  • I LOVE my country especially for the delicious food and beautiful people! What I love most about Trinidad is no matter what race you are you cook and eat the same delicious food and that unites us as the beautiful multi-cultural country that we are. Example: my grandparents on one side are venezuelan and chinese, the other side portuguese, black & french creole, imagine the Food that comes out of that--- that's why Trini is so Fabulous!!

  • @zabuca it sounds more like a shitpot since it stinks....

  • SHE is INDIAN and all her food is INDIAN

  • @amarakbarantimony SHE LOOKS LIKE A DOUGLA 2 ME...CUD BE WRONG BUT THEN AGAIN I GET MISTAKEN 4 SRI LANKAN AT TIMES BY IGNORANT PEOPLE

  • @dougiecoolietrini She eh dougla boy, she str8 up Indian, but Trini, trust me...I know she.

  • @realriddim08 lol...i hear you...

  • @amarakbarantimony You need to read a book or something, look back and see if Pelau is an Indian inspired dish.... You sound FOOLISH at no point did say she was Indian, she just said Trini!!!! That's true PRIDE...

  • @zabuca Well FYI, I for one come from Trinidad (south) and I is proud say that I am Indian, yes I is ah Trini and have Trini pride...but just like many of we coolie ppl here, we is pure Indian and carry on we ancestors traditions!

  • @realriddim08 And you should be proud be to say that your of Indian descent, just as I'm proud to say I'm of African, Indian & Spanish descent, but trust me your NO INDIAN, your TRINi...... And many of those so called traditions you think your carrying on are inspired by the West Indian culture in which you were raised....

  • @zabuca Actually u can't say that, many of the traditions we do are still done the same way like back in India, trust me....I done do research and other east Indian ppl (from India) tell me d same story, an ah headin to make ah trip ova dey relll soon.

  • @zabuca i am from trinidad grew up in canada and lived in asia for 20+ years, i have eaten meals with indians from the same region in india that my family originally came from and they cooked very similar dishes to what my mom make. some dishes differeent but many like dahl puri, curry chicken or goat, pulau, red beans on rice are the same. you are a little arrogant telling them they are not indian but some west indian african mixed trini?

  • @zabuca shut that mouf

  • @1q2w3eqq LOL.... First you have to learn to spell "MOUTH" before you tell me to "shut it!" LOL

  • @zabuca shut that mouf

  • @zabuca She's Trinidadian of Eastern Indian descent.

  • @kalimaganeshshivan Of East Indian Descent.... Thank you!

  • @zabuca Yes, on my father's side.

  • @amarakbarantimony You're absolutely right, they are Indian based - however, when our ancestors came to Trinidad, some of the ingredients they used in India were not found on the island, so they improvised and gave it a slightly different touch. Either way, I'm pure Indian from Trinidad and I take a lot of pride in my Indian heritage, most of we Indian Trinis do!

  • Go Trini

  • I want this guy's job! He gets to taste all the good stuff!

  • SOOOO HUNGRYYYY

  • Some questions: Is "roti", "daal", "pliau" Indian or Trinidadian? Just wondering because I've had the same foods in India and Indian restaurants.

  • @jairajparmar Roti is Trinidadian, Indian's have Naan (which is really good lol). IIRC, Daal is Inidian, but there are many different ways to make it. Hope that helped

  • @fresh3456 Actually all of this is Indian food Roti is a major Indian staple. This is because most of Trinidad's population came as indentured servants for India and slaves from Africa and colonists from Europe.

  • @soab444 the way that the curries dishes are made in trinidad would not pass for authentic indian however. they deserve to be called trinidadian for that reason

  • @jairajparmar it is the type of indian food cooked by the indians who moved to trinidad in the late 1800's like my family. we came from northern part of india mostly around the city of varanasi (benares) and speak a language called bhojpuri a dialect of hindi. this is hindustani food, most indian resurants you see in the west are muslim or punjabi a different region of india and mostly influenced by central asian muslims so the dishes are different (india is a big place).

