  • Still delightfully hilarious after 64 years.

  • heard this song in fallout 3's in-game "galaxy news radio"!!!

  • who came here because of fallout?

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WANNA HEAR PEGGY LEE SING MAIRZY DOATS!!!! MY DAD USED TO BOX TO THAT SONG!

  • Actually I always thought the music choices in Fallout 3 was because these artist lived in an alternative universe in which they were born and active in year 2000 era instead of our time period early 20th century.

  • @hanchiman Hay If you want allot of info about every thing Fallout go to the Fallout Wiki. But i can give you something right now. WWII that's when the fallout time-line started to differ from our own. But at the core it was a 1950s view of the future where the Culture was of the 50s. All the design of the world is the 50s, but there is no "50s" people left all that we have now are people who are trying to survive in the American wasteland.

  • @terrorblades

I know about the 50 inspiration. As I mentioned in my previous post, I been wondering why they "use" music from musician who lived in 1950's in year 22XX, almost 200 years (plus 100 in "our" timeline) after the nuclear war. My theory is that say Lou Armstrong, Andrew Sisters, Bing Crosby etc etc lived in an "alternative universe" where they were active in year 20XX. Thus their music survived and we can't find any say "modern classics" like Beatles, Rolling Stones or Buddy Holly.

  • @terrorblades

p.s Also I know about the wiki :), (even contributed a few pointers in there too).

  • @hanchiman Nice!^^ good to know people from there are also here! ;D

  • @terrorblades

When I need to look up on reference of 50's culture I usually look at that wiki to check it out. Learned alot about 50's USA and how they view communism. Also they have a great walkthrough in there too. My other fave area is Nexus, as I prefer to mod my Fallout games.

  • @hanchiman Nice! I really like the fallout wiki is one of the best once i have been contributing for! And i have been seen allot of them! Oh! And if your looking for something that might be some fun reading then search or Rotface! In game it just costs you a cap and you'll get some juice Gossip!

  • @terrorblades

The other fave is Nexus forum where there are loads of Mods to "improve" the game.

  • Err Fallout 3 had only 40's music because it exists in an alternate timeline, not that they survived somehow

  • are me headphones busted. No its fucking youtube fucking muting some good fucking quality fucking music. Damn!

  • this is why we all need to get togeather and try to do something with the copyright people =\ but of course all us wil just keep complaning and do nothing =\

  • i thought they couldn't mute this kind of thing because dont contracts end with music in 50 years and since it's 2010 it should be ok to put out any song from 59's and below

  • @drsjohnny You're absolutely right. This is called "public domain". Unfortunately, when record companies buy other record companies, the also own all the rights to the music recorded on prior said companies' records. (like how WMG owns the rights to "Happy Birthday". This is an idiotic loophole in order for those fat cat record execs stay fat. And they wonder why so many people download music illegally.. It's not to save money, but to keep them from getting any.

  • this makes me want to pirate music cause youtube fucking mutes the shit i want to listen to. fuck you YOUTUBE your a bitch. your just a bastard from a basket.

  • @jhoe213141

Spite is an excellent motivator. It's possible to do billions of dollars in damages in mere days with the proper motivation.

Wait a minute, I can simply buy a used copy of the record, and the copyright holders will receive no money for the exchange. Why, the same can be done with all read-only materials!

Well heck, I solemnly swear that Universal will not receive my business, and I will actively convince others to join such a simple cause, since all they produce is trash anyway.

  • @jhoe213141

Bastard from a basket? Sorry for replying to an old comment, but I just had to. Now what the fuck? Bastard from a basket. Now that's funny.

  • @FrizzleFry117 yeah i know i was watching there will be blood

  • Fuck yeah. Records are the only way to go.

  • FUCK YOU YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As if... WTF this song mustve been danced to by the cavemen

  • Why the hell they don't let people listen to this song? They can't make any profit out of it anyway, so WTF?! I so hate copyrights and assholes who piss people off with them just because they can! I'm voting for the Pirate Party on the next election!

  • Au contraire, mate. They can and they make profit out of it. Compared to the crap that they throw us to swim in, songs such as this are eternal. But yes, I agree. It'll be nice if one can listen to it. I doubt that the last living of the Andrew Sisters, who's in her 90s, makes any profit out of all the sales. But as we know the music industry fakes its concern for the artists. Money is all that matters no matter what the artists want.

