hey, so in ur opinion is this camera fine for a beginner to use for youtube footage. because the one i am using is just trash. and wats a good editor softwar that is good for a beginer too?
Yes, I think that this camera is just fine for beginner Youtube quality footage. It's a simple camera that performs well in well-lit conditions -- not so well in dim conditions. Image stabilization works great. Luckily, now in 2011 you can get this thing for pretty cheap. Don't pay too much for it and it should serve you well. For software: on the mac you could use iMovie or (I recommend) Final Cut Express; on PC you could try Windows movie maker or one of the sony vegas packages
I'm not sure (I'm a mac user), but I would imagine it would - if not natively, I'm sure you could at least convert the files to work with wmm on vista (try Roxio Toast or MpegStreamclip).
I filmed the review with a Canon Powershot A620 point-&-shoot camera, which is not a great camera for videos - the audio is awful and there is no focussing (or optical zooming) once you hit record. I recorded the audio separately using just a usb Rock Band microphone into the computer, then replace the audio track on the video with that.
Sound quality on the fs100 is decent. It claims to do Dolby Digital Stereo and it sounds pretty usable for most things. FS200 is out now and is likely the same
Unfortunately you cannot focus after you start recording video. Neither can you zoom optically. I prefocus each clip at a certain distance, then stop recording, refocus and start again.
That is true for the FS100 yes, but NOT for the Powershot A620 point & shoot camera in video mode, which is what we were talking about here at the moment. (see rainbowtotherescue's question above)
Probably not, because there is no threading on the front of the lens. You might be able to make some sort of slip on one or something though if you are creative. Good luck!
The .MOD files are supported by most video editing suites. Sony Vegas Platinum 9 (Not Pro) supports it as does its cheaper version Movie Studio ($30). After Effects and Premier support it. Pinnacle and Ulead are going to support that file in their next release.

@oceanviewlvr It should work; the Canon shoots in a MPEG-type ".mod" format.

Unfortunately you cannot focus after you start recording video. Neither can you zoom optically. I prefocus each clip at a certain distance, then stop recording, refocus and start again.

Yes you can. at anytime. click the center button, hit down 2 times, then up once and then left and right to adjust focus
