Don't look for a way or an universal key to creativity, people there is no such thing. It is strictly individual. It works differently to different people, so find your own 'key' put it in the lock and turn the damn lock. I only hope not to afraid of what you might see behind the door. "I saw a beautiful bird descending from the sky.' 'It aint no any bird, just the devil cast from heaven. Damn I knew you were stealing off my nightmare."
I think if Lynch had made Inception it would have been much more realistic in that it would have been like a real dream. Halfway through watching Inception I thought this is a bit silly because it's nothing like an actual dream, because dreams are always weird and nonlinear.
I agree with your statement about Inception. To me, that movie was the worst kind of failure: a great idea realized poorly. The thing I love about Lynch is that he deals in subtleties, and does it so well. I felt that Nolan's miscalculation was that he chose to beat the audience over the head with Inception's themes.
@SnafuFrank You're right, he doesn't suck in a normal context. But in comparison to most directors ('most directors' being people like Lynch and Kubrick) he's fucking terrible.
@Aepotheosis He's not fucking terrible dude, i mean yes David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick are obviously better, but that doesn't mean that Nolan is fucking terrible. The ones who are fucking terrible are Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer and so many others, but Nolan isn't one of them. Nolan is an amazing director.
@SnafuFrank I agree, he's not a bad director. He's a step above your average director but he's sure as shit not Hollywood worthy. Burton-tier at best.
@Aepotheosis Well that's your opinion, and i can respect that. In my opinion Nolan is Hollywood worthy, but that's just my opinion. I hope that we can both respect each others opinions and not argue over them.
He's not unlike a scientist of things that are yet to be measureable. Techniques like Transcendental Meditation were used for a long time in various eastern spiritual traditions. It sounds weird to our western material-centric thoughts. "Science is the joga of the west; joga is the science of the east." John Lilly

I think Twin Peaks is very good but I have some second thoughts about some of the very disturbing stuff in some of his other movies as for example Wild at heart.Lately I saw a movie by Jennifer Lynch of whom I suppose is related to David, about a cople of psychopaths who make everyone believe they're the FBI agents they brutally murdered earlier. This movie is some of the sickest shit I' ve ever seen in my life and I'm not sure what's it's contributance. As for David himself I both love and hateDL

We all have plenty of fish to catch; I've caught too many as a writer. David, your films are amongst some of the most eccentric, bizarre, overty - over the top odd, disturbing, and yet haunting (in a good way) committed to the medium; history has ever seen.
I need help as an independent filmmaker, if anyone would care to help in a small way please search "Brozeiy's activist flick" If you think that it's hard to make independent films; you're simply getting your information from the wrong sources.
out of curroisity i wonder what david lynches drug history is like. im sure he isnt using now, but i wonder what he has done. "And if your counciousness, your awareness, is expanded more and more and more...", i had an acid flashback as soon as he said that. hehe.
david also is touching on the collective consciousness by suggesting we all have this variety of "fish" available to catch, we all fishing in the same pond. An authentic thinker for sure.
Lynch is a visual artist, a visual thinker. His descriptions seem vague and abstract. I personally relate to the world in images and he has found a way to articulate the creative process, though seemingly obtuse in manner, it is not only eloquent to those that think in the same way, but incredibly precise and self observant as well.
I love him, but sometimes in these interviews, he reminds me of that Farting Preacher guy. He does make the best damn movies, though. Never quite figure out what they mean. That's because he doesn't even know. He knows the images resonate and have some importance, but I bet he's not sure why. Just as well. If he gave us the "answer", it would just spoil the fun.

@drunkblackout27
no he said that "desire" is the "bait", which is why i'm wondering what the hook represents metaphorically
eplebel 1 year ago
@eplebel Maybe the person is the hook, because their the one catching the idea. Maybe?

An authentic thinker for sure.

about going out on the ocean of mind catching average sized ideas in your net..

Ok, we get it! Great metaphor with the fishes and all, but then talking about the fishes during the entire time, seriously... not necessary.

David is so funny and such a dynamic thinker. His use of metaphors is endless and surgical in execution !
Long live David Lynch!
