  • hey nice video. it is hard to make a city in bryce and even harder to make one as complex as the one seen in the video. but one thing that you could say is if the city would be good to animate with. i plan on make a free running video using bryce and was looking on how to make a city. don't get me wrong it does look like a city but on as a picture and not as a animation. but keep up the videos they do help out the people who want to learn :D

  • Can you send me the picture plz

  • How do you get all the pictures

  • super awesome..this tuto is much much better than the WWWDAZ's one.. very clear, very effective!~ thanks //bow

  • does anyone if theres somewhere where i can get premade map things?

  • I learned alot, thank you

  • ur good :D

  • hey how u make it go faster wen it start pixalating because minces go super slow =(

  • Why Bryce? I have used it on and off over the years but always found it slow. especially the render engine! Was there some good point to Bryce I was missing? Seriously tuts on Blender would help more than tuts on Bryce. Both are awkward to learn but Blender has more to offer in the end. Great tut all the same nice little tip. Subscribed:) For your other tuts:P

  • really nice thanks very easy steps but what do you use for video presentation.

  • cool, I never knew you could open pictures in the edit mountain thing. I made a whole beach island, took me about a week lol.

  • Cyberpunk Cityscape Awesome , thanks :)

  • Awsome tips. Tanks alot freetutorials

  • so if i just paint random squares in microsoft paint and load it in bryce will it work the same???? great tutorial

  • you can rip this city by printing screen and cutting the area used as elevation map :)

or draw your own. the shapes indicates the elevation shape, the intensity of white the altitude. white is top high, black ground lvl.

    yup, nice tuto :)

  • @h4ppydriver i was tring to find a similiar mask on the web but no luck, then i felt sorry i had to decide tu build it my self.. until i saw your comment... fucking briliant idea :))) , i just made an exact image by printing it :)))

    thanks dude..

  • hey everyone.

can you tell me if I can use this to create landscapes and animate it?

and after that add 3d models to it?

    good work ;)

  • This is the tutorial that convinced me to buy Bryce. I'm going thru Robinwood's tuts now, trying to learn the ropes, but this tut will always have a special place in my heart - even the clicks :)

  • Free alternative * :P

  • Anyone knows an alternative to photoshop that is easy to use for drawing pictures like that? : /

  • Ulead photoimpact does pretty much eveything photoshop does for a fraction of the price. Its up to version 12 now I think, but any version can do this sort of thing. Version 4 was given away for free on a magazine coverdisk a few ago, so a bit of hunting on the net should find you a free and legal version

  • Try GIMP.

  • Yesh, GIMP is fantastic free software similar to Photoshop.

  • @dayday8421 no, photoshop is a million times better.

  • @dogspwnu I think the fact that GIMP is free would allow most normal people to understand that although I said they are similar, Photoshop is a far superior product! For a free alternative, GIMP is about the best image manipulation software there is IMO.

  • @dayday8421 agreed, I have gimp on this computer I am using right now. because I do not want to buy another copy of photoshop for my old computer. I love gimp, but still photoshop is amazing, I have CS4. I love it.

  • umm maybe Paint?

  • I don't konw what's wrong with the click. I like it. Excellent tutorial. I love Bryce.

  • WoW this was GREAT!!

Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge!

  • I love this method so much so i have purchased the full version of Bryce..any tutorials on creating a RAW file for SIM terrains in Second Life? i know it must have a 256 x 256 heightmap in 16 bit gray scale...but all new to me i havent a clue! tutorials welcome or a point in the right direction

  • AMAZING !!!!!! thanks alot , but can you make tutorial how to make roads ? Pls , i very need it , coz i wat make Street Racing animation

  • ucking enoying clicksound!!

  • I have to agree. although I think i shall do it more eloquently and with no agression lol. Great tutorial guys :)

  • fucking enoying clicksound!!

  • i agree, excellent helpful video but i was very confused about that clicking noise.

Thanks so much for this great series of tutorials, they've really helped me understand Bryce!

  • good vid but the clicking noise annoyed me so much

  • were is the website

  • I dont have any textures to add onto anything, how do i get textures?

  • and is there a preferred format to save the picture as

  • I suggest BMP for this -- probably 512x512.

  • if you dont have photoshop can you use paint

  • Yes -- any painting program should work.

  • good video but that clicking is fucking annoying, what is it?

  • LOL - sorry. As I stated in earlier comments, it was the default in Camtasia. I didn't realize you could toggle it off until a few videos were already done.

  • i love the clicking noise

maybe i'm just freaky but i love the noise

  • LOL - thanks. :) I like the name "drawtodraw". I did two quick drawing tutorials, but they aren't that exciting.

  • What Program is that at :35?

  • It's called Bryce. The version shown was MetaCreation Bryce -- but it has since been sold to someone. Bryce 6 is the newest version.

  • *click *click *click

    That's all I hear only.

  • omg that is brilliant! thanks for the tutorial! this really opened my thinking :P

  • No problem. I do another one using the same technique to do a forest full of trees. If I can locate the video I will post it as a response to this one.

  • Thank you so much! You're awesome. I'm actually a young age student in high school getting credits for this stuff. Thx so much for your help. Love it.

And yea, that clicking is crazy.

  • I may have to redo some of these older videos to take out the clicking. :)

  • that clicking is bugging the hell out of me!

    Good tut though, cheers

  • Yes, it bugs me too. I only used it on the first couple of tutorials -- and then I figured out how to turn it off. :)

  • great tutorial, annoying clicking noise though

  • Excellent tutorial!

I'm trying to create a vast cityscape but I'm running into a problem once I get several hundred millions of polygons and, obviously, Bryce becomes so slow it's barely usable. Do you have any tips on how to make some sort of mock objects for the background so the project isn't so difficult to work in?

    Again, great tutorial!

  • Great, great and simple tutorials, congrats man !

  • how do u make that clicking noise with the mouse?

  • Oh okay.

  • I dont have Photoshop , But anyway that was still a good tutorial.

  • You can really use any graphics program (MS Paint, for example). Just set it to 512x512 and paint in your blocks.

  • Now THAT'S clever!

    thanx

  • Thank you very much. It really does some wonderful things. I have also achieved some cool results by doing the square "bump map" and then going over the squares with circles or ovals or octagons -- then make that layer a little shorter than the square layer and overlay them in Bryce. You get square buildings with round bottoms... maybe I will do another tutorial. :)

  • thank you, I have beenusing daz3d for a month now, and saw all the posts for bryce but could not figure out what it did.

  • Nice tutorial, very useful.

The mouse is TOO LOUD though!

  • I agree with the mouse issue -- and I did not include the click in later versions. Thanks for the feedback!

  • SO TRUE LOL,but very use full the tuturials

  • Well done. Thanks for the tut!

  • Will this technique produce game quality stuff for lack of a better word?

  • Well, Bryce isn't really designed for game-quality work -- although I haven't tried this technique in other applications. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

  • man! i love Bryce 5!! show my how to make a good animation!

  • this is awesome thanks a lot i never would have figured that out on my own. watching some of your tutorials just opened up a hole new world of video making for me. thanks again.

  • You are VERY welcome. I appreciate being able to help people.

  • Cool! You explained that really well! I'm gonna try it out! ^_^

  • REally great tutorial, I didn't know it was that easy to make a decent looking city!

I hope to see more Bryce tutorials from you, I really like them and it's kind of hard to find any tutorials about Bryce.

    Thanks for uploading. =)

  • Great, but the klicking nerves!

  • I agree. All subsequent tutorials have been done without the click. :)
