  • you were verrrrry lucky to get one of the 2 window seats :)

    nice vid...

    --Mike

  • Love the C-5's & C-17's they are amazing aircraft, but I still LOVE the 'ol fashioned C-130's. They are great and once airborne can maintain flight on only one of the four engines.

  • Nice. I'm 12 and im going to go into the airforce and fly one.

  • What a pity there never was a passenger variant of this aircraft - to compete with the 747.

  • I LOVE THIS GIANT !!!

  • I rode one in 1983 from Dhaharan, Saudi Arabia to Barajas Airport in Madrid Spain. Newzdude700 did not show the ladder that you need to climb to go into the passanger compartment or the one to get into the pilots cabin.......

  • This is a nice video and the first I've seen of a C-5 Galaxy in flight from the inside of one.

  • i understand the whole tx payer angle, but sit your ass down and let me fly......

  • C-5s are now recieving new more powerful engines that no doubt increase the capabilities of the plane. But unfortunately the new engines don't sound the the old ones. the old C-5 engines have the most unmistakable, beautiful sounding engines. I live about 30 miles from Travis AFB and sometimes on my day off I'll drive out there just to watch those guys do touch and goes.

  • Why were you flying in a passenger version of the c-5 military jet?

  • why were you riding in a passenger version c-5

  • @FSXeagle3 The C-5A has accommodations for 73 passengers including the crew. The passenger areas are located above the cargo hold. They also have a couple rooms with 3 bunk beds in each room. Its essentially a 2 story plane.

  • It looked like at one point the crew was flying on only 2 engines. Can any Galaxy guys or buffs chime in and tell me what that was?

  • @seoceancrosser It is the standard for doing AR's as using all 4 engines makes it very difficult to maintain correct airspeed when only small teaks are needed. On the C-141, I only used #2&3 engines during my Air refueling missions. It doesnt show an AR, but when you are only flying 200 knots, you dont need to use all 4. Its basically A/C preference.

  • Where is the quietest part in that plane for passengers?

In order to put you in the cockpit of that beast, it takes all that mass and engineering behind you.

  • I love them all:The C-5B, KC-10, B-52,C-17, C-130,...Hell!, I love all American aircraft since 1903. B-17G, B-29, B-36, B-58,B-24J, B-25, B-26, I could go on, but I won't.

  • I had the privilage to "fly out" of Okinawa Japan on a C5 back in 1980 the flight landed in Hawaii , we took on fuel , then off to California, touched down in 9 hrs, the C5 is without any doubt an increible aircraft, being a Former Marine i've always appriciated the U.S. Air Force. The C5 will always hold a place in my life, i got home in time , just before my Dad passed away from a heart attack. Thanks guys for getting me home. I owe you, Semper Fi

  • Air Force likes the C-17s over the C-5s. They want to junk all their C-5As and they probably only tolerate the newer C-5s. Must be a reliability or money reason. I really like the C-17s and all the crazy takeoff and landing stunts they can do.

  • @GreatInca Not True. The reason the C-17's were so highly prized at the turn of the Millennium, was due purely to politics. They wanted to sell the Airframe.. While I was in The Balkans, I would have much rather have used the C5 than the C-17... it would have taken half as many missions to accomplish the same goal. But the D.O.D. wanted to test them in Wartime conditions. Their First Ever Wartime Assignments in 1999.

  • I can't believe that you could see out of that Port Hole...They are are usually scratched so bad you can't even see the wing.

  • No autothrottle I guess, as all four thrust levers are set differently? And looks like he controls them manually at cruise.. :)

  • I flew in one of these once, from Diego Garcia to Clark AFB in the Philipines. I just remember that we sat facing backwards and they gave us blankets because it was very cold.

