  • primary qualities, at least in merleau-ponty's framework, are centripetally constructed. secondary qualities are centrifugally projected. i think this shows that locke's contention that primary qualities are part of some external, objective world is an intellectual construction that becomes tenable only after reflection and deliberation. in our immediate phenomenological experience, though, there is no distinction to be made between what is objective and what is subjective.

  • to see it as both illusion and reality at the same time would be a more correct view.

    To see it only as an illusion would lead to nihilism.

    To see it as the only reality would lead to bondage, suffering and happiness etc.

  • I agree, the correct view would be to make no distinction between reality and appearance to begin with.

  • yeah, well, then the best idea is to not do philosophy at all.
