I saw Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, TN. At the end of the performance, all of the girls were screaming, so Joe Bennett took off his belt and threw it into the audience! I caught that belt and I still have it in one of my old Jr. High scrapbooks!!
I remember hearing this song in the Disney film, The Rescuers Down Under, where Wilbur the Albatross, voiced by the late John Candy, is singing and dancing to it. But when the song just stop and he was like "Hey! Who killed the music?" LOL! Wilbur!
up there with all the other great "pants" rockers, pink peg slacks by eddie cochran, blue jean bop/ red blue jeans and a ponytail by gene vincent and pink peddle pushers by carl perkins.
@NDW85 I've loved the rescuers down under since I was 2 and always thought this song was cool, but never knew the name of it until a few weeks ago. Thank god for youtube!

@NDW85 YES!!! Oh my gosh, I heard it first there, too! That is one of my favorite disney cartoons and I always loved the song, but I could never find it!!!
Got alot of buddies of mine who are into the whole greaser and rockabilly scene...
They let me borrow all kinds of music and I just throw it in my iPod. Anyways the whole point of my story is that this song came on random the other day and it really impressed me. I swear I played it like 4 times in a row after that and saved it to my favorites. That is all....ok bye adios!!

This is a GREAT song, however it wasn't a #1 hit. It peaked at 17. Not trying to be a dick, I'm just sayin.

"Black Slacks", and "Pink Shoelaces"... Do you know of any other '50s/'60s songs about clothing?

"Blue Suede Shoes"

@gregoryagogo
"Who wears short shorts?" by the Royal Teens, which included Al Kooper, later of Blood, Sweat and Tears fame in the late 60s.

"A white sports coat and a pink carnation" by famed country singer, Marty Robbins.
A bit sappy, but it still counts.
