The planes used for the movie where F-5E/F Tiger IIs. They were actual USN F-5s from the Top Gun School painted black and given North Korean Roundels (some of the F-5s were left black for a short period.)
The first Top Gun aggressor was the F-8 Crusader. Then Navy used the A-4 (throughout) T-38 (on loan from the USAF in the 70s), F-21 (Israeli Kfir), F-5, F-16, F-18, F-14, and now back to the F-16, F-18, and F-5 at the NSAWC Nas Fallon (formerly Top Gun at Nas now MCAS Miramar) But then again...
No the base remained active. The only major Naval Air Station shut down during that period as NAS Cecil Field Florida. TOP GUN (the school) shut down and was merged with other Warfare Schools over at NAS Fallon Nevada. All of the F-14 squadrons were moved to the East Coast (NAS Oceana) with two reserve squadrons left in Texas, and the F-14 test and evaluation squadrons being left at the various Naval Test centers in California.
NAS Miramar is now Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
the mig-28 kinda lookslike a rafale but its definitely nof an f-5 cause an f-5 wings is a lot bigger than the mig-28 its also not an f-18 cause an f-18 has two overhead wings and can carry way more missiles than the mig its a real mig mig-28 DOES exist
Lol, you guys really love screwing with the heads of unaware "civies" don't you. Old simple me caught on when I started looking at the replies in the thread.
they didn't use MiGs because look at when the film was made (1986), it was right in the middle of the cold war so they couldn't just ask if they could borrow some MiG 29s off the Russian air force which meant they had to use F5s (not F18s in response to venk007)
I believe the MiG-28 was the Russian's copy of the USAF's F-5... so it's pretty much the same thing. I would guess that for the movie, they did use F-5's... but the MiG-28 DOES exist.
Only a few

Are there any NEW good video game based on dogfights and aviating?
MindControleHammer 2 years ago
HAWX is pretty fun. It's not ALL dogfighting, but it has enough airstriking and dogfighting to be interesting for a while.
I'm on my 4th playthrough.
Skaflar 2 years ago
Thanks, HAWX IS really a great game :) ty so much
MindControleHammer 2 years ago
No Problem. I love the game.
Skaflar 2 years ago
yeah, the only problem is that there's only 19 missions.
MindControleHammer 2 years ago
Yeah. I think that's probably why they added in all those challenges to complete. That's what I've been working on.
Skaflar 2 years ago
yeah, some of them are pretty hard..
What level are you?
MindControleHammer 2 years ago

The MiG-28 is either a F-5E Tiger or a T-38 Talon with misslies.

They aren't official jets for the CCCP. They are ficticious. In this, the MIG-28s were really F-5s.

Great Music from a great movie.

if you look closely, the "MIGs" are actually F-18s
the same plane used by the Blue Angels
(except they use the F-18d i think)

MiG-28s don't exist, all MiG models are followed by odd numbers, so the real airplane have been MiG-27 or MiG-29
