes and hoes big rimz and dope saellin. Please yall let us end this self deteriorating BS we doin to r selves man
@dal4018 chill with that caps. we get it, you're passionate about the subject. don't forget that men AREN'T the only ones who have abandoned relationships after a child's birth....hard as that is to believe, so don't get that twisted either. peace.
@NitsuaNaed Point taken I was just saying that this applies to white men as well the perception is that black men are irresponsible when it comes to being a parent and that isn't true
Whats sad is I know a few cats like myself that give their all in trying to be a good father to their child, however, some of these women are conniving and selfish. I love to hear this song since it came out and it makes me proud to be a father. Its just the custody bull ish i have to deal with
This is that shit. Should be played everywhere and I got at least two places in mind:P
The first on that teen mom shit or whatever the fuck MTV is calling that travesty now. The second should definitely be at thesex ed classes at school. Katt Williams say, if you dumb enough to hop in a cage with a tiger, you should be told the rest of the story............. that's coming from a man raising a child that isn't his own biologically. Fellas, do the damn thang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss '90's Hip Hop. It certainly was a better era, not just for sound, but content and messages. People still make good and positive Hip Hop, we just don't hear it on the radio. Brainwashing youth at its best to be unproductive. Man, my dad used to bug about "that rap music," wait til he hears the crap that is out now, he'd really have something to complain about!
Watching this video brings tears and anger. Hip hop went from a mode of expression, voice, and a tool of teaching to complete thuggery and foolishness. Its really embarrasing. There is not one current rapper out right now that would have the balls to make a song like this. Its music that moves and inspires you. Be a father to your child is still relevant to day as it was yesterday. The bass also kicks ass too. R.I.P real hip hop for teach the kids and the fathers.
@gotflava1 I agree, the wrong people are in charge of the artists, and the focus has gone from expressing to making money, much like most of the music industry, most of the mainstream music is garbage and is just trying to make money.
Thank you for this post!! You seem very positive to post a rap song of this calibur. This is almost the norm nowadays. A lot of ED OGs peers are doing the opposite of what he is saying, and youth look up to them. I know a lot of "old school" brothers who are still doing the same. It is sad. But I also want to shout out to the brothers/men, who are steppin up.
One of the most important songs in Hip Hop History...should be mandatory for black men to hear. I have a son...not with the mom...but in my sons life daily. This song was lingering in my subconscious...in return i am a father to my child.
Man these dudes leave these women to raise these kids by themselves I cant stand men like then they dont want to take of their mistake also when child support come they dont want to pay it They have the nerve to buy nice shyt and neglect them
Yo the rap and lyrics will remind me when I do become a father to a child, probably a decade or maybe 7 years from now.

One of the best beats I ever heard to a rap song, and Ed O.G.'s lyrics put wit 'em make this song a classic

@mistaiikonz - The dead beats won't ever see this video to read your comment, they're busy watchin' a lame ass "Lil' Lizard" or "Soulja Clown" video, not a quality 90's hip hop track like this is, they can't relate to this, it's too deep an real...

Yo my new goal in life is gonna be to make a channel like mtv. But only play the gold old shit. Back when hip hop was real
guthrielindquist1 1 year ago 2
@guthrielindquist1 unfortunately it wouldn't work. You wouldn't find companies who want their commercials on your channel and so you wouldn't have the money to sustain it.

THIS SONG APPLIES TO WHITE MEN AS WELL SO DON'T GET IT TWISTED
dal4018 1 year ago
@dal4018 chill with that caps. we get it, you're passionate about the subject. don't forget that men AREN'T the only ones who have abandoned relationships after a child's birth....hard as that is to believe, so don't get that twisted either. peace.
NitsuaNaed 1 year ago
@NitsuaNaed Point taken I was just saying that this applies to white men as well the perception is that black men are irresponsible when it comes to being a parent and that isn't true

Whats sad is I know a few cats like myself that give their all in trying to be a good father to their child, however, some of these women are conniving and selfish. I love to hear this song since it came out and it makes me proud to be a father. Its just the custody bull ish i have to deal with

dal4018 1 year ago
This is that shit. Should be played everywhere and I got at least two places in mind:P
The first on that teen mom shit or whatever the fuck MTV is calling that travesty now. The second should definitely be at thesex ed classes at school. Katt Williams say, if you dumb enough to hop in a cage with a tiger, you should be told the rest of the story............. that's coming from a man raising a child that isn't his own biologically. Fellas, do the damn thang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lawhamjr 1 year ago
I miss '90's Hip Hop. It certainly was a better era, not just for sound, but content and messages. People still make good and positive Hip Hop, we just don't hear it on the radio. Brainwashing youth at its best to be unproductive. Man, my dad used to bug about "that rap music," wait til he hears the crap that is out now, he'd really have something to complain about!
Kalicoh 1 year ago
Watching this video brings tears and anger. Hip hop went from a mode of expression, voice, and a tool of teaching to complete thuggery and foolishness. Its really embarrasing. There is not one current rapper out right now that would have the balls to make a song like this. Its music that moves and inspires you. Be a father to your child is still relevant to day as it was yesterday. The bass also kicks ass too. R.I.P real hip hop for teach the kids and the fathers.
gotflava1 1 year ago 3
@gotflava1 I agree, the wrong people are in charge of the artists, and the focus has gone from expressing to making money, much like most of the music industry, most of the mainstream music is garbage and is just trying to make money.

Thank you for this post!! You seem very positive to post a rap song of this calibur. This is almost the norm nowadays. A lot of ED OGs peers are doing the opposite of what he is saying, and youth look up to them. I know a lot of "old school" brothers who are still doing the same. It is sad. But I also want to shout out to the brothers/men, who are steppin up.

Ed O.G. is NOT dead! He still hosts Hot 97 Boston on the weekends and he still raps on a daily basis (see Edo G. & Masta Ace's new album, A & E)

One of the most important songs in Hip Hop History...should be mandatory for black men to hear. I have a son...not with the mom...but in my sons life daily. This song was lingering in my subconscious...in return i am a father to my child.
