  • what's the point of that video if they don't show them fishing?

  • hello friends... Im Isuru from Sri Lanka. Recently a fishing cat was hit by a vehicle in front of my home. It was dead. So sad for him. I have photos of it with me. but the good news is that their numbers are increasing compared to past. But i really want to care for them.. i love these wild cats... I like to join a club or somthing...

  • @isuruak That's too bad, I'm glad their numbers are increasing but I find this unlikely if their habitat is being destroyed and they're being forced to cross roads etc...?

  • There is nothing wrong with people a responsible exotic animal owner. As long as you take care of the animal and give it a good life, what is so wrong with that? Fishing Cats are related to Leopard Cats, Rusty Spotted Cats, and Flat Headed Cats. I think it is great that you rescue exotic cats! I don't agree with your philosphy on owning exotic animals, but I would always like to help with rescue.

  • i wanted to see him catch a fish.... i hope they throw one in for every meal so he can stay true to his name.

  • Handsome beasts. There is a website with images of a pet fishing cat doing various things. Ripping a chicken apart, in a bath of water that contains a catfish, cleaning a domestic cat. .englishrussia.dotcom/2009/07/05/russian-pet/

  • 1:50 hahaha he splashed you!

  • It's a shame the habitats of these wild animals are dissappearing, while nature parks may preserve/ensure the continued survival of small numbers of these creatures i think its really sad that one day, in the not too distant future, most countries will no longer have a wilderness. It will be a world of towns, villages and farmlands, because the worlds populations keep growing.

  • @BVargas78 Indeed. We are living at the end of a golden age when the diversity of animals was still very great. The newly wealthy will want their swimming pools and their burgers just like the rest of us Even if we protect the pressured species their health will suffer because of the shrinking genetic diversity. I admire the wild cats and feel saddened that their time here may be over before this century ends.

  • in the little pond do they actually have fish

  • CAT U ASSHOLE! Y U NO EAT REGULAR CAT FOOD LIKE EVERYONE ELSE?!

  • AAhh evolution is quite a wonderful thing ... except for centipedes. I can't stand centipedes.

  • I love cats and I admire your effort!! Keep going!! Greets from poor Hellas...

  • a million years from Now,if these cats dont die, we will have Cat Seals

  • wow they sure love water,my cat can go psycho when she touch only a drop of water

  • I love the sound it made at 2:12 ish. Am I crazy for thinking the Fishing Cat has a cute face?

  • I love the sound it made at 2:15 ish. Am I crazy for thinking the Fishing Cat has a cute face?

  • Technical problems? Got the advertisement, but not the video. It's a shame; I see commercials all the time. Exotic cats? Not so much.

  • oh thanks fpr the answer, that i wanted to know^^

    PS Happy new Year ;)

  • thanks for upping all the vids.

ive got a question, cause i wonder that you have a fishcat.

i thought that theyre number are under 2000. so where do you got these?

have you a breeding program for them?

  • @schneeschaaf Aquarius the fishing cat came from a broker, we do not breed at Big Cat Rescue as this would be adding to the problem of big cats living in cages :)

  • @BigCatRescue The fishing cats my new fave animal :)

  • @BigCatRescue I'm really curious about the role zoos play in preservation of species. I know they work hard to breed animals and say that their goal is to raise awareness and raise population sizes. What are your thoughts on this?

  • I'm from Sri Lanka, As I think I had both the fishing cat & the leopord cats as domestic cats, Unfortunatly both male cats go wild once they hit adulthood. But as what I have heard back in Sri Lanka, the Fishing cat is a bit larger than the leopord cat

  • @tombee2 We're always looking for able volunteers, if you visit our website: BigCatRescue*org you will find more information :) We will try and do a spotlight on the leopard cats in the future!

