chappers, i love you and am a longtime fan, but you seem a little in over ur head on this one, i would call probably two of those bands just death metal and one or none doom :/

i don't think he named a single death metal or domm metal band. im stupid and i know that lamb of god and chimaira are groove metal and that slayer is thrash metal and that napalm death is more deathgrind, and meshuggah is djent etc. these chords sound more like jazz chords to me.

@DontRespondImStupid Lamb of God and Chimaira are groovy metal bands. Slayer is thrash metal, but thrash metal and death similar have very similar and overlapping lineages. Djent is just a genre for a specific type of cover band. Meshuggah are heavily within the death metal genre. They're also pretty groovy in a strange way.

I think the "djent is just a genre for a specific type of cover band" is a joke mate, about how everyone copies meshuggah/periphery.

@ibaho124 I think they've said that they're Progressive Metal, and to be honest, that seems like the most accurate descriptor. Djent is sorta like Grunge, in that people who love the genre hate the term.

@austinthefreak i was in a band and we played in drop-a, it was a little too muddy sounding on a 6 string because the pickups wearn't meant to pick up notes that low. you also would most likely have to get strings with a low a being at least a 58 gauge. i would only use it if you have a 6 string set up perfectly for it or if you have a 7 string. but i agree if you have the right setup, it sounds amazing

@brux559 Yeah I understand. I only use drop-A with my Ibanez Gio... Idk how but for some reason it sounds normal on that guitar without a special setup. With my other guitars I use drop B or standard tuning.

It's not a bad lesson. I downloaded it but.. He never goes into what tuning he's using. He plays a barre chord on the fifth fret and it's definitely not standard or even drop D tuning. Must be Drop C but he never mentions that.

@kurtt1129 He's raising the bridge at one end whilst the guitar is feedbacking. This raises the pitch of the strings closest to that side of the bridge creating a slight dissonance (The clashing of the pitches you can hear).
