bad pronunciation in all languages is one of my pet peeves so I hope this little learning tip will help anyone who is having trouble with pronunciation.
Yeah, I knew that but it was already mentioned in the Eleven Colors vid that this is a response to so I thought it wasn't really necessary for me to say it again.
I blame romaji. Anyone trying to teach Japanese, (or Chinese/Korean come to that) with the Roman alphabet should be taken out and shot. Rushed to hospital, healed, and then shot again. :o)
Thats some hard core punishement for the use of Romanji. I must agree (not to the multiple shootings) that learning the language with a romanised text is a bad idea.I have a class mate that initially started learning using romanji and her accent is horrid. Here grammar and memory for vocab is exceptional, probable one of the best in the class but yeah, Japanese in an Australian accent is just weird.
Poor old Bill Nighy is a fine example of the truly hideous gaijin accent. About 1:30 in. I still can't watch that without shuddering. :o)

It's not as if Japanese is that difficult to pronounce, in a reasonable way. Now Korean, oh boy, *that's* a tricky one to speak. Just as well hangul is so simple compared to Japanese!
I can't compare Korean to Japanese because I only new a few words in Korean. I think Mandarin was harder for me. I know more Japanese than I do Mandarin now in a much shorter time frame. And because my class focused so much on the reading of hanzi I kind of found I could read and write the language but couldn't speak it after the fist year. And I was living with a Beijing native at the time so I had heaps of opportunities to practice speaking but still it didn't sink in.

Listening to Touch Typist now, very cool sound, really like Nostalgia is a Lake. WInterpark sounds nicely polished & versatile...yeah good bands. No surprise for me though. Melbourne has nurtured some great bands. But then again, I was born in Brighton Hospital over there, so I could be a little biased lol ; )
This video is just dripping with awesome. It's trippy yet cool to see something explained which I take for granted to the extent that I can't explain it properly anymore.
"dripping with awesome", thats got to be the most visual compliment there ever was. Kind of disturbing in a good way (ego....inflatting). haha.

Nostalgia is a Lake is my favorite Touch Typist song. I was listening to it over and over again in the car on my way to work when I got the CD.
