  • Anyone else think that the 1995-6 version is a far more realistic depiction of the stories?! They actually stayed true to the books and made very few changes! Also, I always imagined Timmy as more of a mongrel or some sort of terrier (pretty much exactly like Connal, the dog who played him!) not a border collie, George (aka. Jemima Rooper) didn't look freakishly like a boy, and, Marco Williamson and Paul Child were a much more gorgeous Julian and Dick in my opinion!!!

  • The Famous Five - The Complete Collection is to be officially released on DVD in Australia on 8 December 2011 by REEL.

  • Wow that takes me back a quarter of a century or so!!

  • Still fond of the Famous Five opening. As a chld, i couldn't understand what it was said. Now as an English teacher, i can and it's always so great to remind of this series !

    Trop bien, oui, yes !

  • I'm Thai and i love The Famous Five so much!!!

I collected the set of this story books in both Thai and English version~

when i was in grade 7, it's the first time that i read it!

even now i'm the freshmen already,, i still love'in it and look forward to hug Julian someday !!!!! XD

  • I was and still am a huge fan of Enid Blyton, I love all her books...

Five, St. Clare, Mallory Towers, etc... I grew up reading all of those books even until now... ^__^

  • Believe It Or Not, But Anne From The Famous Five Was Little Susie Regan In The Sweeney.

  • It's probably already been pointed out but did they really need to put the word 'Dick' exactly where they did?

  • im 14 and i still love them i find that i enjoy the new famous five eposides in the 1990's more fun too listen to jeez i sound like a 7 year old but i dont care cause i love THE FAMOUS FIVE love to have the eposide in dvds at home if anyone knows how to get them pleese tell me thanks

  • Have a good shit after watching this.

  • Oh my, I never realised that the German opening was a 1:1 translation of the English one. Problem: The rhythm doesn't work in English at all. :-)

Never mind, the series was great and Anne was so cute back then.

Anybody looking for the series on DVD: It's available at Amazon.de for (currently) 31 Euro. Provided languages are German and English (forced German dub).

  • Wow, it's been over 30 years since I've seen that theme. I thought George's Grifter bike was really cool, Anne was really beautiful and Julian was lame.

I liked Dick though (chortle chortle).

  • My memories of this are a bit blurry but It seems that they used to have to spend half of every episode rescuing Anne. If they'd got rid of her, they could probably have solved most of the mysteries in five minutes. Let's face it, she was dead wood.

  • Aww these were my favourite books when i was younger

  • considering i'm a 90's baby i have NO idea what this is lol i just came here lol

  • Used to have all these videos... And still got 90% of the books to this day. Brings back some memories. Good and bad.

  • I wore out the videos from the video store watching these. I WISH I could get them on DVD. TV today is so crappy! The books were even better and FF was SO much better than SS. I used to listen to the tapes too. Ah...memories. :)

  • @icekat83 Rumours abound that they are due for release sometime. However, they HAVE been released in Germany.

  • Brings back so many memories

I liked both SS and FF think SS were my favourite though.

Had some of the book and tapes.

Re reading the books now, nice to have a trip down memory lane.

  • @secret7gal

My favorites were the Adventure series with Philip, Jack, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and of course Kiki the cockatoo. Similar to FF but generally in more exotic settings. I had all the FF books and a few SS.

  • Great books, and this show did a good job of keeping the basic gist of the books but updating them a bit for the 70s. I thought the kids playing the Five were very much like I imagined them to be.

  • sorry thats quite funny wgen the guys falling over and it says DICK, (i knoe thats his name)

  • timmy, what a lad

  • i agree absolute with watercolourprints, the five find outers where made for Film & TV

the plots and strories are great, basicaly a younger version of sherlockhomes, while everyone seems to rave about the ff, the jewel in the crown was & is FFO, fatty's adventures at solving the the cases, disguises & outwiting goon (lestrade) are far superior to anything the ff ever did, come on tv producers wake up and produce FFO what a fantastic series waiting to be made

  • I actually liked the Five Find-Outers series more so than Famous Five. :/ Wish they made a series out of that too.

