If you're talkin about the used to fill in the squares, it a nail art pen. If you're talking about the one to draw the lines, it's a unibal vision fine pen.

Great tutorial! I tried doing checkers on my nails for the Indy 500, but made a big mess. THEN I saw this--drawing the lines w/ ink pen 1st seems like a good idea.