  • @tombee2 Leopard cats are related to the fishing cat, we may do a spotlight sometime in the future :)

  • Looks like the Fishing Cat at the 1:42 mark needs to go fat-free for a bit hahaha. Plump sum-bitch :)

  • @lockdown494 They're semi retractable so they are always visible to a point :)

  • looks like godzilla lol

  • are they dangerous to humans?

  • @Viking790 I am sure they can be dangerous to humans like any other wild animal.we are getting some of these too in our zoo.

  • are they dangerous to humans?

  • @Viking790 Sure, all wild cats species can be potentially dangerous to humans, but I've never heard of any attacks by this species, they would rather hide from people than attack.

  • @BigCatRescue How much fish do these cats eat a day?

  • @Lizbeth224 We don't actually feed them fish! They didn't really eat them and preferred the diet we fed to the other cats at bCR :) ???

  • @BigCatRescue

    No, they're deffinitly fisher cats.

  • @italianguidettebaybeAs others already have written, you’re thinking of the FISHER, which is a completely different animal, that some people call the "Fisher Cat".

The fishing cat is a cat species that ONLY lives in Asia, and nowhere else. The “fisher” is not a cat, but a marten. It does not resemble the fishing cat in any way.

  • Nice Cat

  • low life hunters 10 year later there will be no wildcats or wolves i bet who agrees?

  • fucking hunter 10 year later there will be no wildcats or wolves i bet who agrees?

  • Fisher cats don't JUST live in Asia. There are tons in my town and I live in New England

  • Fisher Cats do not live only in Asia. They live in New England and are VERY common. They're in my backyard and neighbors yard all the time at night and their yell is annoying. Fisher Cats were like the coyotes of the south to my town, as a kid I was told if I strayed to far on a walk (especially at night) that I'd be attacked by a fisher cat.

  • @italianguidettebaybe You must be mistaking the fishing cat with the bobcat maybe?

  • @italianguidettebaybe You are confusing fisher cats (which are not real cats but related to wolverines) for fishing cats (the cat in this video).

  • @italianguidettebaybe That's a different critter completely. The fisher cat (not the fishing cat) is a very large weasel that was introduced to New England by lumber companies because it preyed on porcupines (porcupines damage trees).

Now imagine how mean an animal must be if it prefers to eat porcupines rather than something else. That's a fisher cat, and it's the nastiest thing on 4 legs.

  • @italianguidettebaybe ya, i just thought of that. these things are fishING cats.. fishERS what we got are long sliky brown things a hughe bushy tail

  • you guys are not against owning cats because you lie about were you get them most of those cats are pets that carol Baskin and her husband bought!

  • @Evasayshi123 We are against privately owning big cats....true our founder did own a bobcat in the early 90's then went on to rescue 56 bobcat and lynx kittens from a fur farm and that's how BCR started. We also paid to rescue cats out of bad situations to begin with but we have evolved and stopped doing this realizing that we were just fueling the trade in these cats as "pets" so now when we rescue big cats we make the owners sign and agreement saying they'll never own a big cat again :)

  • @BigCatRescue is it normally called Fishing cat? or does it have a real name?

  • id fire my dog ! heard those types of cats are better protectors ! LOL

  • I didnt know fishing cats were wild

  • how much does cost?

  • We have no idea, people buying and owning wild cats is something we are against.

  • oh I didn't know.were you work at I wish I worked with animal. I love animals!! especially cats

  • @BigCatRescue easy for you to say as you get to work with them every day, though.

  • @BigCatRescue I know someone who owns two of them in france but he has a super large garden with a mini lake filled with fish. And believe me they are both healthy, happy and they live as free as any wildcat. I'd love to own one to assure it lives since they're becoming rare. So maybe arnstrong wants one for the same reason.

  • @unreals500 A large garden doesn't compare to the wild, no matter how you look at it they are better off in the wild.