  • As a former USAF jet engine man,I can say the C-5 is a great airplane.....it has a few issues,as many older planes do.....but it's awesome capabilities are still unmatched.....I was at Dover AFB....my babies were tail #'s 447 and 465...with 6015 being an occasional patient,LOL!! To this day I see them flying off into the blue right here in my home.......still miss working on them...especially 465...the one I was actually assigned to.....God Bless the USA and you all.....

  • @e081194eng wtf?? ur not even funny

  • The Galaxy is a vital national asset. She deserves the avionics and engine upgrades. To retire the C5 would deal a severe blow to our airlift capability.

This airplane had a really troubled development. It makes for an interesting read. But she's a great bird, nonetheless.

  • @AirCargoHeavy The C-5 has just recently recieved a major avionics overhall to update the old systems to new glass cockpits with digital displays. It is a great aircraft but also has limited capability and parts issues being so old. The new workhourse for the air force is the c-17.

  • @lucasallen28 Agreed, and I didn't mean to take away from the C-17, a fine aircraft and fitting successor to the airlift mission.

The avionics and engine upgrades are being done only to the -B- models, and not to all of them.

  • amazing planes good for you usaf

  • Ironic: Humongous plane, tiny cockpit, lol.

    Great video!

  • 1:12 why r they only using engines 2 and 3 on cruise???

  • @drake123josh , I believe the reason is for fuel conservation

  • @HuasoPodrido it is also possible that it will increase range but still its very unusual

  • oh man... i rememeber the long overseas route in these things =P one window...haha

  • How high do these planes fly. I know most passanger jets fly about 30000 to 40000 ft. high and do about 500-550 MPH.

  • For sure not a quiet ride lol

  • shmexy plane

  • the caddy of airplanes.

I live out by AEDC in TN, i saw one land(where my house was if i had had a 700 ft pole i could have poked it) Not to long ago, those things are BEASTLY loud.

  • @xeronicus It probably had the old original engines on it. The "screamer" engines as I call em. The new C-5's are getting the B-767 engines which are a lot quieter, burn less fuel and weigh less overall. Win win in every department!

  • @xeronicus I could not agree with you more. I live in memphis where we have the 164th Airlift wing. When one comes in on approach to KMEM you can here it WAAAAAAAAY before you see it. then when you see it the whole house shakes and u cant hear anything but this screaming sound.

  • @ypaul123 Dude on The GOD knows what you are trying to say over here.

  • whoa i didnt see the 700 WLW are yuo from cincy

  • was everyone military or was it like a charity event

  • May be a VIP or a DV. A mayor or senator or something idk.

  • Who's the fricken civilian lady, looking like a tourist in the cockpit...? This must be an ANG C-5.... Anyone know...?

Or is the whole fleet of C-5's ran by the Fricken National Guard...?

    The FNG's,,,lol....

  • no these are called space available flights. if an aircraft has room to fly military, and miltary dependants all over the world they do. My dad was in the army and we flew to germany on a c5 for about 20 bucks for a family of 5. they invite all the people to check out the cockpit and what not. just a way for them to provide more benefits to there military dependents and families.

  • It's called a Boss's flight....reservists invite their bosses for a tour and a flight. No big deal

  • Great video BTW.... I have never understood why they put the seats facing the rear position on a C-5. It's the same area of space, just rearrange the seats like every other aircraft out there. It would drive me nuts having the feeling of going backwards. LOL

  • Seats facing rear are for safety

  • Good video. You're lucky to get a window seat.

  • IN MY opinion The C-5 is the best Aircraft I´ve flown in the galaxy a lot of times and its the best sense. GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY

  • @SYAP33

God, too - but mainly the Pentagon :P

  • @SYAP33 Your god blessed your country with resources riches and a pretty good political system. People like you who thought your god would take care of everything drove gods country bankrupt with wars that lack any strategic reason other than the need for revenge for an attack 10 years ago. People like you looked at the Soviet Union and said, hey, let's do everything they did, police state, runaway military, invade Afghanistan. God will save us, we can do it. Dumbass. Nice vid, thanks.

