@008devlin Okay, I just went through the video again to verify something and here are the hard facts: 16 out of the 17 gophers shot in this video were "one shot one kill" that died on impact. 1 gopher was shot twice. The first shot would have killed it eventually but we put it down with an immediate followup shot killing it instantly.
@008devlin I would like to put your mind at ease too with this: We really are trying for the one shot one kill ratio. Most of these (95%-98%) were just that. What you are seeing is their bodies bouncing around because they were shot in the head. It is an involuntary response that has been documented in chickens, humans, etc. So, though it does look like they are in pain, the truth is that they don't feel anything (when the head shot is successful). I think it is funny that you think I can't shoot straight though! LOL I should have lost my job YEARS AGO then.. I would really like to know how you got those close-up videos. What is the zoom on your camera? Also, what kind of rifle where you using? .223, 17HMR, 22-250?
@viebrocker We used two cameras.. A JVC digital video camera with a high end zoom lens and a Canon xSi with a 70-200mm telephoto lens for the still shots. As far as the rifle goes, we used a standard .22LR rifle with CCI Stinger rounds.
I think you're doing a right thing over there, some animals (like humans ofc :P) are a lil too invasive and the fact that predators numbers are going down more and more let em free to reproduce. The fact i do not agree with is that you leave some of this animals suffer in pain, i like only the one shot kills actually, the others i would just put an end to the animals pain, afterall it doesn't deserve it: the lil bastard is just following nature :) keep on with the job, but as a sportsman U.U
