  • although he's good, I've never found Eddi Izzard's impersonation of Mason terribly close... but then I can practically orgasm over the original. I've been in love with his voice since I was about 10.

  • Always makes me think of Eddie Izzard xD I love Eddie he's awesome

  • I love James Mason!

  • i love his voice :)<3

  • red hot movie on broadway?

  • nnnnnyesssss

  • Golly, his voice is unmistakable within two seconds of hearing him speak. I thought James Mason was super in "Odd Man Out", a tragic film where he was wounded and how people treated him. Saw it when I was young and impressionable so it stayed with me thereafter. Memories are a treasure.

  • Did very well out of us in the UK considering he refused to fight. Little known Conscientious objector

  • @cpnstav Yes. Strange, that. One of the greats but refused even after Germany attacked. I wonder why?

  • That's Belinda Carlisle's father-in-law!!

  • the golden age of television.

  • Steve Morrison from the Preston and Steve Morning Show does the best impression of James Mason

  • I liked him as Captain Nemo in Walt Disney's production of 20'000 Leagues Under the Sea.I was 8 then,I guess younger than most of you.

  • Wonder how Portland Mason died, she wasn't that old if she was 7 in 1956

  • LISTEN TO THE SUBLIME VOICE OF JM AND THEN LISTEN TO M YORK. THEY ARE ALMOST THE SAME.

  • Nevermind I'm an idiot, he said "Bigger Than Life"

  • What is the red hot motion picture they were talking about?

  • James Mason looks like Clark Gable.

  • My favorite actor (mainly A STAR IS BORN as Norman Mane and LOLITA). One of the greatest voices in film history.

  • here's Jimmy!

  • wonderful actor, magnificent voice, class everywhere.

  • Their ambiguous questions drive me insane! Rather than ask, "Is that a trace of an English accent I hear?" why don't they simply say, "Are you British?"? Haha

  • So great that I found this video! I am the founder of Facebook's Community Page for "HOLLYWOOD FOOTPRINTS" as it was my great uncle, John Tartaglia, who was the master mason to perform the footprint ceremony for the late James Mason, March 30, 1954! This was actually the 3rd ceremony for John to perform out of a total of 40 actors' prints he immortalized, leaving behind one of the greatest legacies in Hollywood to be shared with the world!

  • Bigger than life? nice! that movie was fantastic! being only 15, i wish more people of my age would pay attention to awsome actors like james mason instead of the flukes we put in movies now adays.

  • This voice always melted my heart onscreen.

  • Amazing voice. Amazing. What a spoken voice. Impossible to disguise even for James.

  • How the heck did the guy guess who it was?

  • Mason is smoldering hot! And his manner of speaking is so interesting. He sounds like he's not a native English speaker, I mean, his accent seems a little foreign to me :o I wonder why. Is it just me?

  • I'm pretty sure this show is syndicated on GSN at like 3 AM. Lord only knows what I was doing watching GSN at that time.

  • When he keeps saying "yes", all I can think of is Borat.

  • Does GSN still play episodes of old gameshows? It doesn't seem like they do. I remember when they used to play old episodes of The Price is Right, back when Bob had black hair. It was awesome! I miss the old Lets Make a Deal episodes they'd play, too. It was trippy seeing them give out actual $500 and $1000 bills as prizes. :D

  • James Mason was a fine actor and one of my favorites. Growing up I developed the sense, that while distinctive, there was something familiar about the his way of speaking, but I couldn't place it. Years and years later I found out that he had grown up a big Ronald Colman fan, and then it became so obvious! James Mason was a better actor than Ronald Colman, but the influence is clear to me now.

  • I especially love him in "Lolita".Humbert Humbert is one of my favourite movie characters at all.

  • James Mason was a superior actor. Odd Man Out, excellent portrayal. Five Fingers, another success. Splendid acting in Julius Caesar.

  • I would have recognised his voice immediatly. And Eddie Izzard does a great immitaion of him.

  • One of his films I liked that faded into oblivion was called Pandora and The Flying Dutchman with Ava Gardner. And does anyone remember him in Forver Darling with Lucille Ball, that movie was too cute

  • I loved him in North by Northwest

  • Looove James Mason, this is awesome

  • I thought Kelsey Grammer did a good impression in Frasier. :o

  • James Mason was much better than Gregory Peck was

  • mmmm i love him

  • Mason was one of the coolest cats in showbiz.

  • @jutescrim Deborah Kerr said about acting with him in Hatter's Castle (1942) that he was "an excellent actor and man." Ann Todd said very nice things about him - apparently they had an affair during the filming of the Seventh Veil (1945). Everybody had nice things to say about him during the filming of A Star is Born.

  • One of the finest film actors of the 20th century!

His distinctive voice enabled hime to play a villian as greatly as his good looks assisted him playing a leading man,

  • One of the smoothest men ever to grace the screen.

  • @ibtnm25 He wasan undergaduate at Cambridge University studying architecture, in the 1930's but took up acting instead. Those that acted along side him in the 30's and 40's, however, wold not descibe him as a nice man

  • Aww .. love him so much :D Thanks for sharing this.