  • OF course. The best thing we can do is not support this bullshit. Stop buying records form people that make shitty songs. Hell, stop downloading/pirating this crap in the first place. Put music back in the hands of independent artists, and music will revert back to the way it sounded in the old days (that would be good with artistic merit), Nowadays its about maximizing sales and minimizing studio time, and producing shit.

  • @LocalSpambot yh, did u ever c the film "the boat that rocked"? they should bring back radio stations like that.

  • fallout 3

  • FFS, if these motherfuckres dont earn pennies per song then they spazz out and censor eny and everything. Just fuck off, i'll find it elsewhere UMG. :(

  • just download a copy of "Fallout3" soundtrack with this included.Simple.

  • Wow, those people piss me off. We obviously know it's not YOUR song, why do they need to take it away from everyone, you can't even purchase this song anymore so really it makes no sense!

  • I think it is only fair that these greedy copyright-holders have to issue the material, if they forbid collectors to share the music.

  • Universal music group are greedy fucking bastards

  • o my god! im deaf! i cant here anything! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • There is no sound.

  • why isnt there any sound

  • because youtube is doing gay and muted the song from cpoyright get used 2 it sorry:(

  • umg copyrighted it ....Fu****s...

  • Excuse me but Just because of that game i bought a record player and Several records from Bobby Darin, Danny kaye, The ink spots, And Bob Crosby. So why dont we Give the song its well deserved credit. And plus You should thank the game for converting a thirteen year old to buying a record player.

  • is it just me or have i gone deaf?

  • People think these songs were made for the game? Honestly? Can't be very smart people, then.

  • I didn't know if they were at first, so I read the credits.

    Love this song.

  • @Ryomoto dont be so cruel... Gamers dont know old music (because they're young), and it's a good thing that new games make people discover other kinfs of music (especially good music like this)

  • I love this from Fallout, Btw it's 62 years old so I don't know where you expect the others to have heard about it. Still, It's too bad about... wait a minute, Just record a video Of FO3 where your standing in place listening to this LOL.

If you feel so inclined as to responde with a "Why don't you", I simply have no camara

  • Maybe, I don't think so though look at the trends, record companies are loosing money, the musicians are switching to making their money from touring. We don't need the record companies to manufacture new artists they can be by passed now days.

  • how very very anal of this music corp, and you wonder why you can't get me to buy your music any more, reason, I hate your guts and want to see you go out of business, because of actions like this, enjoy your extinction scum bags.

  • yeah what a good idea...thew music industry going out of buisness THAT MEANS FREE MUSIC...no that means Less Music And Worse Music

  • With some sound, people might get excited about this song and others like it but... copyright... yeah right. hmmm, let's just shoot ourselves in the foot.

  • where is the sound

  • The Universal Music Group toke it away, still under copyright shit.

  • That's a shame they've pulled the sound, its a really good song.

I am one of those people who came across this song via Fallout3, but whilst playing the game I knew that the songs played on GNR were real songs from the 40-50's!

I've actually got the soundtrack to the game now, and inbetween listening to my usual metal bands, I'm listening to the likes of Danny Kaye, the Inkspots and Roy Brown, all thanks to a game that is almost 70+ years ahead of their time!

  • same thing with me!

  • same here

  • comments like "ZOMG I HEARD THAT IN FALLOUT 3" are kinda annoying.

  • question...what happens if you don't personally mute the sound? do they do it for you?

if so, why not just keep making spams of the videos, whats the worse they will do? ban your account? to bad its free to make another....

be sweet if they took ya to court, that way ya could get publicity and make them look like stupid fucks for copyrighting a song that was made so long ago

  • Zefrenm- Good guess on your PS Summary, In fact, thats what i was thinking well playing

But in truth, the Fallout universe is just that...the fallout universe, its exactly the same as ours, up until i think about WW2 or so...then humanity made great leaps in technology, well their media and commercialism stayed the same

That is why you can listen to this song, well blasting robots in fallout 3

  • My favv!!!! track for the radio on fallout 3!!!