  • @SYAP33 Not really much doing of America. You might as well say God bless German scientists. Half of them are the reason for stuff like that. WWII basically helped America form.

  • @carby212 wow someone hates America...

  • @MrAir4orce Not really in fact I am one of the only Canadians that actually respects America. Just saying that after WWII they took all the scentists and from all them working they have gotten to where they are now.

  • @carby212

Oh really? And I guess German scientists helped us stomp the dogshit out of the Nazi's too huh?

And German scientists helped us build the bombs that we dropped on Japan to end the war?

Yes, Werner von Braun and some of the scientists that he brought with him contributed tremendously to our space program. That's about as far as it goes. There's been much doing of America thank you.

  • @carby212

Well, I just figured it out. You are a game playing child. What do you know of history?

  • @jamcrane3 Stop being so fucking patriotic. Your country isn't the best. No ones is. Accept that your country would never have had half of the tuff it does if you didn't take the Germans.

  • @carby212 Hey Nicky, STFU! You're an ignorant kid!

  • @falcondriver100 Really ignorant because I state the truth? You guys look at war as some fucking little fun game to play. War should be avoided at all costs but you guys seem to love it.

  • @carby212 Why don't you go suck Ron Pauls cock and let people enjoy these videos in peace.

  • @ImFaceman I am. Just stating. God blessing a country of it's ability to kill doesn;t seem to good as well. Just saying that the Germans really helped you out. Just some nice history. No ignorance. But go on anyways.

  • @SYAP33 Its certainly huge, but its an old "airframe" and it won't last forever. My wife and I flew one over 2 yrs ago to Spain.

  • no sound deddinig on that bad boy.

  • having ridden in a C-130, C-141, C-5 and C-17.. as long as the crew lets you stretch out and go where you want to go, I'll take the C-17 any day..

  • lol.

    where were you guys going?

  • wow i wonder how people can sleep in that plane its so loud

  • armyof2brothers, the C-5 galaxy is insulated on the inside the cabin so its not too loud. a former co-worker of mine who was in the airforce a long time ago said he flew on one. he said the flight wasn't too bad. i'd rather fly on a C-5 galaxy than fly on a non-insulated C-130 whereas its not only noisy as heck but can also be very cold.

  • yeah they are not bad at all, I rather ferry flights with em than get a commercial flight.

  • I flew on them as a crew chief and flight engineer and never did it without earplugs. Though it is insulated, the insulation is not very thick and it can be very loud inside.

  • Some claim that C-5s are already old birds, O.K......but in my humble opinion those are still the most beautiful planes in the world.

  • @DuncanLafayette cant be any older than 130's or b 52's lol

  • Isso que é aeronave! vc até ouver no som dos seus motores o barulho da foça motriz....! parabéns a vcs..... que pena que o BRASILZINHO só tem 2 C-130.....aff

  • the Pilot on left is very good at his Job concentrating on flying the plane. The guy on right is chatting up blonde hussy lol

  • Oh how amazingly lucky to be able to fly in the C5. I live near Stewart Airport and see them fly in/out quite a bit, but haven't been able to even see while parked. I would LOVE to visit and tour this plane. Just an amazing aircraft!

  • stewart is awesome i've been in their C-5 simulator...freakin sick

  • left okinawa japan in 1980 out of kadena airbase on a c5a, touched down in hawaii, only to land in california, total flight time was 9 hours. that's one big honk'n bird best flight i ever had during the entire time time I was in the military

  • With a plane that big, you'd think there'd be be just a leeeeeetle more room in the cockpit.

  • It is actually quite large in the cockpit.

  • لا يمكنك قراءة ها ها لان هذا باللغة العربية وليس

  • what he said...

  • he said he is a terrorist...

  • WRONG! You wrote

'' You can not read ha ha because this language is not Arabic ''

    Its called google translator.

