The butterfly version is C3 from MGS3. In that game, Snake took the C3 and made it in the form of a butterfly for a bit before planting.

If its not a butterfly, its C4.

@metaXzero As Pinky said, C3 is the predecessor for C4, and in Metal Gear Solid 3 Big Boss (Codenamed Naked Snake) made a butterfly shape out of the malleable clay like C3, in Smash Bros. the Snake is more based off of "Solid Snake", one of the 3 clones of Big Boss. So the butterfly shape may be a reference to MGS3, it is C4, and not C3.

Actually, they just called him "Snake" so you can choose whether you are playing as Solid-Snake, or Big-Boss. Some of the camo's from MGS3 are in brawl, but the main suit in brawl is Solid-Snake's sneaking suit.