  • @jairajparmar pilau is an indian dish. Pelau is a french creole dish with an indian name.

  • I am cooking pelau tomorow.....looks so interesting!!!

  • @Pennaki I hope you had fun making it and i hope it came out good! That is one of my most favouritest dishes ever! And on the perspective of a cook. Its the easiest thing to cook cuz everything is in one pot so less dishes to wash lol!!

  • Tanty Pam making me hungry just looking at this video. This is my family y'all ;)

  • mouths watering so much i had to go get a pop and chicken. it doesn't compare ;_;

i'm totally going there with my brother tomorrow!

  • @darqjade: you clearly misunderstood me. As a borned-and-raised Trini, I know how to pronounce 'Chardon beni'. Look it up. Of course we say 'shadow benny' (informally), but it is not the same thing as cilantro. Close... but not.

  • @tesubcalle So true, I've heard ppl compare cilantro to chardon beni / shado beni before, but it's definitely not the same thing.. make some chow with both and u'll definitely taste the difference!

Also, I won't compare jumbalaya to pelau - Guy was right they are different meals!

On that note, I'm about to put down a beef 'lau right now! (With coconut milk of course)

  • Big up to trinidad ! =D

  • missin d buss up shut :( comin home soon so das d first ting goin down in meh belly:D

  • This lady is a Trini2DeBone, she real promote our country in just seven minutes, Let him know where she got her ingredients. We need to send her some Shadow Benni. Her food also looks rich...

  • OH LAD!!.. AH HONGRYYYYY!!...lol

  • Where to find chardon beni? I suppose cilantro works, but it's not the same. I wonder if Pam does pastels for Christmas...

  • @tesubcalle it's pronounced shadow beni, and is basically the same thing as cilantro. maybe you can get someone from trinidad to send you some seeds to plant :)

  • @tesubcalle its called culantro in the states, the spanish name for it.

  • Well done!! Will definitely come visit some time!!

  • uhhhhh.... i hate when he calls roti bread...lol

  • I'm just glad she didn't make doubles. I would have started crying from homesickness!

  • isnt this like Indian food , the names resemble many Indian dishes i had before??

  • @orionbassmaster yea.. paratha and roti are originally Indian...

in the late 19th century, a lot of Indians moved or were moved there with the British... so a lot of cultures got infused...

  • The food is awesome, speaking as a Trini... the host on the other hand seems a bit of a dolt.

  • Guy's not lying. That place is awesome. I gotta say I liked the lamb roti better than the goat though. More flavor. They make Guinness ice cream too.

  • this is making me hungry........

  • im a proud trinidadian..pam made us proud :D woi biggin up the trini peepz :D

  • @crazimandy16 no es trinidad and tobago

  • Goat roti, my favourite type

  • half the food this person makes are very popular in India and Bangladesh.

  • Comment removed

  • @sanstar123 Yip the Indian diaspora (along with many others) in Trinidad and Tobago (and the Caribbean) brought their culture along with themselves.

  • seems very similar to Indian cuisine

  • @blahdoot20 yeah that's because a lot of East Indians came to Trinidad to work on the sugar plantations and with them came the food.

  • check out everythingtrini or westindianshop both carry some items on occasion and everythingtrini even has frozen roti that they shipped although im weary of frozen roti. but they have the seasonings.

  • the coconut milk in the cans are not suited to that purpose since i think mostly it is for desserts but here in trini i dont kknow anyone really who uses actual coconuts again (maybe on special occasions) but we have coconut milk powder in the packs and that is the perfect thing for the pelau even if makin in mass production and its not hard at all jus add to water and through in pot so tell her if u want...witout it its more like stewed chicken and rice! and not very authentic trini pelau!