  • By muting the sound on this they are keeping a piece of our countries musical history from some, companies that do this really do deserve to be shunned more for trying to own such historical things. Imagine if they put a curtain around the Statue of Liberty and charged a fee to look at it, that is what WMG has done, and as a people we should rip it done and cram it down their throats. The freedom to know our history should never be impeded by anyone, and I would gladly fight to keep it that way

  • dam copyright nice acetato de 78

  • I don't believe any "youngsters" believe the songs featured in Fallout 3 were written for that game. For one thing it's an M-rated game, intended for ages 17+ and I'm positive that any young people over 17 are competent enough with computers to do a little research on the songs they enjoy. Either way, I'm so glad that game came out and introduced 40's music to a whole new generation. I personally had been delving farther and farther back on my own after becoming tired of current music.

  • I have fallen in love with the 40s because of being introduced to it by Fallout 3. I've found a bunch of old records in my house from the 30s, 40s, and 50s that I play all the time now :D

  • im jealous :( me 2

  • Check out the audio version on my Channel.

  • I Have a copy of this, it has a crack but it still plays. Great song, like the flipside, "Bread and Butter Woman" too

  • Bastards...how dare they...

  • WTF YT took the music down? Pricks god damnit i hate when they do this shit.ill still give you 5 stars for the effort.

  • Oh sure, mute good music.

But when it comes to shitty music, like rap, that doesn't get muted.

    Yeah. Fantastic.

    Golf claps all 'round.

  • truer words have never been spoken, my hat is off to you

  • For the most part it is. There is some good rap, but very little. So little that you can generalize the whole genre as bad.

  • They're so much good rap out their, it may not be your favorite genre, and thats your opinion, but it doesn't mean its okay to classify it as shitty. I happen to love rap, and could name millions of good raps. I agree that rap music that coming out recently by artist like Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy aren't that good (but again thats my opinion) but I could name millions of good raps, great raps.

  • I heard ONE good one. It was a mix of techno and rap.

Didn't hear any references to 'hoes and bitches' or 'fohties' was actually fairly good.

  • I so want to give the bird to wmg and tell 'em to climb it.Stupid fucking idiots

  • Oh Warner... yeah, those douchebags can go suck a lemon.

Especially that dbag that got a law making the royalties last for generations.

More than what makes sense, like the singer's direct grandchildren. When it gets to the grandchildren's children it gets... kind of sad really.

  • FUCK YOU JEWTUBE

  • no audio?

  • y can't i hear anythin?

  • to be perfectly honest I didn't know they were real I just assumed since they fit the game so perfectly they were made for the game but upon realizing they were real I have a newfound respect for early 20th century music ^^.

  • The audio has obviously been removed as per copyright laws.

  • gotta be careful... advertisement will get their attention and it might be muted.

  • I can't believe that people think these songs where made for fallout 3, but I do understand the "I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire" song though, it fits the game so perfictly.

  • awesome video, love the silence through the whole thing. great song too. loved listening to it on your video.

  • it's just like that pootie tang song!

  • no audio...

  • These record companies have really screwed up big time....

  • wheres the audio?

  • I've always love music from this era, but when I hear these songs on Fallout 3 (sorry but its a good game), I did backflips. Now I listen to GNR all the time :)

  • Same here. Fucking love Andrew Sisters and The Inkspots.

  • Clarification: The song is about a man in Africa, looking at western civilization, concluding that its horrible compared to the life he is living, hence he wants to stay in the Congo and not go to Europe or the USA... Nothing racist about it, its satire of western civilization and NOT African natives...

  • exactly.

  • Ok kids, this song is not racist.. Its about a native person in congo looking at civilization concluding that he doesnt want to go there because he thinks that the life he lives seems much better... If there is ANYTHING racist about it its that it discriminates against the "white civilization" in the western world, a world full of atom bombs, people getting hit by cars, landlords collecting rent, shotguns and noise pollution...

Calling this song racist, ironically enough, makes you a racist :p

  • This song isnt racist anyone offended is retarded

  • How is it racist?

  • are you kidding me listen to all the stereo types and things in the song

  • That's not racist. Sure it stereotypes those civilizations but it doesn't discriminate on RACE.

  • EXCEPT THAT THEY SAY I DONT WANT TO LEAVE THE KONGO! lol

which is a country in Africa there fore they're talking about african civilization

  • You are a damn fool, the song is admiring the way they live in simplicity and is satirical at how westerners call themselves civilized.

