ok....if you have ever worked for tips..probably not... I usually bring back the change yet a majority of servers ask...the reason being..alot of people dont give a shit that we make the $2.60 an hour and if the bill is $16 dollar leave change for the 20 no matter what....if it was $18 they would say keep the change....its not being lazy it the fact of servers wage not increasing in the last 20 years....
the next thing, you servers will be asking us to get our own refills. geez, i go to the restaurant to have the service of being served, and i am happy to leave a great tip. i'm not going to make the workers' lives easier, that's for a union leader or something...geez.
yeah, its standard to just say "change". I dont even look at the amount in the folder. I see what it is, close it, change?
Sometimes people give you anywhere from 1$-25$ a table...you can't tell anymore...do you want that 3 dollars? Instead of me walking half ways across the restaurant to get you some change, i can take three seconds and ask if you want change back...
it is becoming "standard" because the waiters are doing it all of the time, NOT because of the customers. THAT is the problem. It is not a standard...it shouldn't be. good managers should not let it become a standard.