  • @unreals500 Buying and owning a fishing cat won't stop the species from becoming extinct, cats that are bred in the species survival plan are pure genetically. Owning exotic cats as "pets" does nothing for the species of any WILD cat and the people who do own them make others want to go out and do the same thing unfortunately :(

  • That little guy wasn't backing down at all.

  • I only hard of fishing cats when I was 6 years old, & now I know a little more thanks to Big Cat Rescue.

  • You can imagine him sitting on the banks with a fishing pole haha. Cool cat though.

  • Its so cute! In fact, all cats are cute! I'm planing to be a big cat expert when i'm old enough

  • @nintendoplaya96 pay attention in science class

  • showing my support from texas. :)

  • Those eyes are really awesome O_O

  • awesomely unique species, great to see someone preserving nature... is this the smaller breed? i hear the ones in pakistan and india are larger.

  • Thanks, we're doing our best! I believe there is only one species of fishing cat? :)

  • What a beautiful cat. But then, ALL cats are gorgeous. THANKS to BCR for protecting and advocating for them.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Fishing Cat´z FTW x333

  • Fishing cats are very cute.

  • Perhaps there should be a humourous as well as educational cartoon (or movie) featuring a fishing cat character (if not already produced or in production) to bring more attention to this species of feline in order to keep it from extinction. With donations going toward the conservation and preservation of fishing cats. Just a thought.

  • oh cool thnx

  • so are they the only type of cat that likes water?

  • No tigers and jaguars like the water too, other species like lion cross paths of water if they have to, but generally stay away from it, tigers on the other hand can swim up to 20 miles a day searching for prey/mate/territory!

  • They're cute!

  • The 'meow' he says at 2:15 is so cute! i love cats, any and all kinds and they need to survive.

  • I was in Sri Lanka recently.

A fishing Cat was captured and brought to the zoo after it had been attacking goats.

This is one powerful cat for its size.

Why it would go after such large land prey is a mystery

  • This animal is legendary for its ferocity. One supposedly fought off a leopard in India

  • That's a case of little and large :) When was this supposed to have taken place?

  • The leopard incident was written by a man named 'Champion' during Colonial times in India (Book named 'jungle in sunlight and shadow').

  • Thanks, I'll have to look that up :)

  • I read an article about a Russian couple having one along with their house cat, it looked pretty friendly with everybody, bathing in the bathtub, eating fresh fish and fowl.

Search engine:" fishing+cat+russia" and you'll find it.

  • That's pretty scary to know, our fishing cats would rather hiss at you and escape back to the privacy of their den!

  • is legal keep this felin in a private homepark?

  • Hi, what do you mean by homepark?

  • i live in Italy in a duty with a park of beyond 5 hectares, I adore the felines (I have 8 cats, 3 ocelot [6 when the female give birth the two kittens], 2 serval and 1 leopardo) and I asked myself if this animal, that it seems to be in danger of extintion, can be held in captivity

  • The fishing cat is an endangered species, so they should only be held by accredited zoos or sanctuaries. Are you open to the public, so they can view your cats?

  • sure, even if not for mean of payment. They are in " Saint Marino" (a small independent republic in Italy center you know it?), where the special laws concur to hold animals of the sort. The felines (with the exception of the cats :-)) are all states saved from Circuses or private Collections

  • Oh right, no I'm not familiar with Saint Marino, do many people own big cats as "pets" in Italy this is a huge problem in the USA?

  • the phenomenon of the great cats as animals from company are diffusing themselves also here, in the Italy north (to the south has problems very more serious ehehe). In Italy the laws are much strict on this, while to Saint Marino it is possible to hold them in house under a special action of General Supremo, the head of the state. Thus I have decided to adopt some. It would appeal to me to hold also of the lions, but the space would not be sufficient

  • Where did you get your cats from? Is there breeders over there that breed for the "pet" trade like in america, if so that's sad news to hear.

