LOVE your hair and your videos. Very inspiring b/c my hair type is just like yours. I'm two and a half years into my journey and look forward to getting where you are! Thx for keeping me inspired and motivated!!! :)
I am taking the plunge. I have had a relaxer now for almost 20 years. I just took down my kinky twist extensions and almost passed out with the remnants of hair in a frazzled unshaped mess.
I have watched many of your tutorials and my 11 and 12 year old girls will probably never perm because of words you have instilled to them.
Thank you and keep me lifted as I start down the road too healthy natural hair.
Just want to say THANK YOU SOO MUCH Rustic beauty. You have been my inspiration from day one. Also when i found out u were Nigerian i was woooaah, even more excited. My journey to natural healthy long hair is going pretty good. its so exciting
I am surprised at your straight hair too! But I completely understand wanting to try something different sometime and I'll probably will do it one day too one day down the line. Were you able to get your curl pattern back ok? I haven't put much heat in my hair since I went natural in April 2010 ( and YES you were the main contributer to me making this decision) so I don't know what will happen if I ever straighten my hair. Good luck RB, I think you are a phenomenal role model and person!!
I'm so happy to see you, I missed your videos. I am really shocked that you are getting your hair flat ironed! I stayed away from heat for so long because of your videos. My husband is crazy and he doesn't like the natural look, so I started flat ironing. I am very careful and protective of my hair. I contribute my growth to youtubers like you. Thank you!
I want you to know I have subscribed to your channel for years - I love your videos. I was surprised to see your hair (1) straightened and (2) so LONG omg. I have a new co-worker with 4b hair and it's just beautiful. I wanted to know, in this economy and job situation, was straightening your hair a concession making the job interview a little easier or was it just for the holidays. I might consider flat ironing my hair in order to "go along to get along" what are your thoughts?
Wow your hair is so lovely and I like your dress or top. Did you get layers and is that why your hair is different lengths; or is it from trimming cause I see you have about waist length and bra strap length and it would be longer if it was flat ironed. I've been natural 4 years and I had to cut out so many single strand knots in 2009 because that's when I really started trying to take care of it and lost about 1/12 years so that's 6-10 inchs. It's been much better now though. Happy New Year :)
Wow, have not been on your channel in months..surprised to see you straightened. I'm totally natural for 18 months with a lot of growth. I'm sometimes curious about the straightened length but so afraid of destroying my kinks; please do a video of your natural hair after your flat ironed look.
Thank you so much for making this video Miss Rustic. I just got my hair flat ironed for the first time yesterday, after rocking my natural afro and afro puffs for a year and a half. I am still a little nervous about it. I don't think I'll maintain it because I love my natural curls, but your tips are so informative, and your spirit is so helpful and reassuring. Thank you, again.
Girl your hair has mad length!! I don't know how you handle all of it cause I'm strugglin' wit my twa!!!! I mean strugglin! But I'll guess it'll get easier, right?
I appreciate you sharing your hair regimen/tips which was very helpful to me as a natural sista...you have given me as well as other women, with type 4a/4b or 4c hope...you're such an inspiration to watch...by the way what type of rollers are you using and where did you purchase it from?
Hi, I would like to know, your hair is it even all throughout your head? How do you make sure that it's all even since it doesn't seem like you cut your hair.
I've heard you talk about single strand knotting before but I'm wondering if you have dealt with the issue of dry, brittle and bushy ends? I have been natural (4a/b) for over a year and a half and I don't get knots but my ends are always rough. I'm at a loss because I moisturize everyday and don't use heat. It's been recommended that I heat train to avoid this issue but I'm looking for a better suggestion. So could you share your experience or offer any advice?
Your hair is beautiful..Have you washed it yet? I kind of feel like auntkekebaby..cause when I did my hair like that..it stayed straight all of it with the exception of the root..so seeing your hair brings back memories...I hope it all turned out well for you.. :)
So glad to see u make a vid:):):):) I can totally relate to your struggle....I graduated college back in may and I just found a job that I actually think I will enjoy last month. Keep your spirits up...something will come through soon:D
Your hair looks absolutely fabulous. I'm sure it will be fine once you deep condition it when going back curley. Your hair has looked very strong to me. It's nice to change it up a bit every now and then. ; )
Glad to you see back. You are an inspiration to me. My hair is natural and for the first 2 yrs I didn't know what to do with it. Year 3 I got a texturizer, big mistake. then I discovered you and afew others on yt. My hair is bsl, almost there or pass it, I haven't flat ironed my hair in over a year. I am very tender headed now and I refuse to let a salon touch it....lol. Your hair looks great.
I love your hair!!! Happy you decided to just blow-out instead of getting a permed! I love you hair & I love a good blow-out every now and then cuz my hair is never as limp as it was when I had a perm.