  • Shit, dudes - every time I'm hearing music from the 40's I'm looking for some super mutants and asking myself why the hell all the houses in the neighborhood still standing??? Frickin' cool game and frickin' good music!!!

  • just take this vid down man,its a tease

  • Oh shi, I hate UMG, copyrasts is their name.

  • Wow, and UMG wonders why everyone hates their guts. Way to fail, guys.

  • Great bit of trivia in the info column

  • Sad, how can someone/some company hold copyright that long? But excellent music. Fallout 3 actually introduced me to those songs from the 40's.

  • why i hear nothing?

  • why you not read?

  • its been banned from youtube

  • My video still has the audio- I think because I'm in Australia & the USA laws don't apply :)

  • Lolz, kinda way to put records here: to have a friend somewhere in China, for example :) But I suppose since youtube's servers are located in the US, all content on them falls within the purview of law. :( So we must listen to these only in our beds having a blanket on our head - that's where it could go.

  • Comment removed

  • heard this song from Fallout 3

  • 2067???? eso es estupido

  • The entertainment companies bought off Congress to change those copyright laws. The final joke is on them - they're dying anyway, and the vast bulk of this old product doesn't pay anybody's bills.

  • ok mr. record how is the sound quality?

  • Put the audio back and host the video somewhere else, youtube has long become the entertainment cartels' bitch.

  • WTF!!!

  • why not sound????

  • Read the description.

  • Its a real shame

  • You can just rip the audio track off of your Fallout 3 game disc. Heck, i paid and own the audio track just like most of you, just move it and change it to your desired audio format. btw, Universal Music Group blows and I would go OUT of my way to not purchase anything licensed to them.

  • OMFG AGAIN R U SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I cant hear a damn thing.

  • I think the record company is very selfish and unwise in mutting this kind of songs.

People who post it on the net - meet the demands of the songs. This particular song is now sought after by a gaming (Fall out 3) generation who probably never heard of them before. And discover that they actually LIKE the music for various reasons. So bring the song out again.... I mean Bethesda and old record companies could distribute the soundtrack for own profit and meet the demand of the public.

  • As I see it, the reason for the 40-50's music in the game is that the setting is based on the sci-fi of the 40's era. That would mean that they can't use songs created in our reality after that period of time.

Just look at the art in the game, it's all got a touch of the 40's with a sci-fi twist.

They would probably have stored the music on holodisks as they seem to store all type of media on those. And obviously that media could survive the bombs.

  • ... actually, the Fallout universe backstory is that the world was retro in the 2070s, when the bombs dropped. Who knows what happened in the interim, unless Interplay or Bethesda have explained it and I hadn't seen, or I've otherwise forgotten. As far as I'm concerned right now, though, the world went on as history has written, but between now and when the bombs dropped, the world went retro.

  • Okay, I looked back, and people explained it was more of an alternate reality, and it made a bit more sense... anyway, I will say one thing in response to all of this about Three Dog's collection: He says, "It is I, Three Dog, your friendly neighborhood disc jockey! What's a disc? Hell if I know, but I'm gonna keep talking anyway." ... so whatever format the music is in, it is not in a disc-shaped format. That includes vinyl/shellac records, which were the origin of the term DJ, right?

  • The record companies are a pain in the ass.

I guess if they don't want people to listen to their music and enjoy it then that is there stupid problem.

  • I don't get why the RIAA is such a bitch about it compared to the movie and game industries.

  • Exactly.

    It doesn't make any sense.

  • Especially when you consider what goes into a song compared to what goes into a game or movie. Games need coding, an engine, art assets, testers, etc. and usually take like a year or more to make; movies need directors, writers, actors, lighting, costumes, makeup, special FX, all kinds of other stuff and they almost always take at least a year or two before finishing.

What the hell goes into music that there has to be such retardedly strict rules regarding distribution?

  • im imagining that the grandparents maybye of danny kayes are claiming royalties for the song as it is now becoming more popular

  • grandkids...

  • *snigger

  • i was on buying the cd, but now...never^^if they are so greedy thea should figure out, whta "CILVILSATION" does with such strategies^^

  • That post script was insanely enlightening.

