  • such a talented person RIP always loved the character of leo, but everyone in west wing was brilliant :')

  • John Spencer is that Father/Grandfather that I've never had. RIP sir.

  • This is so hard to watch at this time of the year. RIP John, I miss you and the show. :(

  • When Sorkin wrote the show, there was always something extra special about the Christmas episodes. In Excelsis Deo in Season 1, this episode (Noel) in Season 2, and Bartlet for America from Season 3 were all deeply moving. Just one more testament to Sorkin's brilliance.

  • John Spencer is sadly missed.

  • there are nine people who would have walked on

  • What's the name of this episode?

  • This is why they put the West Wing together!

  • Amazing performance from John Spencer (RIP)!

  • can't watch this without crying - one of the finest scenes in the series

  • Don't worry Josh, a fear of rectangles is completely normal.

  • I'm watching this on a widescreen monitor, and I'm terrified for my very life.

  • My wife has a PhD in Psychology, and when I showed her "Noel" she commented on how the build-up of Josh's symptoms over weeks as well as his treatment was absolutely *spot-on* to real-life PTSD Survivors. Kudos to AS, TS, Bradley Whitford and the entire case!

  • I love how she always dresses him.

  • Bradley Whitford won his well deserved Emmy for this brilliant episode.

  • 9 people are ignorant and havn't seen one episode of this drama.

  • Damn, I miss you Leo!!!!!

  • Goddamnit !!! this is a great show.

  • LEOOOOO! <3

  • I miss this masterpiece sooooo much!

  • I UNDERSTAND THE PTSD. I HAD SOMETHING LIKE THAT A WHILE AGO. THANK GOD FOR LEO! HE HAS HELPED ME . I LISTEN TO THIS EVERY MORNING. IT HELPS WITH THE PTSD

  • The most powerful thing ever!

  • DAMN That's sooo strong !

  • really someone plese tell me what episode this was from

  • @spammyj13 It's from Season 2, Episode 10, "Noel"

  • What episode is this from?

  • REALLY GOOD !!

  • I'm going through a rough time and my best friend just sent me this. Damn this brings tears to my eyes.

Everyone needs friends like this. Evidently the writer does.

Thanks for posting this scene from one of the greatest TV shows ever.

  • As long as I got a job you got a job.

  • OMG! this made me cry, this is the whole purpose of ministry. Thank you Jesus, this is beautiful.

  • This scene showed how much of a father figure Leo was to Josh. I love this scene and its hard to watch without JS around. :(

  • love yaaa jenks :)

  • I had a best friend once, I helped her out through a lot of problems. She asked me once, why did I help her so much?.....I told her this story, and she started crying.

  • @JNR7217 Shes, still my best friend, I just wish she felt the way I feel about her.

  • This is a Leo speech, but it's as much about Donna as Leo. she was the one that put all of this into motion. Josh would be flailing otherwise.....

  • The West Wing was the best TV show EVER. I have all seasons on DVD and watch them about once a year. Sure wish they would do another season!!!

  • How I wish The real White House was like this. Where government really cared about people.

  • @skorpyonayts1169 It's sad that it's so obviously fiction.

  • This is one of the truly BEST shows ever, shows like The West Wing, The Sopranos and Deadwood......what happened to television

  • Best scene ever. I cry every time I see it. Leo is the man.

  • My favourite scene/Leo quotation of the whole of the seven series of The West Wing!

  • How much money do you think we would have to pay Mr Sorkin to get him to write another season: Discuss

  • @dukestt would actually love to see a movie with the original cast...

  • sensational. the fact that even 7 people have the audacity to dislike this is purely insulting.

  • jtren your right

  • I love this scene, and I love that Aaron references it a whole season later. Aaron Sorkin and the West Wing make me happy. :)

  • Leo. The best Chief of Staff ever...

  • I seriously wish I had a friend like Leo McGarry!! Last of a generation.

  • RIP John Spencer.

    RIP West Wing.

  • I love this.

  • loveeeee donna!

