Why didn't you buy the tarantula from Paul Becker or KentheBugGuy, tarantulas should NEVER be carried in an box all on its own with nothing to stop it from bouncing around and killing it, Tarantulas may look hard and sturdy but a fall of a few inches or damaging of its abdomen can kill them.
@tarantulaguy1998 cause like the said they got it from the pet store and are probably not into T collecting like me or you and pets stores dont even take care of there Ts right some time lable then with the wrong names... seen a brazilian white knee label on a g. rosea.. they probably seen it at the pet store and bought it and dont know of mass breeders like KentheBugGuy or Paul Becker... dont always make it seem like you know it all kid
@efixeated Even I know somethings. Its best to have a lid with holes and not mesh, tarantulas can shread through wire mesh in as little as a few hours!
@tarantulaguy1998 Then riddle me this why do theY still have a mesh top.There not supposed to climb on the glass or to the top cause they can fall and seriously hurt themselves. If you make the tank enough resemblance or mimic of the Ts native habitat it shouldnt climb. Arboreal Ts are most known for this Houdini acted, not so much as a Brachypelma Smithi witch are burrowers and lazy, not known to make a brake for it. Not to be mean but next time look harder in you TKG to give facts out. :D
I just got one 5 days ago, I had little substrate too and then the next day (2nd day) I learned they love to have a burrowed home ready for safety. So I added more. She's my first and a Mexican red knee:)
I hope to not be scared to hold her in my palm after a few weeks cause I will like to hold her...any safe ways to doing so as a beginner? Just so if anything goes up or I wanna show her off to a friend I will be able to handle her safely and not to where she's too nervous.
I would add a lot more substrate in there if I were you. B.smithi are stocky built species so they prone to abdomen rupturing if they climb and fall from a cage that's too tall.

you have to gentley tap the ass end of the tarantula, while trying to keep the stress off of the tarantula