  • The only real, true original Mason.

  • James Mason was much better than Burt Lancaster was

  • According to Eddie Izzard James Mason has the voice of God

  • I love James Mason.... His name, his acting, his style, his charisma & his beautiful voice......

  • I like very much James Mason's voice especially when he try to have an Amercan accent

  • he could not utter a natural word on this as his voice must be one of the most recognisable

  • James Mason played very good in The Boys from Brazil

  • What a cutie!! and he could act! Yum!

  • Mr. Mason is one of my favorite Icon's of the silver screen, also in color, we love you James.

  • James Mason was one of the finest British actors to have ever graced the silver screen. Always suave, debonair & sophisticated. True class! The wonderful voice helped, of course. Very underated performer. THANKS a million for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)

  • I'm obviously not the first person to say this, but I love Mr. Mason's accent; so elegant and calm.

  • Lolita, North By Northwest, 20,000 Leagues... great movies all.

  • It's funny that James Mason can't really disguise his own voice, yet NO ONE can do an decent impression of him.

  • Kelsey Grammer did in Frasier episode once

  • @holydiver73 eddie izzard does an all right impression.

  • @holydiver73 True! :)

  • @holydiver73 Eddie Izzard does a reasonable one.

  • @holydiver73 Eddie Izzard is the closest I can think of. "James Mason will be playing God in this film..." :)

  • @holydiver73 Gilbert Gottfried did.

  • @holydiver73 I agree your right!!

  • @holydiver73 Eddie Izzard does quite a good impression

  • @holydiver73 steve coogan and rob brydon do a pretty good impression

  • @holydiver73 bill hader can do it pretty good

  • @holydiver73 Eddie Izzard. =D

  • @holydiver73 I think Jim Varney did a really great impression of him in "Ernest Goes To Jail."

  • @holydiver73 His was truly a unique voice and acting style

  • @holydiver73 Oh, I don't know about that... What about Eddie Izzard? That depends on how you define 'decent', though, I suppose ^^

  • @holydiver73

Well, come September 2 you'll get a chance to do your best James Mason impression because that's the second annual Talk Like James Mason Day.

  • @holydiver73 Eddie Izzard can.

  • I had a lengthy chat with Mr. Mason at a book signing in Glasgow, Scotland in 1982. He was a beautiful human being.

  • Loved him in Georgy Girl, Lolita and julius Caesar. But he made some horrible, quasi-pornographic movies at the end of his life. Not for me to judge-- perhaps he needed the money.

But "Mandingo" had to be the lowest point of his star-vehicle career. Yuck!

  • Just saw "A Star is Born" with Judy Garland and James Mason. He was absolutely brilliant as Norman, Judy Garland's love interest. Mason had tremendous star-power.

  • James Mason is so good in Salems Lot

  • All the ones from the UK, Richard Burton, Herbert Marshall and James Mason, magnificent voices, and let us not forget the "Prince"...Sir Laurence Olivier!

  • what a classy bunch

  • Thanks for this - James Mason looks so good here - so this was just before "Bigger than LIfe' got released - he was great in that film.

  • Oh, boy! What a voice!

  • Here comes Mr. Jordan!

  • Comment removed

  • His voice was 2nd only to George Sanders

  • they should bring this game back

  • I love how he changes his distinctive powerful voice into something so wimpy.

  • He was amazing, he had a remarkable voice.

  • In my mind James Mason = Lolita....

  • agreed+captain nemo. i want him to narrate my life. what a voice!

  • "nYeasss"

  • A very very great actor !

  • I can't look at him and not see beyond Humbert Humbert

  • which means you see everything but humbert humbert

  • i know his grandson. he goes to my school!!!

  • Four days after the after the Andrea Doria sunk off Nantucket.

  • Very charming, this Mister Mason!

  • Suave and sophistication

  • This is cool and I love James Mason

  • Love him! Bigger Than Life! What a great film!!

  • It is a masterpiece, it's a real shame it flopped so badly at the box office, because it's an incredible film, as time has proven. Had it done better, maybe Mason could've turned his producing eyes towards other daring projects, maybe even worked with Nick Ray again.

  • WOW!!! THANK YOU!

  • Fred Allen died in March 1956 and this mention of Fred Allen occurred in July 1956. At least he got a post mortum mention: Aside from the final Sunday night WML broadcast, I am hard pressed to remember anyone talking about Kilgallen after her death. It was as if she never existed.

  • Interesting observation. All I can say is that Bennett Cerf said in his autobiography that he hit it off with Dorothy, that in person she wasn't "catty" like she was in her column. But most of these folks on WLM were in show business in one form or another, so they possibly wanted to keep a little distance from Dorothy because of her profession. Cerf raves about Fred Allen in his book, it seems they really loved him.

  • Her death was more than somewhat mysterious. Maybe that had something to do with it. I think she was the best at guessing the celebrity guests.
