WELL MY WIFE AS JUST COPIED YOUR EMAIL AND AS GONE TO SEE THE POLICE IN OUR VILLAGE AL;L THIS COS I SAID GARRY MOORE WAS RUBBISH WHEN I SAW HIM LIVE WHICH YOU HAVE SAID YOU NEVER DID . WELL THE POLICE WILL BE BANGING ON YOUR DOOR . YOU CANT SEND EMAILS LIKE THAT AND GET AWAY WITH IT
Fanstastic stuff, what a superb blend of rock and trad celtic!
If I'm not much mistaken thats Robbie Brennan on the drums, previously of Phil Lynott's Grand Slam and of course he played with Gary in the early 70's in Skid Row. I wonder if he did this as a favour to Gary as he had no permanent drummer at the time? Anyone know?
RIP Gary, we'll never see the likes of you again and the world is a poorer place without you.
I'm not quite certain, but I think he was trying to grab on the whammy bar for that note at 2:57, but...there is not a bar to whammy. Funny stuff from a legendary musician.
@Shredalist Probably had something to do with equipment; if memory serves me correctly, Moore used a Paul Reed Smith during the Wild Frontier sessions, and a Fender Stratocaster during the supporting concert tour in 1987.
I remember seeing this. I know the description says 1987, but I`m sure I saw Gary Moore and The Chieftains doing this on the Late Late Show in (I think it was March) 1988. Anyway, I like that Rock/Trad. fusion, like Thin Lizzy`s Black Rose, and of course Horslips.
This mix is what they must've been trying to approach during the Wild Frontier sessions; I'd have had no trouble with Scots' drumming on a 10" Pearl here (pipe and drum corps is among my influences).
@gotrekspyke The only problem with NIghtwish's is Tarja... she's a good singer but she ain't Irish enough. And Empuu is no Gary of course ;) but is anyone?
@Obelix5150 Oh well I'd like there was more Gary around the world.... I actually can't explain why.... It's like when you're a child and your dad tells you a story to sleep...well with this song, Gary's my dad...and Tarja's the girl that works in the shop at the other end of the street, you know her, but she doesn't sing for your heart! ;)

@Shredalist I guess he's simply adjusting the volume for the solo...

Nightwish killed the spirit of this song... It really sucks, in my opinion...
