  • Makes me want to jump down, turn around, and pick a bale of cotton.

  • @sky12066sed3

    Haha, that's great!!

  • Hey Man! Do you have your guitars set up when they arrive or play factory set up? I'm 90% convinced to get the wooden Mini Reso. Do you have/like Nationals? I've had many many vintage Nationals over the years and still play an El Trouvador & new reproduction Duolian. Both are amazing guitars but as we all know.... pricey. All your videos with the Republic Guitars sound really good. Is the sound quality consistent from one instrument to the other?

    Thanks,

    mike

    Louisville, Ky. USA

  • My Republics and Amistars are factory set up and it works really well. Usually after a while I do my own set ups to get things the way I want it!! But not always..

My 5 Republics have ALL been awesome from the first moment out of the box..

I can't say how others are but my guitars have been great, that's all I can say.. :-)

The Miniolian is really cool and amazing for the size and price!!!

  • Fantastic video John...I want to buy a rebublic guitar soo bad..lol...John, out of all of these, what's YOUR favorite? Or do you really have one?

  • THANKS!! Glad you like it!

Even though I like each one I must say that a tricone always wins when I have to choose!!!

  • @BottleneckJohn i john, love ur playing as always, i am thinking of buying this, will it cope in a acoustic jam say with a few guitars and a harp player, i was not sure about how loud it is, but i want to try it becasue i travel a lot, i take my telecaster with me for electric and maybe this for acoustic slide, but it would be much more easy to trasport or carry this than a big heavy steel body full reso, so how is it? thanks so much. tom

  • @tom27j

    Thanks, Tom!

The Miniolian is quite loud and it's light weight compared to most other reso's..

But it's not louder than the Highway 61! So if you want a travel-reso maybe the Hgw61 could be a good choice? The 3/4 size(see my video clips) is just awesome, great tone and volume!!

Smaller than the Miniolian and somewhat lighter than the full size metal resonators.

If you're after the "tone of wood" in a reso, go for the Miniolian.

    Good luck finding your guitar!!!

  • @BottleneckJohn , oh and i ment the miniolin by the way!

  • Dear John, I'm always enjoying your vids.

Thank you so much for the marvelous sounding guitars.

  • Thank YOU very much for being here watching!!

  • Great playing!

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • Miniolian discontinued... But I'm still waitin' for M2

Mini. I love miniolians cos they're cool fingerstyle guitars and perfect slide guitars. If I could buy one of them...

  • Yes, these are great wood body reso's!!!

  • I called Frank today. It is on the way

    Resolian model #318

    Thanks for your help

  • Awesome, good luck!!!!

Post some clips here when you get it!!

  • Thanks for the quick reply, I am going t call frank and order one today.

  • Awesome, you'll love it!!

  • Great playing.

Was the resolian a steel body or Brass?

I want to order one and only Steel available. I though Brass was what I wanted but a few clips on here may have changed my mind.

Well That and the fact that I want one. We all know what waiting for another guitar feels like. Thanks again for a great sample of guitars and talent

  • Thank You!!

This Resolian is a steel body, I have another one in brass, you can find some clips here to hear it. It's polished and shines compared to this one, LoL!!

    Get a Resolian!!!! :)

  • Now that was cool. Loved it!

  • I could listen to you play all day. You rock man...I mean you blue...er...you know what I mean.

  • I get it..!! :)

THANKS a lot, it means much to me to hear that people like my music!!!!

  • Sounds Great Bottleneck John!

Thanks for sharing music with us.

    :>)

  • Thanks for checking this out!!!

  • ;>)

  • Dang! I just sold my resonator (Paul Beard) and now I want one of these. Every time I hear slide guitar on a resonator it draws me in. Keep posting!

  • Get one!

    You won't regret it!!

  • THANKS!!!

  • Great video John!!! I think all three sound are very cool but the resolian is still the favorite... i'm glad i bought that guitar, onley thing i regret was not getting the built in pick-up for the extra 150$ :-(

Btw ..have you seen that new wood body parlor at Frank's? I think that's a cool little woody parlor!

