  • re 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full ball. if you are playing a 1/2 ball shot for instance, do you aim right down the centre of the cue ball and the cue at the 1/2 ball point ? I find that a lot of my shots go too straight and miss the pocket. it sounds stupid but can you help. also I have a habit of bouncing the cue on the rail when playing shots and failing to make proper contact with the cue ball. what causes this ?

  • How in any way is this usefull

  • good video

  • @ 1:42 the yellow ball tries to run away because he is soooooo bored, but neil's having none of it... GET IN THERE NEIL!!!

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • i think missing a pot deliberately helps your mind to control whatever you do. like a mind memory so the next time the same shot has been dealt to you you know how not to miss the ball.

  • hi neil ... just wondering what method do you use to line up your shot ? point of contact or what ? and another thing what do your eyes do ? flick from cue ball to object ball or look between the cue b and object b to calculate the angle ? thanks

  • @nissanr34blitz There is a great method for working out where to aim for any contact point. It is a new version of the overlap method found at - suite101.com/content/snooker-and-pool-aiming-the-overlap-method-a356906

  • neilmaxman) whats ur highest match break? including just friendlys with ur friends or whatever

  • @jcjackstar ........hello again jcjack .........my highest is 147 ........my highest in pro-ams is 144 and my highest on the professional circuit is 134 .......thanks for asking

  • neilmaxman) 2 reasons to miss a pot - didn't 'see the potting angle' or stroke error (alignment, wrist flip, head movement, elbow flash, etc) Often one does not know the cause, especially if this has been a pot that is regularly missed so there all kinds of negative thoughts. If you use billard cue balls, simply put the dot cue ball on the spot aligned so the the dot shows the correct potting angle. Miss & its obvious it was the stroke & U get to train your brain to see the correct angle.

  • I think its kind of rude calling that ball a dummy just because its smaller than you!!.

  • what try, their is no much lesson, boring teacher,i dont understand how u succeed how u loosed,ur way of teaching is difficult

  • was good and it will help lots

  • yay

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @ssimsharp obviously a good tip for insomnia aswell

  • Thanks for posting this. Still not sure how to aim for quarter/halfball etc., especially when cueball is long way from object ball. For half ball shot, would you be aiming cue at outer edge of object ball?

  • ghost ball is rubbish when i tried it made my game miserable , so i use half ball ball and quarter ball tech. but im very bad in finding larger angles , like quarter and half ball angles, i tried point on impact tech. but i cant figure out should we aim at the spot , becaude its not working on thinner angles can u explain ....

  • thanks neil, well explain and looking forward to seeing more tips

  • Josvankampen - this is snooker not tennis. Think your own the wrong video

  • I have watched all the clips up to 9 so far. I am learning alot from these clips. I am totally terrible at snooker ( highest break of 25 or so :P ) but i am dieing to get better. I will watch the rest before going back to the club for a game :D Thanks alot for these clips.

  • Being a tennis pro myself I have very hard to see the use in missing a pot deliberately, can you explain please?

  • @josvankampen .........i can you have a pm

  • also trevor thank you for watching my clips and sharing your opinions .............

  • the fact is trevor there are several ways of learning the potting angles ........and dummy ball is actually different to ghost .........simply because with dummy you have to keep placing a ball on the potting angle ........the idea is to keep the game simple .....so now your imaging a ball that isn't there and doing what exactly ........hitting a spot on the objcet ball.........so why not forget the ghost and just hit the spot .......simples

  • how daft are you guys?

the dummy or ghost ball is not supposed to be used in a frame of a match !!

it is only to be used to learn the potting angles for any pot ... you don't actually place a ball in the way of the shot ,

YOU IMAGINE IT BEING THERE !

simply visualise the ghost ball being there , it will help you to remember the angles for the major pots on any table..

i CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE THIS TECHNIQUE.

  • well just like in a tournament your opponent wont allow you to use a dummy ball so do you think he will give you a second chance to spot the balls back up? There is no difference. I will say this is a better to way to teach your subconcious mind to see the proper and and learn to intutively aim. I tried to the dummby ball and I just cant visualize it at all.

  • you're absolutely right clayton .......dummy ball or ghost ball whichever you call it just gets way to confusing for a lot of players .......neil

  • nice lessons mate, are you going to cover shot selection at all? i`m sure it would go a long way in connecting the technical side of snooker to the practical side thus making the game more fun in the way of results plusi do like to hear the scouse accent!!

  • I've seen many recommending the dummy ball, including Steve Davis. But in solo-practice, I found it very impractical. Even with someone to help and remove the ball before striking, I find it doesn't really register any useful kind of memory for visualising the shot.

I found myself naturally doing this clip's kind of method, and noticeably improved quite quickly. Good video anyway.

  • Another great lesson my game is improving thank to your efforts, keep up the good work.

  • thank you marty

  • very good lesson thank you alot, however i have trouble with potting balls which are just slightly off the cushion? any ideas? thanks

  • Best snooker tips video I have seen on Youtube. Cheers pal.

  • thank you

  • how should be the eye movements, from beginning to end of potting? thanks

  • Thank you Neil, I've been having problems with my potting since moving to a full size table about seven years ago! This is such an obvious solution but usually I get disappointed when missing a pot and don't put the balls back. I could pot from anywhere on a small table but had real issues on a full size table, even with easy shots. I've tried the ghost ball technique but it seems unnatural. If you think of anything else that could help me, please let me know. Thanks again.

  • Very nice video! Keep it up!

  • thanks very much .....be sure to watch all the other snooker pro tips
