the ashigaru got a bit less damage, the Japan Isolation Consulate damage bonus was halved and the Toshogu Shrine resource bonus was also halved.

unless i've been upgrading my army all wrong (would be surprising because i like using infantry), it isn't possible to have 40 damage in colonial with ashigaru.

One nation that really suprised me when I saw how strong it really was, Portugese. Why? Because after Revolution! in Industrial Age, I trained 150 Colonial Militia quickly (thanks to my town centers) and earned victory 25-30 mins total.

Sure. Asian Dynasties is only an expansion pack. You need full Age of Empires 3.

You just need Age of Empires 3 to be able to play Asian Dynasties. BUT if you install Asian Dynasties after you've installed the Warchiefs expansion. You'll be able to play all in one.

Japanese is the strongest amongst all AOE3 countries. With a high level (like 45) Japan, 10 Samurais with all upgrades and benefit shipments do the job in any difficulty.

With Warchiefs expansion only, the strongest is Sioux (or whatever) I build up economy very fast then time to create an army.

For no expansion AOE3 I think the strongest is the Ottoman. They've got the best military units in any type.

i have never played with japan but i have to say that the french are amazing in AOE3. they take a little while around the first couple ages but when they are all aged up they are way overpowered. possibility of 3 forts 2 factories (which is normal) and their settlers are strong and fast
