Incidentally, I also remembered rumors [back in the eighties of course] that Kurt Russell was going to play Boba Fett in the original Star Wars trilogy. Was it just a rumor? He did if you remember audition for Star Wars back in1976 for the role of Han Solo.
Kurt Russell was impressive as Elvis, I remember the movie well. But I thought Bruce Campbell's impersonation of Elvis was really good -you almost believed he was Elvis ...Well I did anyway ... Anyone for a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich?
uh-huh I watch TCM all the time I like it a whole lot, I like the B&W uh pictures and they remind me of a time I really knew. I dont know why that is but I prefer it over other cable stations. Allright bye,bye
@Yodasboychild You're comparing apples to oranges. Bruce Campbell couldn't pull off a realistic portrayal of Elvis (like Kurt was able to in John Carpenter's movie)
@Craigmin I said "came in close" - quite obviously they're worlds apart - particularly in the type of films we are talking about, however in my mind Russell's portrayal of Elvis was flawed. Some of the mannerisms he adopted while playing Elvis did not quite ring true to the real article; ie. the real Elvis. And, obviously you will retalliate with an equally scathing (if not more so) criticism of Campbells performance - tho' you must understand I do not believe his performance is perfect either.
Elvis hated making many of his films, especially in the '60's, even though for a time he was the highest-paid actor in Hollywood. There's no denying that he unwittingly created his own film genre. Like them or not, an Elvis Presley (integrated) musical is one-of-a-kind.
Today, his films should be looked upon as a tonic in troubled times. Not a more innocent time, but a simpler time.
30 films in a little more than a decade? Wow! What a legacy.
Yeah, it's a damn shame that the King's movies did make a caricature out of him (although some of them are pretty damn entertaining). We can place the blame on Col. Parker for ruining Elvis's image just so they could rake in the bucks, rather than focusing more on the man's music!
When someone calls on the phone I'll say "I''m watching a movie", but when I'm watching Elvis it's "I'm watching an Elvis movie". Is there any other actor we talk about that way, except for maybe John Wayne?
Yeah, was it "Stay Away Joe," where he sings to a Donkey? But a lot of them (specifically King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Viva Las Vegas) are good, and even some of the badder ones are still fun to watch!
"(He was) the singer of the twentieth century."
- Kurt Russell; 2:36 - 2:42.