    Cheers, Frans.

  • Yeah, the Resolian is cool, my "favorite" changes.. Mostly I go for a tricone sound!!

  • I have several glass slides, but I'm having a little trouble finding the right weight..Any suggestions ???

  • The only glass slides I can recommend are the Diamond Bottlenecks from the UK.. They make some really fat and heavy pieces!!

  • I bought the resolian guitar as well and it was good to go when i got it.. not sure what happened with the miniloian....Im disappointed that more money will have to be spent to iron out the rough spots but again the sound is cool and i like this video you did a lot!

  • I love the Miniolian sound too!!

  • Well I bought the Miniolian guitar and i was happy with the sound but the frets were not level and also the nut spacing was not constant ..in fact the nut was not glued on and it fell off while checking it ...but maybe frank built the nut that way for some reason ..not sure why...also the frets should have been smoother along the edge of the neck..Did you have to tweak yours any or did it come out of the case with perfection?..Like I said the sound is cool but I was a little surprised

  • The fretboard on my Miniolian has shrunk a bit too, so the frets were poppin' out.

I used a fret-file to fix the problem and now it's really smooth!! Fixed in 20 minutes!

No such troubles on my Resolian and tricone though!

It has to do with the vast difference in humidity between Sweden and where they're made in China I guess..

  • Think the last one, Tricone Style 3 has the old blues sound, but also the woody Miniolian, had to choose. Wonder how the old guys got their, maybe passed on and they have played untill they had money to buy one. Must be a lot of stories. Beware on the crossroad at nightfall:)

  • Hi John, cool vids, great playing! I've just started to get into bottle neck & I'm looking to maybe buy a republic parlour sized resonator, but Im struggling to decide on which model. I love the sound of the bottle neck on the resolian, but think I prefer the woody tone of the miniolian for the fretted notes....lol. Which is the most fun to play? Also if you could only have 1 parlour for bottleneck playing, which model would you choose the reslolian or the miniolian?

  • Hey Surferboy!

Man.. I just can't choose like that, LoL!!

If one thinks reasonably about it the Resolian would be a good way to go, it has everything a good reso should have!!

However, the Miniolian lacks some bass BUT it has a "sting" to the tone that I just can't find in any other reso...

I always come back to the Miniolian for some reason..

Either one of them is a good choice I must say...

  • Thanks John, maybe I'll try and find a shop here in the uk that stocks them so I can go have a play.

  • Frailers in Runcorn stock Republic resonators

  • Just ordered an aged Resolian from Frank :o)

  • Awesome!

    Congrats, you won't regret it!!!

  • I think I you could put out an outstanding Slide tutorial if you were of a mind to.

  • Thanks for thinking that!!

Actually many people have asked me to do tutorial clips or DVD, one day I might do it!

  • Hey John... sounds great! Scott here, you answered a few questions about the Resolian for me and helped me decide. Still lovin' mine... I've had alot of resonators, and this has been my favorite one.

  • Hey Scott!

Yeah, I'm happy to be able to help out!! :)

Good to hear that your Resolian is a favurite, keep resonatin' bro!!

    BJ

  • so what got you into republics and when....they all sound great

  • The reason is that they're awesome looking and playing reso's and for the price a musician can afford, LoL!!

I LOVE these guitars, they have great necks, great cones and fine craftmanship.

The necks are what makes me the most happy, really fat 1930's necks!! :)

And, since they're being made in China a surprise might be that they're actually hand built!!!

  • Some really skilled men and women carve the necks etc. by hand, I find this a bit more interesting than the modern CNC-routing machines used by other guitar manufacturers.

Being hand-built, each guitar gets it's own character, which to me is really cool..

  • I first got my Miniolian in a trade for some other guitars and mandolins here in Sweden, man, I was HOOKED from the first strum, haha!

Especially the Miniolian's got a grip on me, it has sustain which I must have in a guitar but also some strange "eeire" reverb that I have not heard in another reso so far, amazingly cool feature!!! I don't know if it's just my Miniolian or if it's the same in others..

They sound great and they play great!!

    Highly recommended!