  • Takes me back to when I was a mere teenager. Jenny and her sister used to come up here for the summer holidays. Don't think Jenny really liked the fame much as she hardly ever spoke about her TV role and I think she was just glad to be away from the local people who knew of her fame and just interact with ordinary kids doing what ordinary kids did. She looked quite different in real life as her hair wasn't the same as on TV. One of my friends once commented "you look a bit like that girl off TV"

  • why did they never have to go into the witness protection programme-think of all the people they helped send to prison or the mad scientists they thwarted. Yet they return to Kirrin cottage every year! Loved the books though.

  • great memories!!!

  • Best...Show....Ever! And the books were awesome too!!!

  • my granny had this on video when i was wee. fan-bloody-tastic!

  • aww

i remember my mum telling me after i had read the books ( Which I havent done in AGES) that there was a tv show of so u had too see it!

the theme song fits it perfectly but

    its a little cheesy though

  • Dick???????

  • @tvjoe300 olden day word

  • Always liked this opening. Too bad about George though. RIP.

  • I read these books (and loved them) growing up in Denmark, I had no idea they made videos of them.

  • As I was a child I loved this stories!

  • 1970 shows, their somewhat scary to me

  • And Timmy the D-Og-Og-Og!

  • the best ever!! :D <3

  • I LOVE THE FAMOUS FIVE im getting through the books im nearly finished im not looking forward to it. ive only just started reading them i used to think they would probably be boring... not anymore. this theme tune is catchy

  • @myvoice987654321

    well said!

  • loved the kids from this version... =) and the dog is LUSH!

  • Poor timmy will be dead now, and he looked a lovely dog. Life is so fucked up.

  • One of my favorite series beside "the double decker" when we only had one TV channel nation wide and cable TV is only a dream :-) Still have all of the books. I used to wonder what is a sandwich look like (don't ask why) Never imagined that years later I had to deal with it everyday hahaha.....

  • There are very few truly evil people in the world. Adolf Hitler, Walt Disney, Enid Blyton would be in the list

  • Loved this as a kid I wish i could go back in time *sigh* its no fun being an adult - sure i have money and can do anything now but its just not fun!!!

  • Christ i'm so old...

  • I loved this series. Paper Chase was another series I enjoyed even though I was a bit young to fully understand it. These programmes tough good values, unlike today with Family Guy and crap like that which children watch. Knowing what it was like being a kid makes it easier to be a good parent.

  • i love famous five its amazing, i wish i was part of they're group!

  • I always though the lyrics were "Julian's dick and Anne..."

  • @saggyeyebag It was actually: Jullian's dick in Anne.

  • @c975671 That's so wrong! xD

  • @JackRabbitSlim I wonder if after all this time, George finally came out of the closet.

  • @c975671 hahahahhahahahahahha.

  • Michele Gallagher is really dead or it is a bad joke??

  • It was very tragic what happened to Michelle Gallagher (George) in her later life. So many of my schoolmates had crushes on her...I was more of an Anne person at that age though, I like my women girly

  • omg i havent seen that since I was a kid.. wow it brings back some good memories.. soooo wish I was a kid again... life was soooo simple...

  • I never knew they did a TV series of the famous five i thought they did only the books xD

  • This brings back memories :)

  • cool

  • Does anyone know where I can get the videos for all the series? Please write back.

  • Anyone have more details about that Opening Theme ? Anyone has the cover of 45rpm ?

  • Maybe I can help...

I have it on 45...I'm listening to it right now :)

I also made a Full Length Theme Tune video using the record and my original off air Betamax recordings from the 70's...It was uploaded on another channel I use to have along with many other rare clips from my personal collection...Youtube suspended the channel about a Year Ago :(

  • Great memories - I only saw this show a couple of times, but I loved the book series as a kid. The 1950s Famous Five books are still very popular today! Not that I can get my 7-year old sister to show any interest, though. I would love to read them to her if she would just sit still & listen ;)

  • I absolutely loved this show as a kid as well as the books,Sad that Georgina [Michele Galllagher]

took her own life she was my favorite of the bunch.

