He did a usmash before he changed direction on the shellshift. Doing so will do a hydroplane going your original direction. Its a lot harder to do, but it goes a bit further.
before hand, when i play squirtle in a match, that how i lead off is with that hydro usmash.
seeing as that is me in this video, im not really sure if i was the first one to find that usmash tech out.
as a hint though, having push to jump turned on makes it dramatically easier, which would explain a few random jumps i did at the begining of this video.
