remember that Jimmy Bain co-wrote many of Dio's biggest hits like Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark, The Last in Line and many more. They were an amazing team!
This is good, but the *whole* build up in the song is to the "Shame on the dreams" part during the bridge, and he wouldn't even attempt the note. I hate it when singers record these epic tracks wiht soaring high notes, and can't/won't replicate them live.
ABOUT THIS RANGE STUFF...I DON'T THINK IS VERY SIGNIFICANT AFTER SOME POINT...THERE'S A SINGER HERE IN BRASIL"EDSON CORDEIRO" WHO SINGS THE HIGHEST FEMININ NOTES OF OPERA SINGING PERFECLY,,,CANT EVEN IMAGINE HIS RANGE...BUT AFTER YOU HEAR TWO SONGS IT SUCKS...YOU KNOW?
AND WHEN I SAID THAT ITS NOT HARD TO PLAY OR SING SOMETHING I'M NOT SAYING IT'S WORST THAN HARDTHINGS TO SING AND PLAY.I LIKE DYLAN WAY BETTER THAN DREAM THEATER FOR INSTANCE.BOUT SINGERS ONE GUY I NEVER TOOK TOO SERIOUS IS DEE SNIDER FROM TWISTED SISTER LATELY I LISTEN MORE CAREFULLY,THE GUY IS FUCKING GREAT,VERY HARD TO IMITATE
I HAVE A DOUBT,ISAW THE DREAM DECEIVER LIVE THERE'S ON YOUTUBE...IS GOOD BUT SO LOWER VOCALS NOT IMPRESSIVE AT ALL,NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE STUDIO VERSION WITCH IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE...WONDER IF IN STUDIO THEY USED SOME KIND OF HIGH PITC EFFECT OR WHAT.I'M NOT STUPID AND KNOW YOU'RE NOT TOO WE BOTH LIKE BASICALY SAME HEAVY ROCK STILE...SO LETS STOP THIS POINTLESS DISCUSSION AND CELEBRATE THESE AWESOME SINGERS.BY THE WAY DO YOU SING OR PLAY?
@beroth77 i play violin and my biggest passion is classical music mainly bach and wagner. I don't judge a singer only on range. I think actually having a distinctive voice is the most important feature and that is why i think highly of Oz despite many are critical of his skills, and oz also is quite creative and is NOT monotone. Singer can be juded by distinctivness, creativity, passion, range, and power. Neil Turbin has alot of range, but i dont rate him high.
@beroth77 I think singing is like guitar players debates. Malmsteen is techinically better than Iommi or Blackmore, but i think overall many will say the latter are better. I have seen Dio live twice, never felt cheated when seeing him. SOme feel he is the best metal singer, i disagree with that, but people are entitled to their opinion. I prefer DIo's voice with piano as some of his early elf stuff and the roger glover butterfly ball. I have all his 20 studio albums on 1 of my mp3 players
@KubrickLives YES,IS CERTAINLY A MATTER OF TASTE,WHEN YOU ARE COMPARING SUCH SKILLED MUSICIANS,I REALLY LIKE MALMSTEEN...I KNOW HE'S REPETITIVE ,ALWAYS WITH THE HARMONIC MINOR AND DIMINISHED SCALES...BUT SOUNDS GENIOUS FOR ME.BUT MY FAVORITE PLAYER IS ULI ROTH.DON'T KNOW IF YOU LIKE HIM...BUT AS YOU PLAY THE VIOLIN YOU MAY LIKE ,CAUSE HIS GUITAR HAS 32 FREATS HE MAKES IT SOUND CLOSELY TO A VIOLIN.ABOUT DIO'S EARLY STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW ELF,I THINK IS ONE OF THE MOST PERFECT BANDS EVER.
@beroth77 My favorite guitarist is Alex Lifeson and favorite singer is David Byron. I am more of a fan of Malmsteen;s rising force stuff. Interesting you are Brazilian, i studied Portuguese & French in college, but more fluent in Spanish & Tagalog. Dio was a New Yorker most of his life, so his death made big news here in NY. As for Virtuoso guitarist i like Michael Romeo of Symphony X and of course Randy Rhoads of Quiet RIot and early Oz, and. Petrucci of DT.
WELL,YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUTCBEEN A MATTER OF TASTE,COUSE ACCORDING TO YOUR OCTAVE RANGE THEORY DOGD,OR MARIAH ARAEY WOULD BE THE BEST METAL SINGERS COUSE THEM CAN REACH HIGHER NOTES THAN ANY HUMAN BEEN LOOOL.ABOUT PLANT REALLY IN STUDIO IS VERY VERY GOOD BUT LIVE IS EMBARESSING,TO BE GENTLE,ABOUT GILLAN IN SABBATH HE DID GOOD ACTUALLY.BUT HE NRVER WOULD BE ABLE TO SING SOMETHING LIKE STARGAZER,GYPSY,L.A.CONNECTION WITHOUT USING HIS CHILD IN TIME/HIGWAY STAR FALSETOS.NEVER...SAW HIM LIVE IN 97... BAD
I miss you RJD, you were a smaller guy with a voice like a lion & a kind hearted soul that gave everything for the love of theatrical metal & that you were the best at what you did , RIP Ronnie \m/
MrRebelutionary I Agree 99% with what you say :) I' m a singer and my favorite artists are Dio and Priest...and i can tell you that Halford CAN'T actually sing in a higher pitch...whenever i try to sing Halford is relatively easy for me,but when it comes to Dio..forget it...he hits the same high notes as Rob..and he hits them with so much power...aaAAahhH Farewell Ronnie you were truly the best R.I.P
i said before that i saw dio upstage dickinson at madison square garden. I have all of his music going back to the first elf album on my zune player. some great stuff to hear if you haven't are his work with Kerry Livegreen on mask of the great deceiver, live for the king,. Also his work with Roger Glover as Homeward Bound, Sitting on A dream, Love is All. RIP 1942-2010
i see how the votes go say anything less than stellar about Dio and get RED K, if u say DIo is the best than get Green K. Okay Dio is better than Pavoratti, Domingo, and even Carusso in his prime. Now i should get like a Plus 10
Dio was able to do whatever he wanted with his voice. How many artists of the voice can?! Dio was always tanking risks, and being succesful most of the time beacause he mastered his voice. Aren't those the quality of a great artist?
I dare to say more, Dio is not only a Metal singer. Which, four our luck, he is. But he is among the greatest artist of the voice. He is the best indeed. Period.
--- are rapsy guys like Jon Oliva, Bobby Blitz Ellsworth, David Wayne(rip), and even Chuck Billy. There are many great metal singers out there. I also salute ozzy for creativity, distinctiveness, and passion
@KubrickLives Interesting thing about Jon Oliva... If you listen to him when he does the simple, just the keyboard and the Mt King... He kind of sounds like Barry Manilow. No, really, he DOES! --- It's a sad day today that we lost our King of Metal, Dio but at least we'll always have him through his music. The man was probably one of the (if not the) greatest voice in all of metal. Lets see how many other metal vocalists are still killing when they're in their late 60s! \m/ RIP RJD \m/