  • Where did you hear that? I am a nosey-parker, so I did a google-search on her, but couldn't find anything mentioning suicide.

  • Michele was a great actress and I think its sad she passed away young. However it is Not confirmed that it was suicide, there have been various rumours circulating in fact.Whatever the truth is is irrelevant, the fact that she was an integral part of a cult show for many kids of the 70s and 80s means she wont be forgotten soon.

  • @teee2

Guess I'm really not sure how she died, but that she did is sad as I said she was my fav of the bunch.

  • I agree, its sad,it was a great series..so many memories just listening to that music!

  • its not what i thought it would be

  • love the books love the show

  • You can buy it on dvd on ebay. Watched this very happily as a kid in Australia, along with reading the books. Secret tunnels and smugglers hey?!

  • i love this

  • I wish I still had the VHS tapes of this... I was born in '92 yet loved the old shows from the 70s and 80s far more than what was current then.

This should be back on TV!

  • Great Memories of the late 60s and early 70s when I used to read The Famous Five books. I loved them so much that when my Gran came to switch my bedroom light off, I used to use my torch under the blanket to carry on reading my books. I never saw any TV series of them, they were not broadcasted in SA.

  • I Use to watch it back in the early 80's my favouite was Gary Russell when he played Dick who's now into doing doctor who Audios I met him at a dr who convention in Sydney back in 2000 he was really nice he signed me the audio cover I asked him about Marcus Harris and what he was upto he said he runs a company forgotten what he he said but its good to see what he's up to .

  • haha, i remember listening 2 tapes of these wen i was younger... good times

  • i loved this show as a kid. would love to find a site to download them. the show only ran for 2 seasons i think.

  • My brother's name is Timmy, and to this day, even though he's now in his twenties, we still piss him off by singing "...Timmy the do- oo- oo-og"!

  • is it still sad that i still have the video's for this xD

i was a huge famous five fan, i basically grew up on Enid Blyton! I say i grew up, i'm only 17, but i still love reading over them every now and again! haha, thanks for this! :D

  • @justlibbyyy SAD? They dont make gr8 stuff like this anymore!!!!!

  • @justlibbyyy same!

  • GUITAR CHORDS anyone?

  • hahahahh here in Portugal their names are quite different xD

"Georgina" or "George", is actually called "Maria José" or "Zé"... "Dick" (this name is being traumatic to me) is actually "David"... "Aunt Fanny" is "Tia Clara" and "Uncle Quentin" is "Tio Alberto" XDDD

Julian and Anne are not so different, it's Júlio e Ana...

I'm sorry, but these ARE their real names :)

  • oh my goodness, i forgot all about this...

i was a big fan, i read tons of the books as a kid!...and i watched the show too when i lived in the UK (live in canada now...)

    thanks for this...wow...

  • New Zealand in the early 80's

  • famous five are the best

  • i do agree with ifoundsrage..i was looking for this video..really nostalgic now

  • I live in New York over in the states and I used to watch this show in the early 1980s. We had an antenna instead of cable so we could pick up several Canadian TV Stations. I loved it as well. Thanks so much for posting it and bringing back such good memories!

  • haven't heard that tune since the mid eighties..class... i think it was mainly shown in the UK and Ireland..not sure about the states or anywhere else

  • Germany as well.

  • new zealand too! :)

  • and Australia...

  • In France in the early 80s! :)

  • great memories watched this around 1979 summer time shown on the box great memories ....

  • THX my friend, you made my day !

  • It sounds like the English Rock band Tears for fear's got their inspiration for their late eighties hit single seeds of love from this theme

  • whenever theres a adventure to be found just a clue or a secret measage when ever the famous five to be around whenever theres a mistery to be to be solved hope in the moving castle were will spot the scroll we are the famous five julin'dick'anne'gorgeina and timithy the dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Julian is such a hottie!!!

