Technology has produced the laziest generation known to man. There are 30 yr old men who have never grabbed a shovel or broom. Technology has not only made humanity lazy its stolen more jobs than it will ever produce. Technology has brought about the welfare state because labor hours needed to run the economy keep shrinking. I would suggest that it's what part of the US your living in that makes one think the sky is falling. In up state NY, my neck of the woods, it's never been really bad. We have a strong community support system in place, foreclosure was never a big problem because "flipping" houses wasn't a way to get rich quick around here. Natural Gas drilling and new light rail business is creating jobs. We don't live Hollywood style but that's ok with us.

We went to a local public car auction today, and to be honest it is hard to tell that alot of people are hurting. Many are out there spending money still, drove by the mall and it was pretty busy.....I don't think most people know just how bad things are getting, like they say it is a recession when your neighbor loses their job but a depression when you lose yours....I think there are alot more job losses coming.

I think the reason they say we avoided a depression is because the are referring to a deflationary downtturn (extended). Of course, they are wrong. The things we own are deflating and things we buy are going up in price (like food...)

The rate hike was a smoke screen after the Treasury sell off by China. our exports in terms of dollars to China sounded pretty decent until I found out what we are exporting... Scrap metal is a huge part of it. As we liquidate they are buying up our scrap. How many employees do scrap yards have? Not many. They are keeping the cost of steel low until the scrap starts to run out.

I'm employed skimming by ... a lot of people are in that bad house boat. Houses will not appraise very good to re-finance in this low interest time, banks are wanting a lot of money down. Short sale, walking away is stiffing the Bank. what is the best choice?

They will officially stop working about 2-3 weeks from now.

1) Walmart closed 10 Sam's clubs.
2) Walmart outsourced the product demonstrator jobs to a corp called "Shopper Events." The fired Walmart employees were encouraged to apply for about 10,000 new jobs with SE.
