Every 26000 years thats interesting, the Mayan long count calender is 5126 years per cycle ,supposedly when creation happened. Now the mayans 5th cycle started in 3114 BC ends in 2012. So now 5126 days x 5 = 25,630 years ? So the idea that the long count restarting makes sense for the first 4 cycles. I dont know about everyone else but a cataclysm every 26000 years makes more sense than every 5200 or 3600 years. Scholars also believe the long count calender was handed down to the mayans.

I don't believe that a meteor, comet or any other object will end the world. I am also not denying that they hit us & can cause damage.

but I also support the fact that the world is going crazy. I mean u are right about these occurrences happening before. But the rate now is much higher.

Its more likely to hit a fly with a handgung from a distance of 16000 miles than for an asteroid to hit earth. People seem to ignore the size of the space of our solar system. In the last 15 years there have had half a dozen "near misses" at around 0.3 astronomical units (more than 100fold earth-moon distance). A real danger would be an orbit crossing at exactly 0 (zero) AUs and with at least a few kilotonnes of mass. Not a dwarf-comet like C/2010 X1 about 0.25 AU away. People are paranoid.

I recently saw an astronomy video of two galaxies colliding and it made me wonder. I am a novice. I just assumed that our galaxy of planets were at a fixed space in the solar system until now.