  • He s now a local politician. Apparently none of the stars in the show are in acting anymore. Julian was gorgeous!! I had the biggest crush any 7 yr old ever had on this bloke..lol

  • I loved the book and I read all of them. I haven't seen the show though. I really wanted George and Dick to be together but on account of them being cousins, I had to pretend that Quentin was only her step father. What do you think of the couple?

  • timmy and that horse are soooo cute! =DD

  • i loved famous five books and telly progame back in the 70s.....i went every where with my torch...lol... i also joined the famous five club and got a badge...i soooo wanted to be one of them ...now days i take my daughter to swanage and point out the great landmarks where the famous five had their adventures....ive found my old books out the loft and will be reading them with my daughter!....bliss

  • Hello!

I used to watch this series when I was a kid, and I'm desperately seeking HELP:

I'm trying to find the guitar chords for this song!

    Can anyone help me?

    Please...

    Cheers!

  • Different lyrics and this melody is number one in any country....

  • where did you get the dvds from

  • ive got all 3 series 1978-1979 on DVD - excellent stuff!

  • Anne-(Jennifer Thanish) I wonder where she is now. What is she doing now? When I was child I captivated by her cute face. Does anyone have her lately picture?

  • 'Finniston Farm' is one of the few Five books I've never read. Is it any good?

  • Yup. It's a good one.

  • And Timmy the do-o-o-g

    No alarms and no surprises..

  • So, why is the girl called George? (Is it short for Georgina?) I guess I'm still confused by it. Is she just majorly a tomboy?

  • She's called Georgina but she wanted to be a boy so shecalls herself George

  • loved the books and I loved this show when i was a kid,but after they took it of the television I never saw it again, couldn't believe that I'd find it here as it was so long ago,but on a sad note I had no idea that Michelle Gallagher had died, and from suicide none the less,I liked the character George.sad indeed.

  • In Germany the series is called "Five Friends". Still popular. Every year 2 - 4 new books come out (Ghostwriter), Audio Cassettes are still in production with brand new stories. But I don't like the new adventures! It's too much detective stuff not adventurous. The characters are totally strange ...not like Enid Blyton created them. Now George is the boss, not Julian. This sucks! The new books really suck! I only read the books Enid Blyton has written.

  • such a shame that Michelle Gallagher passed away in 2001 :(

  • what happened her?

  • she committed suicide in 2001...real shame. She was partially paralysed in the 80s due to a motorcycle accident, and was rarely heard of since, except when she had a son.

  • that is sooo sad, the poor girl, thanks for filling me in, i loved the show, it was my era! thanks again

  • i miss my childhood brings a tear too the eyes.

  • pure awesoome sweetness. my mum had the full collection and i still read em!

  • I couldn't understand some of the lines myself so I ended up having to google it!

  • Hi! I'm portuguese and I would like to ask for help regarding the lyrics of this theme. Anyone?

  • Wherever there's adventure to be found

Just a clue or a secret message bring the Famous Five around

Whenever there's a mystery to be solved

Up in the ruined castle or down in smugglers' hold

    We are the Famous Five

Julian, Dick and Ann, George and Timmy the dog

    We are the Famous Five

We're coming back to you whenever there's time

    Time after time after time

  • thanks a lot, hnir07, "smuggler's hold" - I would never get that...

  • smugglers hold? shouldnt that be smugglers cove?

  • yeah i think it is cove!! its hard to make it out though but yeah it is cove

  • yes it is cove

  • Oohhh really thanks for this! Bring back good memories! :D

  • So damn catchy! :)

  • Fantastic Storrys ... Thank you ZDF and BBC!

  • fantastic books.......

  • whoa flashback! i loved the books so much, and i loved this song. anyone ever notice how the singers of 70s tv theme tunes were always just slightly off key? part of their charm!

