@mnash3 Reading your e-mails? They are just fishing for key words. They relate those keywords to (what they think) is relevant to you. You talk about dogs in your mail then you will get ads about dog related products. Unless a government is after something nobody cares what you are writing.
The video seem simple to follow but I saw or cannot see what the video indicated. I am logged in and even logged out and tried again but I still do not see what the video showed. ??????????

I had almost given up on You tube for the same reason, but they finally let me use just my You tube account without linking it to anything else...wait, it kinda looks like they did that without my permission. Why did anyone think it improved the video by adding an irritating music track? Why did the people who approved the video allow it to go on-line with the music track? If you are trying to explain to users the basics of how the Dashboard works, do you think the users will understand the words better if music is playing in the backgound?

Thanks to hachakaza for bringing this to my attention. If you set your Google Dashboard to Public, don't post anything you wouldn't want your grandmother to read in the morning... My Grandma was a great moral guide for me.
there are laws against invasion of privacy. if you set permissions for your designated private information and a company uses that information, that is against the law. i think google is trying to make that clear.
the annoying thing is that av just been able to go on my account as a viewer and it still exists but youtube won't let me go on it cos of the stupid google thing. my username is sweetappletits. but apparently the username and password cannot be recognized although av been using them for 3 years. when i send a reset to my email it comes up with 2 other usernames ive never heard of before. google still has my sweetappletits username and password stored but when

You have to look at it from the current cultural trend---I don't think Gmail has anything to do with YouTube to do with Google+, nor should my picture albums have anything to do with Google + (other than if I want to upload a pic to it). Also "mail scanning" happens only when you use web-based mail, it functions the same as any other google ad - it uses information from the page it is on to dsiaply relevant ad. And you can turn that off in mail preferences.

No, I don't use a lot of google products. This is just another attempt by a company trying to corral people into their little world. I'd rather choose what I use where and when and not be forced to 'link my accounts' and all that. It's just like facebook. Very annoying.
Requiring me to use Firefox to get Dashboard destroys my good feeling about Google. I am also unhappy that there is no support when I have a problem. The forum idea sucks. I don't want to wade through thousands of postings to find an answer to a problem. For years I have been putting up with horizontal black lines through the middle of all of the header captions in my gmail pages. Since you don't have any tech support I have had to endure this problem.
I hate how my youtube account is bound to my gmail one. As soon as i log into youtube, I log in that gmail account too. If i log off gmail, it logs me off youtube as well. Anyway to get around this?
@ThatSmoothOperator If you added your Youtube account go your Gmail account sometime before September 2009 then you can unlink them. However, if you signed up for Youtube using your Google account then there is no way to unlink them. You will just have to deal with it.
I like Google Dashboard; it's a useful, easy way to manage all of your personal data Google stores. This is definitely a step in the right direction in terms of internet privacy.

@hvfilms7 You need an actual Google Account, not Youtube account. They are two different accounts, but once you log in to youtube while logged into a Google account, they merge into one. If you want to use these extra Google features, get a Google account, best a Gmail account. If you don't want to do that, then use the existing Youtube controls to manage your account.
@lighangel Its for extra security. if you are truly worried about your privacy, then you would appreciate the extra security to keep people from easily accessing your data. I am not worried about privacy, but this is a feature that is quite important for Dashboard to function properly.

Says nothing about their browsing cookies that traces all your google traffic. It is the 'anonymous' trackers that is the important stuff. This dashboard is too little too late, Gmail needs to buck up and get serious. Quit using *seemingly* anonymous IP to track user data and personalize ads. This is what we should have the option to opt out of.

You say no big deal? Google is of course just one of the many examples. I'm just saying this data can be misused. Maybe government can limit the amount of months our data is being stored. Or should companies like Google regulate themselves?

Google scans your email (if you have Gmail or Googlemail), your search requests, your location, your whole life, only to find usable information to sell advertisments. This information is all stored for a certain time and can be very harmful when leaked. I want to ask all of you. Do you think governments should regulate the data usage of Google? Or what should happen to restore the right of users' privacy?

Finally, the part about monitoring every thing we do or say=Your very paranoid. More people at someones own job can do monitoring much better on a daily basis.

Seriosly guys imho you're getting delusional... They can make their billions of dollars only when majority of users trusts them - otherwise media will happily fuel a mass blocking of their ads, leaving them without any income whatsoever. So thinking that stealing information from your mails about your family, cats and whatnot is worth loosing billions is pure lunacy.

Simple guideline: if you don't want your grandmother to read about you tomorrow morning, don't do the crime & don't post information about yourself on the Internet. Assume that someone can find any data that exists in storage somewhere/ anywhere, and that eventually they will.
Trust is a very rare commodity on the Web. Security happens when you NEVER reveal secrets.
You can change your mind about what is/should be private, but you cannot change public data into private data. Ever.
No do-overs.

Yes, and Google occasionally signs you up for services you don't want, and *surprise* you can't unsubscribe.
Now I use Google's Gmail as a disposable one. I use it then delete the account after a few months, because they can't be trusted.

No, I don't use a lot of google products. This is just another attempt by a company trying to corral people into their little world. I'd rather choose what I use where and when and not be forced to 'link my accounts' and all that. It's just like facebook. Very annoying.

Requiring me to use Firefox to get Dashboard destroys my good feeling about Google. I am also unhappy that there is no support when I have a problem. The forum idea sucks. I don't want to wade through thousands of postings to find an answer to a problem. For years I have been putting up with horizontal black lines through the middle of all of the header captions in my gmail pages. Since you don't have any tech support I have had to endure this problem.

I hate how my youtube account is bound to my gmail one. As soon as i log into youtube, I log in that gmail account too. If i log off gmail, it logs me off youtube as well. Anyway to get around this?

@ThatSmoothOperator If you added your Youtube account go your Gmail account sometime before September 2009 then you can unlink them. However, if you signed up for Youtube using your Google account then there is no way to unlink them. You will just have to deal with it.

I like Google Dashboard; it's a useful, easy way to manage all of your personal data Google stores. This is definitely a step in the right direction in terms of internet privacy.

i have tried logging in with my youtube account name and the e-mail address wich i use for you tube (since that's the only Google product i use)
and it does not log in(incorrect user name or password) but its the same username/password as for my youtube account. What to do?Can anyone at google please tell me.?

@hvfilms7 You need an actual Google Account, not Youtube account. They are two different accounts, but once you log in to youtube while logged into a Google account, they merge into one. If you want to use these extra Google features, get a Google account, best a Gmail account. If you don't want to do that, then use the existing Youtube controls to manage your account.

@lighangel Its for extra security. if you are truly worried about your privacy, then you would appreciate the extra security to keep people from easily accessing your data. I am not worried about privacy, but this is a feature that is quite important for Dashboard to function properly.

1:12 The dashboard shows data associated with your Google account, which means ONLY INFORMATION YOU SHARE WITH US AS A LOGGED-IN USER IS INCLUDED.
Says nothing about their browsing cookies that traces all your google traffic. It is the 'anonymous' trackers that is the important stuff. This dashboard is too little too late, Gmail needs to buck up and get serious. Quit using *seemingly* anonymous IP to track user data and personalize ads. This is what we should have the option to opt out of.
