Brett was the "lead" singer. But not the leader, the guitarist was, the guitarist did all the lyrics and everything. brett just sang them.

i know that but in this case ben is definitely the leader because he mentions that he writes every song at lest 12 drafts before the final version is finished he writes both instrumental and lyrical parts in every song you've ever heard by them he also sets up interviews and even helps manage the band on his own so yeah i'd call that a leader