  • ah excuse but my English is much uncertain one: -) The rich persons and the circuses directly buy the felines from hunters and africans smugglers make who them to arrive through the Mediterranean (L' Italy is rather near of North Africa). Unfortunately the traffics are in increase and the Police does not block them. Mine adored animals, instead, is all taken from circuses that wanted to be unravelled some or from private.

  • Oh, it's good to hear that the breeding of these cats for the pet trade isn't a problem where you are. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching our videos!

  • i have this book that explanes a lot about cats so some of these i dont learn a lot but this and the sand cat i learnd a lot i want to work there someday i already know a lot about cats

  • AMAZING! I had never heard of them beforwe watching this video. Thank-you so much for the information! You guys are doing an wonderful job. Keep it up!

  • Thanks for watching, glad it was useful to you :)

  • I live in jakarta...At a park here there is a small leopard cat that looks just like this but smaller and it loves water....they have a bowl for it filled with water and it sleeps in the water up to its neck. it also poo's in the water i guess to hide its scent?

  • Yeah probably a lot of our tigers poop in their pools then go lie down in them afterwards, what you gonna do!?

  • Awesome cat. Since its from Asia, let me guess ppl eat them?

  • Do these babycats eat any meat other than seafood?

  • We actually feed our fishing the cat the same diet as the rest of our cats, which will be chicken and our zoo carnivore prepared diet we call "mush", then they get whole rats once a week, then we make enrichment for them like frozen treats called chickcicles and sardini martini, they love these!

  • and i grew up thinking ALL cats hated the water

    lol

  • Nope there are a few species, fishing cat, tiger and jaguar who like the water! Thanks for watching!

  • check out my vids, "cat having a bath", my cat does not mind the water at all, & my cats placid nature & size reminds me alot of the fishing cat!

  • Comment removed

  • Fishing Cats are in the Genus Prionailurus where as Domestic Cats are in the Genus Felis. There would be a few complications in breeding. Not only that but Fishing Cats are extremely powerful and aggressive!! There was one instance where a large male Fishing Cat in a zoo escaped in the neighboring leopard enclosure and killed the leopard!

  • I've noticed that many of the wild cat species have white spots on their ears. Why is that?

  • These are called "flashes" which serve as a focus point for cubs or kittens especially in low light conditions.

  • Can I adopt one of these as a pet? They're so cute!

  • You can sponsor our fishing cat, but these cats really make bad "pets" people soon realise this when they, spray all over their house, cost a fortune to feed and don't want to be picked up and petted all the time!

  • I've heard they're rather aggressive for their size, as well.

  • From my experience with our fishing cat, she would rather run away and hide than be aggressive, but all cats can be aggressive if they want to be!

  • Very true.

  • please don't. These animals belong in the wild. Why don't you just sponsor one of these cats instead?

  • In that body of water, do you stick it with fish?

If so, is it possible to donate money with the intent of restocking?

  • Hi, there are some fish in the pond but the fishing cat doesn't really bother with them and eats the same diet as the other cats at BCR. I f you would like to donate anyway you can visit our website bigcatrescue*org, Thanks!

  • Believe it or not, My wife's from Russia and her friends found one of these cats hiding in their van after returning from a camping trip in the mountains. They adopted it and has become a beloved member of their family. It sleeps with their regular house cat and acts like they are siblings even though it probably could eat it since it's about 3x as big. It loves to take baths!! I have pics if you want to see,,Crazy!!!

  • post pics

  • Yes, we want to see your pics! What are you waiting for? thanks

  • Believe it or not, My wife is from Russia and her friends went camping a couple years back and one of those cats jumped in their van and hid under the seat, when they got home they discovered it and kept it. Now it is a beloved pet and loves to go in the bathtub, and it loves their regular house cat like a sibling, even though it is about 3x as big LOL. Crazyy!!!, If you don't believe me I have pics!!

  • I've seen your pics, they're awesome. ^__^

  • I never heard of that cat before. It's beautiful. Thanks.