@shsu97 I don't think that's anything to apologize for. It's your hair. Being natural isn't for everyone anyway. Just make sure you keep up healthy hair practices so you retain your hair. =]
I doubt you will have heat damage because you dont flat iron your hair frequently, I was flat ironing my hair once a month for about 2 years before I learned about these beautiful natural hair styles (I have been natural for almost 3 years) and I have very little heat damage just a couple of strands of hair wont revert back curly. I use a teflon remington flat iron and it is the only flat iron I've ever bought that would get my hair completely straight and last 3-4 weeks (hair type 3c).
I was wondering, do the loop and locks curlers dry out your ends/hair? They look like foam. Is there anything extra you do in prep for them if they do?
this is why I don't like beauty salons. They're inefficient and take too long to service their customers. I've heard caucasian women do not have this problem in salons that service them. I recall the surprise when this fact was discussed on Oprah years ago. I know it depend on the service being done on your hair. But a wash, conditioner flat iron and curl should not take longer than 1 1/2 hrs at most. I've never had long hair and being in the shop for 3 was typical.
your hair is SOOO beautiful!!! I just hope you didnt get heat damage because i did using the cortex flat irons. They are very cheap. You can get it at T.J.MAXX. Had to switch to sedu flat irons. it is very gentle on my hair.
Hey Rustic :) It's so nice to see you back :) A lot of ppl make so many assumptions. I'm referring to ppl basing their hair growth on yours. Huh? I'm glad you answered that. So many ppl are yearning for long hair that they ASSUME everybody wants it too. Recently, some1 who I really like, stated that something is wrong if you've been a natural for 6 yrs and you only have a certain amount of growth. And then she compared her growth with theirs. It makes no sense b/c ppl like me cut.....
@moniquewhit I have two videos showing my twa-I think it my 'my more relaxed hair video'...the first few years I just let it be and then I started putting it into puffs and maybe by year 3 two strand twists...
The hair is GORGEOUS girl! love it! it is soo sad that most salons don't know anything about natural hair and how to care for it (i.e., how to detangle from end to root, not from root to end) which is sooo sad again. I think they look at our hair and think they have to REALLY STRAIGHTEN our hair as if we've been cursed with tangles and knots. What in the world?
another great vid...the timing is another reason i am not interested in goin to the salon...and the ones that do wanna charge an arm and a leg....but it is beautiful none the less....let me/us know how long it kept b4 you went back to ur curls please...
@heavenwardbound Sort of. I just got of the shower that is why my face looks that way. Give it a few more hours and you wouldn't have said anything, lol. Anyways, my face got bad again so I had to get serious with my regimen again. So was with cleanser, toner, gentle scrub, and then aveeno product with sunscreen. At night cleanser, toner, and then organic aloe vera--in the morning skin is baby soft. Also, half way through the day if my face gets too oily I will use my toner to control the oil.
@RusticBeauty Thank you so much for your response! I just started using aloe vera too! And I did buy the alba toner a while back. It is amazing how much dirt is still on my face after I wash it! Thanks again!!
What has been the reaction when you go outside? Do people ask if your hair is fake? Do other people tell you that you look better or worse with straight hair? Just curious because I know a lot of girls get...interesting encounters when they step outside straight after years of being natural.
RB, u are so humble and so giving. No matter how popular, I have yet to discover a youtuber who can match your grace. As usual, thanx so much for sharing.
IF YOU LIVE IN CHICAGO go to the Egyptians they straighten hair amazing no grease takes about an hour to wash, straighten and style. Plus it lasts like a full week.
1130-5 WOW!!! see reason #3045 why i dont want to go to a beauty shop to get my hair done... LOL.. and she was rough... I would have left.. Im way tender headed....
Hey girl! Miss you much...I'm in the same boat...I graduated this past spring and is job hunting, but mostly chilling....I'm kind of catching up on all the tv that I didn't watch while in college lol. Anywayz, your hair looks amazing...but I do miss your jumbo twists :)
did you go to a natural hari salon? and i have 4b hair too, and my hair does not stay straight!! its soo frustrating when i straighten it cuz it takes hours but only lasts a day :(
@chachachick02 no, I didn't go to a natural hair salon. I think our hair doesen't stay straight cuz of hair products and flat iron used. Find those two products that work on your hair and you will have silky straight hair.
@anewmeePassion well they made comments like you have pretty hair/thick/ alot of hair. But another hairdresser teased my hair dresser cuz she knew it would be a lot of work. One of the hair dresser had been natural for three years and keep her hair flat ironed..but she didn't do my hair.
@ANTActress I don't really worry about growing it any longer, I just dont want it to break off. So it would be interesting to get it longer, but I am happy where I am :)
although i didn't ask the questions, this video was very helpful because i am thinking about getting my hair straightened next may. i don't like going to the salon but because of you and your tips i think i might give a try.
Wow ur hair has grown almost to your butt!!! So pretty!

