You hear all the GOP talk about getting back to the principles of Ronald Reagan , but it was Reagan who engineered the greatest redistribution of wealth than any other President. He lowered taxes on the top 5% earners from 70% to 50% and then 28% but in doing so he raised the social security tax from 7.5% to 15% for all those making $100k or less. He took away interest deductions on credit cards and extended AMT from businesses to apply to individuals which effectively was a tax hike.

If go back and watch the full clip of Obama answering "Joe the Plumber's" question he answered it very logically and explained that small businesses get a tax break on providing health insurance benefits and those making less than $250k get a tax break. That seems to have gone in one ear and out the other.