  • You know I was just wondering where I could watch this in HD. Oh look there's a post telling me. Oh look there's another one. And another and another and another. We get the frigging idea. If you want to post something post something relevant to the clip, if not then just PISS OFF!!!!!

  • west wing...until season 5 or whenever Sorkin left was just awesome.

  • When Leo is in trouble and testifies in front of a congressional committee, you see Josh telling Leo on the phone that he can help and tells Leo "there are these two guys in a hole".....magnificent moment.

  • love that...one of the best leo scenes

  • which episode is this??

  • This aspect of Leo's character is part of what made him such a great man...realizing how far a person could fall but also how much higher they could rise if given the right chance.

  • BEST show ever on television, and this form a staunch conservative.

  • all of us can stand to have an open mind.

  • I agree with you and it is the best show ever and I'm also highly conservative.

  • its from not form

  • Thanks Boss.... Nuf said... RIP Leo...

  • Absolutely

  • The run of this show was one of the high points in the history of television.

  • hello

  • too many good scenes in the west wing to pick a top 10 or even top 100 but this is dam fine

  • Lymphatics

  • Maybe the highlight of Season 2.

  • Perfect description of a friendship

  • what a great scene from a great episode. it was good in "noel" to finally see into the character of Josh a bit more. its a nice story to tell someone in a situation like this to show how you can relate to the person and help them...

  • I relay this to friends when they are in need. I always remember this. It has actually helped me get through some tough times. My son also. God bless John Spencer's memory, and God bless Aaron Sorkin for his writings.

  • Can someone please please please put up that scene where the President is speaking to the Secretary of Agriculture before the State of the Union and he asked him a series of qns whether he knew what to do as acting president and ends off with "do you have a best friend? Is he smarter than you? Then he's your chief of staff"

Been looking for it but to no avail!

  • @laudll Search "he shall from time to time" It should be the first one.

  • Foundt it, thanks!!

  • does anyone know what the christmas carol or song is at the end of the scene, cant find it anywhere

  • It's called the Carol of the Bells. A lot of times it's instrumental.

  • @edwards100000 - I know this is a year late and possibly someone else already told you, but that's the chorale version of Carol of the Bells. It's my favorite Christmas carol. :D

  • remind me which season this was from?

  • Season 2, Episode Noel

  • best scene in west wing ever

  • This reminded me of another favorite story of friendship. If your in trouble with the law, a good friend will bail you out. Your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying, "that was awsome!"

  • An old friend will help you move. A good friend will help you move a dead body.

    -- Jim Hayes

  • They don't make dramas like this anymore.

  • @beanieboy007 Dexter is quite good.

  • I've never watched a single episode of this show, but many of the clips on youtube make me wish i had.

  • There is alway's The Bravo Channel. Its in syndication.

  • you should do yourself a favor and watch it. Best show ever on tv imo

  • @seanbrockest Rent it or borrow it from the library. Hell, buy it. You won't regret it. I'm halfway through the 5th season and it's easily in my top 5 shows... in fact, between "Arrested Development" and this, it's a toss-up for #1.

  • god, i LOVE this video..... :D

Josh Lyman and Leo McGarry-- my two most favorite characters ever.

  • the relationship these 2 have is great in this lik father and son i just adore these 2 especially leo hes my favourite xx

  • noel is one of my fav episodes

i have it on my ipod :D

  • One of the best moments of this amazing show!

Josh's and Leo's characters are incredible!!

Still today I miss this kind of conversations on TV

  • this one makes me cry

  • I love the Leo -Josh dynamic. He's often caught up in the higher issues with the President compared to the others... but he really does deserve the title of 'Chief of Staff'. Because that's who he really is.. their chief.

  • This is one of my favorite WW moments. I think this explains the relationship between Josh and Leo so well.

  • That's a friend.

    A real friend.

Doesn't ask questions - just knows what he knows and tells it so.

  • This is one of the best sceans ever in The West Wing. What loyalty, love and friendship this speaks to. When all others have tossed you aside, a true friend like this will stick with you when you're done. BRAVO to all who wrote and performed in this scene!!