  • Hah, thank you for the post script, that actually made my day :D.

Though I think it's possible that Fallout 3 just made this song more popular, and made Warners Music more conscious that it would be pirated.

I hope they don't mute any more of your videos.

  • those stupid copyright laws

  • Muted due to copyright laws?

Okay, seriously, this track is older than my grandparents. Who the hell could still be making a profit off of this song?

  • Bethesda. Fallout 3.

  • copy right laws are out after 50 years mate

  • Assholes.

  • The music was removed because the copyright holders asked him too... sux really, although youtube is doing this to a lot of videos that aren't held by the offical copyrightee.

From the VIDEO DESCRIPTION: "So any record company that posesses these 78 RPM Masters can ask for these videos to come down. Thats is why there is no longer audio."

  • ...so why in the hell is this video even still up for? What on Earth is the point?

  • less of a pain in the butt to take it down, i guess

  • To inform people about the song and where it comes from for those looking for it, and to add interesting tidbits about the lore and reasoning behind the 1950's era music playing in Fallout.

  • yeah, i'm not getting any sound either.

  • should there be music playing?

  • such a great song, i love the quality of it even on youtube! usually songs just don't sound this good!

  • I think the music remove by youtube

  • If the music had been removed by youtube they would of put a special notice informing everyone of that. I've seen other videos where they have that notice on them. This video is just technical difficulties.

  • NO SOUND

  • Why isn't it playing any music?

  • I love this music. Its great that its coming back in such a way. I hope more of these old songs come back from the past.

If your hungry for more, check out a song called "Deep in a dream" by helen forest.

  • Dear Universal,

I know it's important that you keep collecting revenue for this song so that Danny Kaye can keep getting paid and producing hits. Y'know, after dying in the 80s. But do you see no value at /all/ in the public domain?

Hell, I bet you would be extorting royalties from high schools for their Shakespeare productions, if only you could talk Congress into letting you buy the rights.

  • Spot on.

  • No sound?

  • read the descrip

  • Wonderful information in the tab section, Zef. I was kind of wondering why they only played 40's music on the game (but was definitely not complaining). Nice to know the actual reason now (:

Even though you had to take down the audio, thanks for the attempting to upload it. I'll be sure to check out some of your other uploads, since I'm really starting to get into the 40's now because of Fallout 3.

It's funny enjoying the same songs my great grandparents did. They think I'm crazy, haha. 5*'s!

  • Hello America. This is your President, John Henry Eden.

I've learmed there's a criminal out there in the Capital Wasteland who seems to have some doubts about the character of my Presidency. This "Three Dog" calls me a dicatator and a tyrant.

My fellow Americans, nothing could be further from the truth. Me and the Enclave are doing everything in our power to restore America to greatness. However, some unfortunate measures are necessary.

Until next time, America. this is John Henry Eden.

  • No Sound!!!

  • Damn copyright laws. The people enjoy the music, why not spread it in an inconvenient form?

Although, it will always make its way illegally to other mediums... well, that happens anyway.

  • um did the music get removed because of copy rights because i only her fuz...

  • CDs would not be wiped out in a nuclear blast (provided they don't melt). They use light reflection to store bits of data not magnetic bits. The only problem would be the players, but I don't see how a record player would survive and not a CD.

  • Combat shotgun BANG Super mutant dead

  • Damn it, why is my right to get be entertained without paying for it being hampered by the stupid lawful owners!

This is why I'm chaotic *grumble grumble*

  • Um, music please? Can't hear it and speaker is on max, so is youtube volume

  • Music was removed due to the song still being under copyright.

    GG Universal.

  • I came here because of Fallout 3 :)

  • Fallout 3 rules!

  • TUNNEL SNAKES RULE

  • okay i posted a new video using a needle and a sonic drink cup. maybe the quality will be in a way that Universal won't take it down

  • Not fucking likely.

God, my entire favorites list has been destroyed.

Oh well, time for some active hooliganism. Free UMG music for everyone I see for the next eight months. The best part? It's all anonymous media gifting in the real world! HAHAHA NO INTERNET TRAFFIC TO MONITOR.

  • I first heard the song in Fallout 3, but anyone would be an idiot not to mark it as genuine very-early Cold War-era stuff. Great song.