  • @Lyoness03 My grandmother used actual dry coconuts when she wanted coconut milk. I used coconut milk powder because it tasted just as good to me. Unfortunately, I can't find the Trinidadian brand here and every powder I find has lactose in it to which I'm intolerant. So I just have to do without. I can source a few things online, but have you seen the prices? Especially for shipping. My husband recently decided to surprise me by ordering the Chief curry I like, but shipping was almost 20 bucks.

  • ok well i guess ppl make it however they want it thats how food revolutionizes but if u go back to the history of the dish then u will see that it is an african rooted dish and their techniques on coming to the caribbean involved a lot of cocnut milk in many of their dishes as a means to bringing fat and taste from the coconut into their cooking.

  • I use to have a nanny who was from Trinidad, she made great food can't wait to go there this summer.

  • little bit of butter? lol

  • He calling my people food Crazy? lol It's ok.. trini people kinda crazy, anyhow.

  • Only one complaint Pam. No coconut milk in the pelau?

  • I know that most of the Indian immigrants to the Caribbean where of the Bhojpura ethnic group.

  • Her cooking is horrible ... How can you substitute Shadow Benny??? LOL, well I guess the Americans can't tell the difference ...

  • @trinikid2k2 She doesn't have a choice. Culantro (Shadow Benny) is almost non-existent here. Cilantro at least comes close and I use it frequently.

  • There is a strong North Indian influence on the cuisine of Trinidad.

  • @mayena because a lot of the Indians that settled in Trinidad are from Bihar and UP.

  • Is dhal puri the national dish of Trinidad?.

  • yeah my trini food on DDD, but there are some things dat she is not doing trini way,,, we season our meat a couple hours with green season and a true trini pelau has coconut milk in it,,,,,but she represent trinidad any was..

  • @rhea123able Not every Trini adds coconut milk to pelau. My family never did though I liked to personally. But even in Trinidad, there are various ways to make the same meal. I will agree with the green seasoning point and I noticed it too, but at least she puts most of the seasonings in the pot anyway.

It's too bad I didn't know about her place sooner. I'll definitely be going there soon.

  • Yeah my Trini food on DDD, but in trinidad we season our meat with green seasons for a couple hours, she didnt do dat and real trini pelau has coconut milk and ppl u dont eat a roti with forks,,,, better by hand but over all everything thing looks trini.....good job represent

  • This looks so good!!!!

  • @forintrini

I was thinking d same ting, why would you use ah knife and fork for roti? I doh understand dat one. I feeling for a good roti now.

  • I love my country's food, it's wonderful!!!! Go Pam!!!

  • Yay Trinidad!!!!

  • ME REAL HUNGREE BOI! Big ups to TRINI!

  • Wayyzzz...i was feeling hungry jus watching dis boi...what is a jambalaya jedd??...i doubt it as good as pelau :D...big up meh trinis! lolz

  • @triniwriters jambalaya is almost the same as pelau..same mix up concept but different ingredients

  • I live in the caribbean but that food looks so good.Congratulations to Pam on sharing our cuisine to the rest of the world.

    Trinibajan

  • Ent! Knife and fork for roti? Assness!

  • Woy woy!!! One quick thing before I continue... Its was pelau not jambalaya. And the pronunciation is pay-low(like wow).

Trinidasheen damn right... golden ray, not butter and she definitely didn't give away all the secrets.

Pam you have kallaloo on the menu?

GREAT representation of our sweet, sweet islands!

  • @CaptainFranco1 Can everyone keep in mind the lady is in America? Various ingredients need to be substituted because you just can't easily find them here. And I'm in WA too, so I would know what you can find here. Even when I look for the right curry online, it's almost $20. It's ridiculous. I'm at the point where I'm going to have to make my own or pay through my teeth for the good stuff.

  • yay!

i'm guyanese, but i'm very glad that the west indians get some recognition

  • Hey, I know this place! That jambalaya you see towards the end is incredible. Great place.

  • seen seen de leaf is de ting, lol lol , real talk dey, lol lol , some how it dose taste sweeter, lol lol with apple J, ent? lol lol
