Anyone with half a working brain knows George Orwell was a democratic Socialist and a member of the Independent Labour Party. He volunteered on the side of the Republicans (Which had large Communist and Socialist parties) during the Spanish Civil War.

What George Orwell is against is Stalinism. I think it's pretty obvious in 1984 when he states that while IngSoc kept the name, they were only paying lip service to the ideology and supported things abhorred in Socialism while in the Animal Farm,