  • -It could be infected, you could have a thing.

    -What thing?

-How the hell do I know?

    I love you Leo.

  • The love between all the characters on this show is so amazing.

  • "He thinks I may have an eating disorder...and a fear of rectangles. That's not weird, is it?"

I <3 Josh! He's my favorite character! (And Leo.)

  • The line that moves me the most is this - "Long as I got a job, you got a job, you understand?." I'd kill to have a boss who was that supportive of me.

  • One of the best moments ever in the West Wing.

  • Comment removed

  • That's the test for true friendship.

  • someone doesn't understand hope. this is just tv, but it is tv that appeals to the good in people.

  • that's great.

  • leo in at his best. rest in peace john spencer.

  • i love this scene, the world needs more leos. thanks for posting

  • LOL pitty noone thinks this way any more & when someone does it's never believed when.

  • nice

  • Perfect.

  • This is my favorite episode. I watch it every year near Christmas.

  • First episode I ever saw....and that was all I needed to watch the rest of the show.

  • Whats the name of the piece of music at the end?

  • Carol of the Bells. Sounds really sped up, though.

  • God bless you John Spencer!

  • leo was fantastic. he got a little pissy near the end though.

  • Leo was probably the best character on the show. Didn't everyone want a "Leo" in their lives? The end was unfortunate - I think the original plan was to have a big "coming together" scene w/ Bartlett, but sadly, John Spencer died. It was a real loss - noy only to the West Wing world, but to ours as well-

  • I agree. Well said.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • @step5732 Leo was my favorite character from the very first episode I saw. Different aspects of him remind me of several different people I know and admire, and that's the mark of a good character -- someone who you feel like you know.

  • @grumpytosnowwhite Couldn't have put it better myself.

  • Is this from the episode Noel?

  • Yes.

  • Is this from the episode Noel?

  • I love this show, all really great characters :D Leo and Toby are fave characters cos of teh great lines they come out with :D - so sad about John Spencer a true legend !

  • The best part is that Sorkin uses this again when Leo has to testify in front of the Houst Oversight Committee. When Leo and Josh are on the phone... Josh says it back to Leo! : )

  • You have to love John Spencer (Leo) - what a fabulous scene!

  • i have a fear of rectangles

  • Noel was already great thanks to Bradley Whitford's performance....this scene is icing on the cake.

  • Noel consistently appears on WW fans' top ten favorite episodes. It didn't hurt that Adam Arkin was the guest star.

  • AS long as I got a job, you got a job, understand? Imagine hearing that in real life.

  • And even more than being moved to hear the line being said to you, imagine being the kind of person who would say that to another.

Personally, I am glad for Josh, but even more than that, I am awed by Leo. I want to be blessed with a friend like Leo, but even more than that I hope to become like Leo to my friends.

  • wow. you wrote what I think.

  • that was to ermineermine (7 months ago) -

"And even more than being moved to hear the line being said to you, imagine being the kind of person who would say that to another.

  • I've said it to my brother & an ex girlfriend among others & have never had a bad response infact all have been overwhelmed by it. Pitty more dont wait around let alone think this way & even more pitty that noone believes it when someone final does.

  • that was great!

  • Probably my favorite clip from all seasons of the West Wing... thanks for uploading it!

  • You know what I love about The West Wing? Everytime you think you've seen the best episode the bums write another one that's even better. Thanks for the clip.

  • too true.

  • This is one of my favorite episodes.

  • I've used it a few times, it's one of my favorite monologues.

  • Great PTSD episode. Can you update any other parts?

  • absolutely wonderful

  • Oh, yeah... I teared up when I first saw this, too. If only such loyalty & heroism was the norm in our real-life leaders.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • absolutely fantastic. from the episode "noel" in season 2. first time i heard this i had tears in my eyes, leo mcgary (and john spencer..) is a legend. thanks for uploading this :)

  • brilliant!

  • thanx
