Such a brilliant piece of songwriting. You'll notice it never has any distinctive verses or choruses it just builds with one different part after another being tied together by the phrase In Dreams and the sheer power of his voice.
The finest poet and singer to come out of america. You suffered so much pain in this life but you left us so much pleasure RIP Roy & Barbara who pased away 23 years to the day of Roy's death
This song was played by my grandma's grave side... and we do walk and talk in dreams :o) xxx
She loved Roy Orbison and she told me this song helped her when he son was killed in a motorbike accident in the 60's... a beautiful song and it stirs some sad but lovely memories of her x
@TrevorKingKwong Yeah, I read that as well. He was told though how it meant so much to the main character and then, whether or not he really meant it, Roy in his good nature said he understood. Man, I wish Roy was still around. Like John, you never know what they'd have brought out by now.
This is real music. That stuff they are pumping out now days, well I don't know what it is but it's not even close to being in the same class with Roy and his
music. All of these years and he's still being played, he's still being listened
to. None of these so called singers of today will be able to say that.
The fact that he can spread his voice across that range is really annoying! I can only sing half of this song, then my voice breaks. The emotion doesn't help either!!
More like two (in fact, "In Dreams" is exactly two octaves). No singer can sing 12 octaves. The entire range of the human voice, lowest bass to highest soprano, is about 5 1/2, opera singers have 3 to 3 1/2, and most pop singers do fine with about 1 1/2. The range of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is well under two octaves.
No putdown; Orbison had a great range for a pop singer. But a claim of "12 octaves" (or even five) is like saying someone runs 50 miles an hour. It's that silly.
Nonsense. Neither had anything like four octaves. Orbison had about two octaves, and Freddie had less than that. (He was actually a pretty terrible singer, technically.) Being a successful pop singer is a great accomplishment; there is no need to embellish it with patently absurd claims.
People know so little about singing that they think "He has four octaves!" is some kind of huge compliment. But all it means is that (sorry) you don't know what you're talking about.
long live roy .....

the six dislikes of this song came from orbison impersonators who can't reach all the octaves. it is easily the only reasonable explanation.

My love Paul passed away, since then I've been heartbroken & lost. The grief & sadness is overwhelming. I miss & love him still so very much.
This song has such a new meaning for me.
Into the magic night, I softly say a silent prayer like dreamers do...
In dreams I walk with you, In dreams I talk to you...we're together in dreams,
It's too bad it only seems it only happens in my dreams, only in dreams, in BEAUTIFUL dreams.
Sweet dreams
See you in my dreams, Paul
Love you Becky