  • oo my my my GAWD!! i used to luv these series.....

  • sure does bring back good memories, used to run home from school to watch it because i didnt want to miss the opening song!

  • Ohhh I love this series sooooo much, if only they'd put it on DVD.

  • Apparently most of the 1978 series was released on DVD in Australia and New Zealand (region 4) in 2005. This same series had been relased on video in the UK between 1983 and 1999. It seems that it's difficlut to find it in either format nowadays (2008).

  • I haven't seen this in friggin' years!!!!!

    brings back memories.

  • I loved this when I was young. It was only when I watched it again years later that I realised those kids couldn't act! Still very enjoyable though.

  • I grew up on the 90's version of the TV series and loved the books.

  • ...we are the famous five, julian, dick, anne, george and timmy the dooog...

  • One of my absolute favourite series as a young teenager, back in the 70's, along with the Double Deckers !

I can't believe the names of the young actors don't appear in the english main titles !

They were in the french ones !

  • the Double Deckers !? O God! This may be the title of the film which I have been looking for...

  • the actors were

    marcus harris as julian

    michele galagher as george

    jennifer thanisch as anne

    toddy as timmy the dog

    gary russell as dick

    this help?

  • This is the bedst 70´serie ever.

  • Oh those kids cannot sing! But the series bloody rocked!

  • best theme song ever.

  • Aw man homie! the nostalgia is just engulfing on this one! Childhood is the best man! (mine's anyway lol).

  • Hey there, tell your father all the best! He ebchanted more than one generation, thats for sure. I love the song and i am from good old Germany, where i grew up with the show. thanks

  • OMG! I remember this being on Irish TV. sUCH FUN :)

  • I bought that theme tune on 45 record (along with other such hits as Grange Hill, Eastenders and cheers)FAB! Thanks for postingxx

  • That's good! do you also have access to the closing tune of this song to post on YouTube?

  • i fuckin loved the famous five books

  • Was it the original Timmy (in the first Famous Five series) or his progeny / offspring (which might also be named Timmy)?

Is the Original Timmy dog still alive? Maybe (though I doubt it).

  • Do anyone have the closing theme (English version) of Famous Five?

  • Back in 1990, I was obsessed with everything Famous Five. Loved this show.

  • I preferred Dick.

  • Is Timmy still alive or long extinct? I think the latter holds sway.

  • Funny that in France, the opening sequence was exactly the same but mirrored right to left...

  • Holy crap these 46 seconds were proof that time travel is possible : I just went back 20 years !!

  • lol yeah me to i think i found a worm hole lol

  • do you read the books? i love them!

  • Me encantan, cuando era pequeña me he leido

    casi todas sus aventuras!

  • George is da bomb.

  • When I was 6, I thought George was the coolest

  • I must admit, my first sexual fantasies were with George *-*

disturbing, i know. but it was.

  • I fell to Potsie from Happy Days...

  • I prefferred Anne myself (I like my women to be girly) but you were not alone, lots of guys in my school had similiar 'awakenings' with George. Dunno though....given her tomboy behaviour, I'm not sure any of you would have had much chance with her!

  • @raispartapa my first sexual fantasies were with Timmy

  • @raispartapa LMAO....FOR REAL?!

  • @raispartapa Don't worry about it, half my mates at school started looking 'that way' at George once the spots and broken voice arrived. I was more an Anne person myself...don't like tomboys, I like my women to be girly

  • @raispartapa My first was with a teacher at my school. ;)

  • @raispartapa Ok! you can have Geofge ,I'll take the girl.

  • @raispartapa actually I don't find that disturbing at all! I had probably my first crush on Anne!

  • Ah my 1970s memories of hot Summer days, hide & seek, and cool lemonade!

  • @raispartapa Hahaha! I had the biggest crush on George. Her tomboyish charms pierced my heart!

  • @raispartapa at least it wasnt Timmy :)....I think there were a few of us with the same thoughts about George!!
