AHHHH...THE GOOD OLE DAYS...MOVING TO CALIFORNIA, & JUST BN A POOR, MIDWESTERN WHITE BOY, BUT LEARNIN TO TAKE NAMES N BOOM BOXES...DAYS OF THE REAL DANCE MUSIC, & GOTTA FIND SOME GRANDMASTER, ON HERE, COZ "THE" BREAKDANCING TUNE...
to todays standards some of the dj mixes are sloppy. beat mixing and cuttin. i still like all the hiphop electro albums, i own 2 copys of every album. come to think of it, i own all bboy, streetsound and loads of other albums from this era. im now 39 and was breakin in north east uk before anyone else as i was born n lived in NYC. i was there at the begining, your info is second hand info what you read. I SAW THE BIRTH OF HIPHOP FOOL
Mate, there were loads of us up here in the north east of england, i started breakdancing and popping in 1970 (12 years old), then got others interested and it progressed from there, we have reunions every year at Newcastle, one coming up again soon. Mick
Arthur Baker made the original Planet Rock,he borrowed the 808,expirimented and made a new version of Trans Europe Express cause Bambaataa loved that track so much.
I don't really want to argue with you just do to the fact that I love "Planet Rock" straight down to the point of it's release date on April 17th, 1982. There is nothing wrong with the original 12" vinyl of that record.. I'm speaking strictly about this "demix". The sh*t is an abomination of its former self. You speak of the 80's like we drove wood cars or some sh*t. Look up Midnight Fantasy "Why Cry" something I did in 1988. Everything is tight and in time.
.... haha, I remember a lot of your edits. You did some very creative stuff back then, and I still have quite a few of those records. I used Brooklyn Beats a lot, your "Set It Off" edit in particular, as the boys in Queens used to like to throw down (uprock) to it. Peace....
markash, don't try to find an excuse for what is really just a sh*t mix. I said the loop was off, and you blame the 80's? Blame the guy who didn't get the loop right like I just did.
its not a shit mix, just needs some work and im not blaming the 80's. i loved the music then and i still do today. a good example of sloppy 80's mixes is the comp albums(streetsound electro volumes) the beat mixing is out and the melodys when mixing clashes, you can even hear the pitch moving up a level on some mixes. still a owner and love streetsounds, and some analoge synths in the 80's would go out of tune when they warmed up. just saying people made the best with what they had in the 80's
Name 1 street sounds electro lp that had so called "shit" mixing... ill tell you how many.... NONE! This type of reply tells me you know Nothing about hip hop.
another example. if you listen to planet rock, the lazer zap? behind the kick bass is a little out. prob because they recorded it live then looped it. think it sounds better than everything in perfect time down to the last mili sec. wish i had a pc in the 80's instead of fucking around with shitty 4 tracks, reel 2 reels and cv pattern seq's. the atari st with qbase made music 100 easy to make
you will find that most mixes, electro tracks were not that tight like music is today. to todays standard's some ppl would say it was sloppy work, but alot of music in the 80's was recorded live and pc's only had 1k mem lol. still a good mix :)