How did you care for and maintain you hair during your TWA stages. (hopefully you can remember that far back, lol)
I BC'd almost a year ago but i really didn't take care of it, so I basically had to do another BC and I want the this time to be the LAST time, lol.
My hair is very similar to yours 4b; I have major shrinkage and tons of knots.

I was scared when I saw this video. I hope you don't have to do the emergency wash and steam again. (to prevent the loss of your curl)

IF YOU LIVE IN CHICAGO go to the Egyptians they straighten hair amazing no grease takes about an hour to wash, straighten and style. Plus it lasts like a full week.
Not sure if they're everywhere but look them up.

do you work out with your hair like that? And if you do how u prevent it from sweating out?
tatomkili 1 year ago
@tatomkili Well it depends where and what you are doing. If you are at home say on the treadmill have a fan facing you to keep you cool and dry.

I have a Cortex flat iron that I purchased at TJMaxx for about $30. It's a really nice flat iron at a great price.

did you go to a natural hari salon? and i have 4b hair too, and my hair does not stay straight!! its soo frustrating when i straighten it cuz it takes hours but only lasts a day :(
chachachick02 1 year ago
@chachachick02 no, I didn't go to a natural hair salon. I think our hair doesen't stay straight cuz of hair products and flat iron used. Find those two products that work on your hair and you will have silky straight hair.

@RusticBeauty were they(hair dressers) surprised/excited to see a natural black woman with such long hair?
anewmeePassion 1 year ago
@anewmeePassion well they made comments like you have pretty hair/thick/ alot of hair. But another hairdresser teased my hair dresser cuz she knew it would be a lot of work. One of the hair dresser had been natural for three years and keep her hair flat ironed..but she didn't do my hair.
RusticBeauty 1 year ago
love it! have you reached your ultimate goal length or do you want to grow your hair out more so it's longer?!? just curious...
ANTActress 1 year ago
@ANTActress I don't really worry about growing it any longer, I just dont want it to break off. So it would be interesting to get it longer, but I am happy where I am :)

@TheNaturalBeauty80 As a child my hair was full, and then relaxers came and always had thinning short hair.