  • I flew overseas in 1970 on a C5, didn't remember any windows. Maybe I'm confused with C141. Landing on the airbase in the Azores was cool-heckuva place to be stationed.

  • Were you on the lower cargo deck, or upper seating deck?

  • passengers are kept upstairs...you would know if your were in the cargo area..its massive :-P

  • I did not know US air force air hostesses had a red uniform. cool.

  • Comment removed

  • She's not part of the crew...this was probably a bosses ride where reservists invite their bosses for a flight on the C-5...we have them at Westover.

  • how did they manage this ? oh.. is that what I think it is on the pilots shoulder? Perhaps he is a bird colonel.. that would explain it.. great vid thanks for posting

  • Uhh bird colonel? It's an 0-5..Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force

  • Bird Colonel rank insignia is in the shape of a bird. That rank insignia on the pilot's shoulder is an oak leaf cluster which is either a Lieutenant Colonel (Silver cluster) or Major (Gold cluster). Since it was fabric and not metal, it was hard to tell which.

  • hah they reduce their concentration

  • was this an airline flight cause that is weird if it is

  • it's not its the air force

  • No. The C-5 has airline-like area up top.

  • If I was given a choice to fly aboard anything the Air Force has to offer, THIS would be my first choice... I would give almost anything to go on one of these!

  • You would choose a C-5 over an F-16, F/A18 or an F-22? Just go take a ride on a city bus and watch for the Corvette that passes you by.

  • ya, some people want hot food, room to stretch their legs, and a place to shit in on a 12 hour flight

  • You can do that stuff on the ground.

  • you missed the point completely... '12 Hour Flight" .....whole point being in the air

  • airlines would rather have transport pilots than fighters any day. Transports are sane and will not try and barrel roll a 757

  • its crazy loud inside, and sometimes very cold, the air conditioner dont work to good sometimes lol. you would love it! they are just amazing!.

  • i am the exact same way

  • Was this a special courtesy flight done out of Ohio for family or workers at the base?

  • what a mad ass plane, I just love that thing

  • this was definatley taken in fariborn ohio. Cause the new hanger was being built at the airport. And you flew over the street that i live on!

  • if this could be a commercial plane how many people could fit.

  • There are 73 seats in the troop compartment....if memory serves, it could hold over 300 downstairs if palletized seats are installed

  • Look at 1:42. He only has 2 and 3 engines above idle...Unusual.

  • They sometimes do that on descent or maintain airspeed....each pilot has there own method

  • Never knew that before...wouldn't have noticed it in the video either if I hadn't seen the comments

  • Sometimes it's necessary to split the throttles at lower cruise altitudes as well. Pilots are prohibited from setting power between 75-85% N1 and N2 due to old GE engines and vibration issues.

  • Actually the age of the engine has nothing to do with it. That is the transit area between the lower and higher power setting. Think of a top that is spinning fast and slowly losing speed....that area where it starts to go out of balance is similar to the 75-85% N1 range.

  • Ok Mr Engineer,

No other modern High-Bypass Turbo Fan has such a restriction.

  • Did you mean years age or design age? I was referring to the design age. The restriction has been there since it was designed.

  • I looked into the topic. GE engineers are looking to completely eliminate the "no zone" N1. This is mostly due to constant complaints of very difficult aerial refueling due to throttle restrictions. By the way, this is no "modern engine". This was the first high bypass turbofan ever developed.

  • Ok, my original point is that it is an old engine technology. The 75-85% limitation is for both N1 and N2. This is called the resonant range. AF publications require limited use of this range in order to extend engine life. This doesn't include periods when conducting AR. The AF is elimating the prob by replacing these old TF39D engines with new CF-6-80s. "Split Throttles" is a pain that I don't have to endure on my B777 that I fly now. Though,I did enjoy my 5400 hours of C5A/B.

  • awesome video!!! I wish I could fly in a C-5 or any military airplane for that matter. Thank you for sharing that video.
