I remember this tour... amazing. Black Sails was a masterpiece. But people grow up, and I honestly wouldn't want to see them playing the same music ten years later.

I would! Look at a band like Sick Of It All - amazing live show and as awesome as ever. And they're veterans! AFI changed everything and lost their soul and energy in the process. After Black Sails, they chose a bad direction. Too slow and over-dramatic.

Yeah exactly. People always say they just "evolved" but that's bullshit. There was definitely a conscious decision to change and that's why Mark left. He saw no reason to change their style or image and he was right. They had something really unique with SYMAOYE.

They were fun, aggressive and uncompromising - none of which can be said about them now.

@miseryXchord Yes Misery, but at the same time, to just quit everything you did before and just start fresh and not do ANYTHING for your fans who got you where you are right now? there has to be a middle ground. If the fans are there but the band does not reciprocate then of course the fans are gonna feel let down. It's not that the band owes them so they must cater to every fan's needs. It's a GRATITUDE towards your fans.

Its was a great era for the band, but everything your saying is opinion only. Davey's voice has gotten stronger, the guitar parts are more creative and the band has changed. Sure, its different, and its not a question of which is better, just different and which you prefer. I take new AFI seriously and I love it, just like I love the old stuff.
