  • Great footage.I feel for the families of the pilots. They had the right stuff. You should check out my channel for the compilations i did to songs written about the F-104G star fighter. The music is from a band called "Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters. You will enjoy them.

  • I always feel sorry for that guy doing the Sabre dance. Tried so hard not to but lost in the end. What a way to go.

  • @mightaswellbe I had a documentory on the Sabre and first heard the term Sabre dance as it explained just how severe a low speed landing can be.The pilots had BALLS.Have you ever heard of the F-104G Starfighter?

  • When I was stationeed in West Germany, the West Germans were still flying the F-104. I swear....that is the loudest jet I was ever around!

  • Engine failed 9 Nov 62, forced Jack McKay, NASA pilot, to make an emergency landing at Mud Lake, NV, in second X-15, 56-6671. Landing gear collapsed, X-15 flipped over on its back. McKay was promptly rescued by an Air Force medical team standing by near the launch site, recovered to fly the X-15 again. During delivery of XB-70A-1 62-0001, from Palmdale, CA. to Edwards AFB, 21 Sept 64, the brakes on the main gear locked up, friction caused the tires and wheels to burn.

  • Aircraft shown in this video are (in sequence shown): Lockheed F-104A; Convair B-58A; North American X-15A; North American F-100C-20-NA, 54-1907, lost due to "Sabre Dance" wing stall on 10 January 1956; Martin XB-51, 46-686, lost on 9 May 1952, killing pilot Maj. Neil H. Lathrop; Vertol H-21; Ryan XV-5A, 62-4506, lost 5 October 1966, killing pilot Maj. David Tittle (chute did not open); Lockheed C-130A; Lockheed F-104 (short clip only); and North American XB-70A-1.

  • Great Videos thanx for posting!!

  • I must agree with Gaijin the Nostalgic feel suits this vid. Well done

  • They looked like lawn darts with tiny wings. You know, it brings to mind something... Some years ago, there was a movie, called Enemy Mine (science fiction). Dennis Quaid's character was forced to crach on an alien world. Interestingly, his ship resembled a 104 (and it was also called a "starfighter").

  • Well, the F-104 was known as one of the most dangerous fighters to its own pilots. Otherwise, good vid. I like the nostagic feel from all of these.