  • i support turds on your face

  • you suk cat fag

  • Dude??? U need counselling

  • Truly beautiful animal.

  • It's too bad the quality of this vid is so low! Please re-encode it! I wanna see your fishing kitty without all the blocks :) I'll share this with my other animal lover friends!

  • I love cats

  • I can has Filet-O-Fish?

  • This is great what you're doing and all but, why was this on the front page of digg...

  • We have fishing cats at our zoo.

  • They are cool cats, what zoo are you talking about?

  • The Memphis zoo.

  • I just went on the website it looks like a cool zoo, hope to visit one day...

  • Yes, it is very nice. The cats used to live in cages, but now they are in big habitat areas, roming about. I hope none ever escape, because I live near the zoo.

  • we had one in punjab pakistan

  • Il gatto pescatore...Non è una meraviglia? : )

  • I was doing a cryptogram which turned out to say,

The cat is merely proof that not everything in nature has a function.

I thought that was terrible. :'(

What is the cat's function--besides looking beautiful and giving me pleasure when I look at one?

  • As with all predators at the top of the food chain their main function is to seek out and kill the weakest animals from their prey base, making sure that all the animals that survive are the strongest.

  • You'll find that any predatory animal has a major function in an ecosystem, often things rather odd. It was found a lack of bears eating salmon has a major affect on soil nutrients in certain forest systems of north america. (bear eats salmon, drops carcass on floor, plants grow better) =)

  • Thats funny! You learn something new everyday!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • :( aww... poor kittah.

I wanna save all the fishing kittahs, they're so wonderful to watch in the wild...

  • This splendid creature later will be free in his home or must stay all the life in that enclosure?

  • selvatico3, unfortunately our fishing cat will spend the remainder of its life living in a cage. Aquarius came to Big Cat Rescue as a result of the pet trade in exotic cats. When people stop buying big cats as pets and realise what a bad idea it is there will be less cats left living in cages. Thanks for watching!

  • Will you using Aquarius for breeding purposes? With other zoo's

  • they do look like otters

  • Well, this is one of those hell-freezing moments, seeing a cat that likes water. Also a beautiful animal, to boot.

  • Good luck protecting these beautiful cats!

  • another good hunter

  • awesome cats ^__^

  • they look very much like a domestic cat..only wilder. I love cat.

  • Kamuisky, did you know that Fishing Cats have webbed paws?

  • would it fight me if i accidentaly fell down beside it and startled it. because sometimes my mom does that. i wonder if this cat is any different from that. also if i wanna purchase one aren't they like a few thousand dollars? thats kay-ray-zee

  • i dont think you should buy one... arnt they meant to be wild?

  • Fanatsiaslip, you are correct. They are wild cats and should not be bought as pets.

  • OMG 2:16 MOW!!!!!!

  • fishing cats rule. at my house you have to close the bathroom door. i own a tabbyish fishing cat

  • they look very similar to the bob cat

  • never heard of such a cat please keep the info coming beautiful species

  • fishing cats dont get along with other species of cat. theyve been known to kill other wildcats that had been placed in the same enclosure.

  • thank you Big Cat Rescue

  • 5 Stars again keep it up great job your doin

  • he seems more like a small panther than a domestic cat... such a wonderful creature!

  • Thank you for the very informative video!

    Enjoyed it!

  • that way kambas is near my home town, really miss that place so much

  • I'd love to own one of these and have as my pet, but these cats would be disturbed from their natural environment and breeding process. They are so cute though =/.

  • wow soo cool !!!

  • Fishing cats are just too cool. Have you ever seen Trials of Life by the way? On the Hunting and Escaping episode, there's an AMAZING sequence of wild fishing cats in India fishing at a still pool.

  • wonderfully given! it looks like a common cat except for his ears

  • Way to go Scott and Brian!!! I LOVE the Big Cat Rescue Specie Spotlight!! Thanks guys for the great info!!
