Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Sean Taylor, and Troy Polamalu are the top safties. I'm a Ravens fan so Reed is of course my favorite out of the list. Dawkins has a very strong safety blitz, but Reed is a way better ball hawk and can utilize an offense's weekness, while Dawkins can blitz harder with decent coverage. Reed is in no way overrated. Each safety has their different strengths and weaknesses. Just show respect to the players and respect to the games.

Reed is the best overall safety in the league. He is HIGHLY verstile. A safety is not intended to go in for sacks. The only time a safety is to get a sack is if the QB starts to run to the outside. He is a harsh hitter, consistant hitter, and just rarely misses his tackles. He has a set of the best hands for a safety and can yank down any pass if he isn't going for the early tackle. Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Sean Taylor, and Troy Polamalu are the top safties. I'm a Ravens fan so Reed is of course my favorite out of the list. Dawkins has a very strong safety blitz, but Reed is a way better ball hawk and can utilize an offense's weekness, while Dawkins can blitz harder with decent coverage. Reed is in no way overrated. Each safety has their different strengths and weaknesses. Just show respect to the players and respect to the games.

did you see what Ed reed did in Miami University and for the Baltimore ravens every time he touches the ball its either going for 6 or for a big gain. it doesn't matter if he plays zone or man he's a big playmaker. Dijon Landry is not as good as Ed reed. his versitility is what kills people. he can make you miss on a juke, spin, or cut move or he'll just run you over. and your telling me that he's not good when he broke the record for longest interception return 107 yards agaisnt cleveland.

7. u cant expect someone to be PERFECT in the NFL. its like saying stop the quarterback from touching the ball. its alright if reed gets beat deep sometimes, special by great receivers like smith and t.j.
8. u cant find someone as fast/quick, smart, hard hitting as ed reed. sure roy williams and sean taylor are hard hitters, but they are not as fast and smart as ed reed...and they actually dont blitz much either.

1. ravens keep ed reed back and blitz their great linebackers.
2. for his size he can hit pretty damn hard.
3. when he gets the ball, he makes plays.
4. after a couple of years offense try to throw away from him, giving landry more chances (not taking anything away from him)
5. ravens great defense helps him yes....reed's great play making ability helps ravens.

Watch highlights of the Cincy game earlier this season, watch him take a missed field goal back, and then watch him take a punt back 60 yards, and tell me he's not versatile again. This guy could probably play offense, very elusive. When he gets the ball, whether interception or punt return, he can make something happen.

i would take adrian wilson or bob sanders over ed reed any day. this dudes right in a way, but on that D he is a standout which makes him good right there. Hope deserved the probowl last year but its a popularity ontest now so w/e. reed is sick though

Bob Sanders is a great safety. he is the differencemaker that got the colts the bowl. I think,that because of age dawkins is not a top three safety anymore. Sanders, polamalu and reed are on top. The thing about reed is not versatile is just not right. He is doing what is he asked to do. when he lines up around the line of scrimage he is great, in the backfield he is outstanding. He has shown to me that he can do everything, and getting burnt by smith on one play can happen.

let me clear up what i was trying to convey, he has two missed field goals returned for TDs one of which is the second longest in NFL history obviously multiple coverage picks the ravens dont blitz reed because of the versatility of the linebackers and by the way reed now has a punt returned for a td added to his stats. Reed is the best overall safety in the league. He is HIGHLY verstile. A safety is not intended to go in for sacks. The only time a safety is to get a sack is if the QB starts to run to the outside. He is a harsh hitter, consistant hitter, and just rarely misses his tackles. He has a set of the best hands for a safety and can yank down any pass if he isn't going for the early tackle. I see your points, just highly disagree.
