As a lifetime libertarian, I have frequently struggled with the problem of apparent conflict between individual independence and collective interdependence. It seems that niether aknowledges the legitimacy of the other and each seeks to destroy the other. I called myself a libertarian socialist for a while, them discovered that Noam Chomsky (I love him) had coined the expression for a kind of anarchy. Now I am calling myself a social libertarian. We MUST discover balance!
